What we’ll do

We will meet at the Visitor Center and walk to the caldera rim where I'll show you how the volcano has changed since the 2018 eruption. Then we'll walk the Halema'uma'u trail into the caldera itself. Please dress appropriately including footwear for hiking. The park can be hot and sunny or cool and rainy. Please bring your own water and snacks. Please also gauge your own fitness level. The Halema'uma'u trail is a workout!

Where you'll be

We meet at the visitor center, walk to the caldera (crater) rim behind the Volcano House, and then hike the Halema'uma'u Trail, which descends into the actual caldera (the main volcanic crater; 400 ft. elevation change, moderate difficulty). This requires hiking down the trail and coming back up the same way, ending back at the visitor center.
