As a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and one of the volunteers preparing food and pastries for the annual Greek Festival, I make the Greek specialties, including baklava, souvlaki, and spanakopita. What we’ll do

You’ll be welcomed to my kitchen to prepare your own pan of baklava, and learn where local ethnic grocers carry the specialty products needed to duplicate your pastry. Armed with a recipe perfected by my late mother-in-law, you will learn the multiple steps in preparing this beloved dessert, from creating the honey enriched syrup to working with the sometimes temperamental filo dough. Guests will assemble and bake a small pan of baklava (7" X 11"), bake it, and add the simple honey syrup. Guests with nut allergies not recommended. All ingredients provided, but guests will be doing the actual assembling of the pastry, and given tips on handling filo dough and making simple syrup
