What you'll do

If the weather permits, we will start off visiting a local milkweed patch to learn about the plants and how to find monarch eggs and caterpillars - and we will bring whatever we find back to the "monarch house". When we return, you will learn how to set up the eggs and care for the caterpillars, getting hands on during the experience. If you are lucky, there are often monarchs emerging from their chrysalis (which you will get to release) as well as transforming from caterpillar to chrysalis. In mid September, you can be a part of the wing tagging process. You will learn all about their life cycle, how you can help the monarch/butterfly population in your community, and how to sex them as an adult or even when in the chrysalis. At the end, you will get to choose a caterpillar or egg (even one you may have found yourself on the milkweed patch) and name it! You will receive a text or email each day of the caterpillars growth, until it forms a chrysalis and then emerges as a butterfly.

Robyn &Amp; Paul

As a former zookeeper and butterfly director, I am passionate about conserving these creatures, especially monarchs! I have been raising (from eggs and caterpillars), releasing and tagging monarchs from the wild, along with aiding in research about their migration to Mexico - and you can be a part of it!

Where you'll be

If weather permits, we will visit at least one nearby milkweed patch, before heading to the Butterfly House where we will spend the rest of the time.
