What you'll do

Together with our beekeeping teacher you will enter the Beepalace and take a seat on our in-structure bench where you see the bees flying in with pollen on their legs.

The beekeeper will tell you more about; the specially designed building, the bees, how they live, what they eat, need and produce.

You will be able to taste some delicious, sustainable Amsterdam honey, learn about propolis and it's tincture, taste pollen, feel and smell wax, and try some sustainable lip-balm made out of it.
He will answer all your questions, tell what the story is about the bees dying that we hear off in the media, different sustainable/modern approaches, what natural beekeeping is and what YOU can do to provide them with a brighter future.

You will then be given a bee suit and go inside one of the hives together with our experienced beekeeper and see nectar, honey, pollen, brood and you might even get the chance to touch/hold them yourself.

After this exciting -because going inside a hive with 10-50.000 bees is an- experience, we cool down on the bench with a nice glass of honey-wine so you can ask your final questions.
Other things to note
Please try not to have perfume, deodorant or other heavy smells on you, as it disturbs the bees, making them more likely to sting. The same and even more counts for having consumed alcohol or chemical drugs the day of (and during ;-) the visit.

I am the director and natural beekeeping teacher of WellBeeing. As the beekeeping teacher of this foundation, I train 12 English and 12 beginner students to become natural (city) beekeepers every year. I catch swarms, give introduction courses, lectures, teach in school about bees, host visits to the bees, develop natural hives and create nesting spaces for (solitary) bees, plant flowers, spread seed (bags), ... whatever I can do for bees and pollinating insects. The Bee Palace in the Westerpak is one of our 6 locations in the city of Amsterdam but it is unique for its construction, the 3 different types of natural hives, and it's location in the park. We organise 10-people visits for locals once a month. But I also like visitors, to be able to dive in the wonderous world of bees with me. In a smaller setting, at a moment that suits you.

An interactive, insightful way to learn more about bees and why they play such a crucial part in our lives and future. Geert is a great guide who shared many interesting facts with us. We had a chance to get real close with bees in their beehives and see them at work. You don't get to experience that every day. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about bees, have a better idea of how to help and protect them or if you want to try something different in Amsterdam.

What a great experience with the Bees and Geert! My wife and I enjoyed meeting and learning about the bees and their critical role in our ecosystem. Geert shared personal and professional stories and expert knowledge on the bees. We felt super safe and comfortable. The location is very cool too. Westerpark is a non-touristy urban park with a beautiful and pastoral feel to it. After our time with the Bees, we took a short walk to a farmhouse in the park where we had lunch and a fresh beer. Definitely recommend this experience with Geert! He will make you laugh and learn with the bees. A special experience for us during our stay in Amsterdam. Thank you Geert!
