I'm a registered and qualified tour operator in Cape Town, South Africa (WC9804). I have rare insights into the dynamics and history of Cape Town since I grew up here. My experience in community development makes me an ideal person to communicate historical development in South Africa. I co-founded Township Roots in order to contribute to the development of poor communities. I'm also a student at the University of Cape Town studying Postgraduate Diploma in Adult Education and Community Training. I'm multi-lingual with a strong desire to explore international languages.

About the organization

Township Roots

Township Roots wants to reduce the number of school drop-outs, develop resilient community leaders, and increase the chances of success among learners who attend low resourced schools within the disadvantaged communities of Philippi and Nyanga. We hope to achieve this mission by improving children’s literacy in primary school, and providing a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Township Roots.

Where you'll be

We'll walk through a former slave community where you'll learn about the oldest slave buildings in South Africa, and interact with the Bo-Kaap community members (former slaves). Bo-Kaap is formerly known as the Malay Quarter, and this community dates back to the 1760s. We'll experience Cape Malay cuisines at Kombuis restaurant.
