Vinci at Sunset & a picnic with a view

Empoli, Italy

Experience hosted by Matteo

5 hours
Includes food, drinks, transportation, equipment
Up to 7 people
Hosted in English, Italian

What you'll do

We will take a scenic foothpaths once walked by Leonardo, through this unique environment and I will tell you more about the nature of the area and its story. As a Environmental guide and thank to my background in Natural Science I will explain you why this area is special (hundreds of years of work of committed farmers, through wineyards, olive trees, terraces, watermills, shaped the hill sides creating a peculiar, beatiful patchwork of man made, yet biodiversity friendly, features) and why is special to me (as a child it was great to pretend to be a fearless explorer here and discover the nature)! Once on the hill top on the shade of a secolar tree, you will be sitting on comfy blanket and enjoy a delicious panino and a local wine admiring Vinci from a different stunning perspective.
Other things to note
You will need to get to Empoli station by yourself, but there are many train options to easily get to Empoli. Wear shoes with a good grip and bring a water bottle and a small rucksack(if you have it)

I am a certified environmental guide and I have a MSc in Natural Science. After a 3 years experience working in UK, I decided to come back where I was born 35 years ago and where I belong!
I enjoy so much doing enviromental education with kids (and adults!) and as a hiking guide, showing the places that I love and where I grew up (and maybe help to make Italy a little bit more''user friendly''!)

Where you'll be

We will start our walk from the medieval castle of Vinci. We will take a nice footpath that will lead us in the countryside surrounded by olive trees, beautiful dry stone wall terraces and woods.
We will be soon at one of my favourite spot since I was a child, where the view is astonishig!

Matteo is the nicest tour guide ever! The experience was more like a walk with a local friend. He is very knowledgeable and knows this area very well. The local history was interesting and you would also learn about the plants on the mountains. It’s very easy to get to Empoli Station from Florence. Matteo can arrange things very well. If you want to experience something special in Tuscany, this is a very good choice.

Matteo is an absolutely great guy! My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time hiking together with him. Getting from the main train station in Florence to Empoli is just a matter of about 30 minutes, and definitely worth the ride. For us it was a great experience to actually leave the loud and crowded city of Florence for a beautiful hike in the nature of Tuscany. During the hike, Matteo explained a lot about the region, the nature and the history it has with Leonardo Da Vinci. But it was also great to talk with him about other topics! The sunset picnic was composed of great local food and wine, freshly bought on top of the hike. At first the event seems a bit costly, but you have to keep in mind that it also includes two taxi rides, local food and wine. I can totally recommend it, especially as contrast to Florence!
