What you'll do

After a scenic 1-hour drive down south, we will head off from Shimoni's new floating jetty in one of the beautiful dhows, traditional Omani sailing boats, which are supported by an outboard engine. We will sail the Indian Ocean, circumnavigating my home Wasini Island. To her south lies Kenya's most beautiful protected reef area - Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park - with its resident pods of bottelnose and indo-pacific humpback dolphins. There we will spend ca. 3.5 hrs visiting one of the three uninhabited islands, undertaking several snorkeling tours along the healthy coral reef with its myriads of inhabitants, search for dolphins and sea turtles, all with intermittent breaks, relaxing time, and fruit and Swahili snacks to keep us going. Our return sail to the northern shores of Wasini Island will take approx. 1.5 hrs along mangrove forests and foraging coastal birds. At ca. 2.30pm, we will have a delicious Swahili seafood lunch at one of Wasini's sea-side restaurants. The day tour will end by 5.30pm at your holiday accommodation in Diani Beach.

Being born and raised on Wasini Island, l have a special love affair with our traditional sailing dhows and the underwater world. Since my teen days, I have spent many hours of my free time, or later in my professional life, in our traditional boats & with a snorkeling mask on my head. I know our waters, and especially Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park like the back of my hands. I have been trained over several months in rescue and life saving at sea. One of my professional tasks is working as a snorkeling guide with an association of local boat operators called Wasini's Blue Whale Boat Operators. They have been operating for over 8 years, are the No. 1 boat operators in the area, and won for 2 consecutive years a Certificate of Excellence - we are going to sail with the best boats and crews!

Where you'll be

After a scenic 1-hour ride from Diani to the port of Shimoni, we will sail for ca. 1.5hrs to Kisite's Coral Reef, first along Wasini Island's wild coast before heading offshore. We might be lucky and already spot one of the many pods of dolphins here. Once at the coral reef, we can make several snorkeling outings & explore the Park in peace. After ca. 3.5 hrs, we will head to our island restaurant. The tour ends ca. 5.30pm at your Diani lodging.

A very nice family day outing. Faisal was both patient and kind to each individual. The snorkeling was fun and he went out of his way to help us get to see the things we wanted to see. Amina kindly arranged for us a gluten free lunch.
