What you'll do

I will tell you about the history of women and marginalised groups in Reykjavík and Iceland by going through who started the fight that got us to where we are now and how we are continuing it today, because even though Iceland is number 1 in the world in gender equality, according to the world economic forum, we still have ways to go when it comes to disabled women, women of colour, immigrants, poor women, trans women, non-binary people and more marginalised people. The tour will start by the first statue of a woman that was ever erected in Iceland, in Mæðragarður (Mother's Garden) and lead you through downtown and finally around The Pond, ending at one of the oldest schools in the country Kvennskólinn (Reykjavík Women's Gymnasium). We stop along the way where women have made their mark on the history of Reykjavík, Iceland, and the world. Even though being accessible, the stops are usually not marked and are rarely talked about in accessible history, or on other tours, with the emphasis on how women have participated in the history of that place. The tour is around 2 hours and the stops are around 15, I leave room for questions and discussion at each stop and guests are encouraged to engage actively in the tour.

Learn more about Tinna

Tinna

I'm 33 year old woman that is born and raised in Iceland. I was raised by a single mother of two, I grew up one street over from the first woman in the world that was elected president, two streets over from one of the biggest pop-stars in the world (Björk), and went to school with the son of my female mayor. As a child I learned that women could do anything, by watching women do whatever they wanted. Ever since my childhood I've been deeply interested in feminism, marginalised groups, and human rights. Now I'm graduated as an Anthropologist, and have immersed myself in the history of women, and marginalised groups in Reykjavík, and Iceland, and want to share that her-story with everyone else.

Where you'll be

We will walk around a beautiful part of downtown Reykjavík, mainly around The Pond, an area that is tranquil and beautiful even though it is in the middle of town. Enjoy a nice stroll in one of the prettiest parts of the city.
