What you'll do

Day 1
We will snowshoe two hours in the beautiful Garibaldi Park through the Elfin Lakes sub alpine spruce forest. Then, we will enjoy a well-deserved lunch break at the Red Heather Hut where we will warm-up close to the fire stove.

You will team up with 2 or 3 persons to build your own quinzee. I will provide you with instructions and guidance during the different step of the construction.

We will start the construction by burying your own backpack under a pile of 1.50 meter of snow. Then, we will dig and hollow out the snow mound like a cave to find back your backpack. The final step will consist to enlarge the space and create enough room for you to spend the night inside.

In the morning, you will have the surprise to wake up in a beautiful crystal bluish environment.

The building of the quinzee is fun and become quite addictive as you are progressing inside!
After a few hours of shoveling you'll feel super proud of yourself: you will get to sleep away from the cold, in a shelter you built with your own hands.
Other things to note
This is an easy snowshoeing trail of 5 km long (1.5 to 2 hours).

Each participant will carry the equipment provided in their own backpack and will arrange their own transportation.

Day 2
Join us in the warm wooden hut beside the fire stove for a traditional French breakfast featuring a handmade sourdough bread made with organic and freshly milled Red Fife flour, coffee, tea, butter and jam.

Have your personal photo session inside the quinzee so you can show to your friends you made it! During this session, I will help you feel as natural as possible so that I can capture the stolen glances, precious smiles and silly giggles of the instant.

We will snowshoe back one hour 30 minutes in the beautiful Garibaldi Park through the Elfin Lakes sub alpine spruce forest. Then, we will enjoy a well-deserved lunch break at the Red Heather Hut where we will warm-up close to the fire stove.
Other things to note
This artisan bread is made with heritage flour naturally low in gluten. It contains no dairy products, no nuts, no sugar. It is fermented 24 hours to facilitate the digestion & make it more flavorful.

The hike up and building the Quinzee were much more strenuous than I had expected after reading the description! It was all worth it in the end-sleeping in such a gorgeous place was incredible. Florent was a wonderful host-very helpful and generous. What an amazing experience!

This experience is really something else. It is challenging to the point that you may be sitting in the cold at times thinking “what the hell have I gotten myself into??” but it was also spectacular and unique - truly something out of the ordinary. I would recommend anyone with a sense of adventure to try this out. Come prepared with more winter gear and extra socks and gloves than you think you need, maybe some hand warmers, and you’ll have a great time. Florent is very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. He is a great host!

Our Quinzee experience with Florent was absolutely superb. He was so knowledgeable and made sure that we learned as much as possible while also ensuring we had fun the whole time. He also brought some amazing homemade bread for breakfast and it was delicious. The area is also beautiful and we stayed an extra night in the snow cave just so we would have time to snowshoe around. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique and adventurous time.
