Venice is the #1 tourist destination in California and has one of the top ten boardwalks in the US as it offers an unforgettable cultural experience with great photo ops! From famous Muscle Beach, Dogtown's Skate Park, basketball court, bike paths, Graffiti Walls, murals, famous movie locations and studios, historic landmarks, exciting street performers-chain-saw jugglers, fire-breathers, break-dancers, roller skaters, Rastafarian drummers, guys walking on glass and surfers. From funky and bohemian to trendy and posh-there’s definitely never a dull moment here as the shops, restaurants, bars and art galleries of Abbot Kinney are nearby-aptly named the hippest street in America by GQ Magazine.
Generations of my family are from Santa Monica where I grew up hearing stories from old-timers-but I've always preferred the quirky characters of nearby Venice beach. I love to share my knowledge of the area from hidden gems like the beautiful gardens alongside the Venice canals and walk streets to the secret speak-easies, brothels, and local legends such as Charlie Chaplin, Jim Morrison, Arnold Schwarzennegger and Marilyn Monroe.
Drinks at the end of the tour is an option if you are over 21
Other things to note
Please note that rain will cancel the tour. If you can-tips are appreciated :)

My family grew up in nearby Santa Monica and I love to share the local lore, legends and landmarks. I work out at muscle beach, have done stand-up comedy, studied film and love to point out all of the local movie locations, famous celebrity homes and haunts. I come from a family of artists, worked in local galleries and love to point out hidden murals. I’ve led tours for a decade including the Venice Art Crawl and as VP for the Venice Historical Society with clients that have included Google and LA city council members. Let me show you the best photo opportunities at the beach in Los Angeles!

Where you'll be
I usually meet guests by the historic Venice sign on Windward Avenue. This is the hubbub of Venice-much like it was over 100 years ago when this was part of the Venice Lagoon and canals leading to the famous pleasure and amusement pier and boardwalk. It's close to Muscle Beach, the skate park which was once the rollerskating capital of the world, the basketball park where many movies have been filmed, the picturesque canals and Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Barbara was awesome. My wife and I ended up spending a bit more time taking photos on Venice Canals and Barbara was accommodating. She also generously offered cancellation of a previous tour due to wind conditions and took care of issuing a refund for it. We ended up covering quite a bit during the tour and Barbara was great. Would definitely recommend.

Never knew Venice/Venice Beach had canals and the inviting walkways by peoples homes. Historic spots & many murals around. Great places, i.e, restaurants, coffe shops, etc. Went back to Venice beach and watched skateboarders, small & big! Wonderful, memorable experience! Barbara knows her history & shares her love of the area!

My husband, cousin, and I went on a very interesting and entertaining tour with Barbara through Venice Beach...we heard about the many celebrities who lived there, saw some wonderful murals, met a grafitti artist on the beach, and saw a great hip hop show...we also learned about the history of the canals, the founder Abbot Kinney, and much more! We ended up at a great roof bar with fabulous views....very enjoyable!

My boyfriend and I got stuck in traffic and had some difficulty with parking and were 45 minutes late. Barbara actually waited for us in a Café and still gave us the tour for the rest of the time we had! She showed us most of Venice Beach and pointed out areas on the map where she would have taken us if we had gotten there earlier. We walked those areas ourselves and her tips were super useful! She is fun, has a very unique perspective and cool stories, and very patient and receptive. She has a great Venice Beach, chill vibe, which we loved! I recommend parking in a lot - there are some near the meeting place for the walking tour so just drive to the address she gives you (we made the mistake of parking further away). One of the lots is closed early but the other is not, so just look closely. Recommend this tour!!
