What you'll do

Salem is a beautiful city best known for its tragic 1692 'Witch' Trials. Our 'walk and talk' will focus on the history of the Witch Hysteria of 1692 while discovering additional Salem sites along the route, including some from the movie Hocus Pocus. The tour length is 1 1/2 -2 hours depending on the interaction and the pace of the group, and we'll cover about 2 miles. As a resident, I can share local color and stories to help bring Salem alive for you. Our tour is historical, but I may sprinkle in a legend or two along the way.
If the dates/times of the tour posted do not work for you, drop me a note and I will do my best to accommodate your travel plans.
If you'd like a more complete history tour of Salem, I also lead a tour called Explore Salem with a Local which is 2 1/2-3 hours and includes areas related to our Golden Age of Sail and the Revolutionary War. Send me a message if you'd like more information on this tour.

Where you'll be

Our walk will visit about 10 spots depending on the pace of our group, including these sites: The Lyceum Building, the site of the Salem Gaol (Jail), the Joshua Ward House, the Witch House, Ropes Mansion (from Hocus Pocus), and the Witch Trials Memorial. We will not enter any buildings; the tour is entirely outdoors.

Clearly the best choice for touring Salem. Beth is well read and well informed about the history of Salem. We were so fortunate that she made room for us in her tour. It was the best part of visiting. My daughter has some much more to add to her paper about Salem. She didn't even cut corners because of the cold and windy weather. She is a real trooper.

The tour with Beth was great! She knows so much having lived there her entire life, and I really enjoyed her perspective being a local and having experienced some unexplained things herself! She walked at a pace I liked and was very thorough. She answered all our questions and she genuinely loves Salem and it shows. She sent us very detailed instructions for meeting her and gave us a lot of info regarding parking, hours and even weather. She had umbrellas for everyone on the tour and we needed them! Highly recommend her!

Beth had great knowledge and anecdotes about the historical locations we visited. I learned so much about the Witch Trials, and historical figures who played a role in that dark chapter of American history. As a Salem local, Beth also gave us great insight into the town, and how it's changed in more recent years.

Our tour was excellent! Definitely worth it — in a town with MANY touristy options, this felt much more authentic and meaningful. Highly recommend!

Beth was a very informed and fun tour guide. I loved her telling of Salem's history, and her additional notes on the architecture and general history of the city. She has such a deep understanding of the city and has great recommendations for how to spend the rest of the day. I'd highly recommend her tour for anyone visiting town!
