What you'll do

Upon your arrival to Tesoro Mio (Treasure of Mine) Truffle Ranch we will welcome you with a complimentary glass of bubbles from one of our local Sierra Nevada Wineries.
You will then meet our amazing Truffle dogs - the ancient breed of Lagotto Romagnolo or Italian Truffle Dogs. The Truffle Huntress Mille Fiore (Million Flowers) and her hunting partner Panettone (Italian Christmas Cake) aka Tone.
As we gear up the dogs for the hunt we will share some tips on training and motivating truffle dogs. The team will be very enthusiastic and excited as we head out to the truffiere.
We will start off the hunt by hiking through the hazelnut grove. During our search for the elusive black truffle we will share with you the history of truffle cultivation, the use of pigs and now dogs for harvesting and the processes involved in truffle farming.
You will watch the dogs nose to the ground, as they sniff for the ripe truffle hidden under the ground. Upon discovering a truffle the dogs will paw at the ground and begin digging for our culinary prize. You will have the opportunity to sniff the soil for the mouthwatering smell of the unearthed truffle.
We will then move to the oak grove to search for more truffles before heading back to the covered patio where we will taste delicious black truffle hors d'oeuvres. Our goal is to make Tesoro Mio Truffle Ranch a Treasure of Yours!

Tesoro Mio Truffle Ranch has provided me the opportunity to share with you my love of dogs, food, wine and the great outdoors.
The ranch is one of only a few Truffle producers in the state of California. I began my love of foraging over 25 years ago and with lots of study and hard work (farming) have successfully harvested the cultivated winter Black Périgord Truffle aka the “Black Diamond” of the kitchen.
Located in the beautiful Sierra Foothills where there is an abundance of award winning wines and agricultural products.
I begin this journey nearly a decade ago training Lagotto Romagnolo, Italian Truffle Dogs to hunt the elusive truffles of the Pacific Northwest. The Truffle Huntress, Mila Fiore was a natural finding her first truffle at 12 weeks old. A year later she was professionally surveying other orchards across the state.

What a unique and memorable experience!! We loved watching Mila, the truffle-hunting dog, at work. Once she got her “Truffle Huntress” working jacket on, she was all business. She was on a mission to find truffles and we got to enjoy the journey with her. (She found several small truffles.) The location, truffle snacks, wine, and hospitality were all fantastic. This is a one-of-a-kind experience that’s educational and fun. Staci is an excellent host and her ranch is beautiful. The Sierra Foothills are perfect for a relaxing getaway if you want to extend your trip. Wineries, orchards, inns, and nature walks are all nearby.

We had such a wonderful day with Staci and all of the animals at Tesoro Mio. We weren’t quite sure what to expect but ended up exceeding whatever subconscious expectations we may have had. Staci was so personable and also very generous with the wines and snacks, we left much fuller than we thought and had to cancel our lunch plans. Staci also provides a wealth of information in a very pleasant and digestible manner. All of the dogs, goats, and bird were so much fun to hang out with. The property is a hidden little slice of truffle heaven with beautiful hill and orchard views. The truffles you find will likely be smaller than what you see being shaved over your pasta in the restaurant, but do not worry— there is no shortage of truffles in the snacks provided and foraging any truffles at all in California is such a unique experience. If you enjoy nature, food, animals and looking for something relaxing, fun, educational and different to do— then do this.
