"We enjoyed the walking tour with Lydia so much. She asked what we were interested in and adapted the tour accordingly. We saw many different parts of town that we would not have visited otherwise. We always felt safe and cared for. The conversations were easy going and we learned a lot. You can really feel her enthusiasm and love for her city. Would definitely recommend".

I am a journalist with a passion for story telling. I love my culture and it's people. I love my country too. Dar-es Salaam's city sounds evoke the curiosity in me, so i head out to explore, all the time.

"My afternoon with Lydia is one I will remember for ever! It was special and true and something I would not have been able to do by myself. She took me throughout Dar es Salaam as a true local and I was able to really immerse myself in the local culture by truly experiencing. She catered to some of my specific requests and made sure that these requests were met and that I was comfortable and having fun the entire time- which I 100% was!! Lydia is a lovely person and someone who you can certainly trust, not just as a person but trust that you will have a great experience with her. "

Where you'll be

We will walk through the city center central avenue, beach front then sway towards the old "Indian Bazaar" lane. We will mingle within the city for a while then head of to the CBD which is originally the heart of Swahili. In between, we will sample some Swahili snacks then "keep walking".

The experience was just perfect. It was a mixture of knowledge and stories transmitted in a natural but accurate way. The order and depth of things visited and said was perfect. I think Lydia has a very good understanding of people and is capable to adapt the tour and the conversations accordingly. Definitely not a perspective of the city I could have got alone. Highly recommended!

The tour with Lydia was really nice and helpful. She adjusted the tour to my wishes but also showed me details of the city that my guide book didnt mention. She also allowed me to go on my own pace (for example when I wanted to take pictures or see stuff at market) and was all the time very friendly. I definitely will book the tour again, for her to show me the parts we missed and to get to chat again!

I had a great time with Lydia on the Swahili culture walking tour. Lydia was wonderful. Very easy to connect with, engaging, energetic and passionate. My favorite parts of the tour were the coast view on the rooftop of one of the oldest houses in Dar, buying spices at the bustling market, the fish market and tasting snacks along the walk in a very impromptu manner, as pictured- which made the whole experience very natural. You don’t feel at any point that you are part of an organized tour but instead walking through the city with friends, which was great. I would definitely recommend this experience to others.

The tour with Lydia is phenomenal! She is really knowledgeable and her tour is comprehensive, extensive and so fun. She went above and beyond to help us buy special souvenirs, to ensure their quality, help us negotiate, help us with the language. Her energy is amazing and this is in my opinion the very best and truest way to see Dar es Salaam - 100% recommended.

Lydia’s walk was a fast paced introduction to the rich tapestry of Dar es Salaam- Abode of peace. We walked through many different precincts while Ledia shared story’s of the architecture, history and politics, tree lined streets the action and smell of the fish market and Kariakoo. I loved it when we left the street and ducked inside building. I would absolutely walk with Lydia again there are so many different faces of Dar to explore
