What you'll do
Greetings! Join me on a Campus Tree tour to check out some of the University of Oregon's most iconic trees. Learn the basics in plant identification and learn why getting to know trees is so important! We will walk for about two hours, rain or shine. If it is particularly stormy or a torrential downpour, we can reschedule. This walk is best for Fall or Spring but we can also learn to identify trees by silhouettes's and twigs alone in the winter, plus campus is full of beautiful evergreens to check out as well. We will walk rain or shine.
I have been teaching a class at the University of Oregon, in the Landscape Architecture Department for the last 6 years. My class focuses on Plant identification and Understanding Landscapes. I received my Masters in Landscape Architecture in 2006 and worked as a Landscape Designer for many years at a local firm, before choosing to be home with my kids for some time. I began teaching at the UO in 2013 and absolutely adore teaching people to love plants and trees as much as I do. I am also a practitioner of Mindfulness and Nature Awareness. My mission is to inspire mindful living and connection to a sense of place, by weaving together the threads of nature and culture, through storytelling, coursework and family travel, both at home and abroad
Where you'll be
We will meet just outside the front entrance to the Jordan Schitzer Museum of Art on the University of Oregon Campus. We will wander the University of Oregon Campus to visit the trees and I will share with you basic plant identification traits and any relevant history or facts about the tree.
