What you'll do

You will learn how to make a traditional Nigerian dish, or learn a modern take on a traditional dish through a step by step cooking class, using some indigenous ingredients flown in from Nigeria. At the same time I will teach you the historical and cultural significance of the dish while some rhythmical Afrobeats music plays in the background. By the time you are done, you will have sufficient knowledge of Naija Style Dinner Parties 101. Some dishes we may cook include Naija style Butter and vodka crust meat pies, Chin chin, Fried Plantains, Jollof Rice and Suya Chicken! This experience is great for groups, teams, families and as a corporate team building exercise!

I am Head Chef and Owner of Eko Kitchen San Francisco, the city's first and only Nigerian restaurant. I quit my day job as a Financial Analyst to open this restaurant earlier this year. I have hosted numerous pop up dinners and cooking classes and have been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, Eater SF and Bon Apetit for my unique take on traditional Nigerian food. I derive joy from sharing Nigerian food, music and culture with people from all around the world and have been great at it so far.

What a great experience! Simi was very welcoming and friendly. She took us step by step through the instructions for the meals we were preparing and even made us follow on the dishes we were not personally hands on with which was great because I felt like I could make everything at home when I’m by myself. She even made us a generous portion of the doughnut desserts to take home!

The cooking class was a lot of fun! Sim planned out each dish and guests picked which they'd like to chop, prep, or mix (with great guidance) before heading into the kitchen to cook. The food was great and making the puff puff pastries was extra fun!

A great experience, even beyond a cooking class! The class was fun, light-hearted and felt like hanging out with new but familiar friends. Food was amazing! And we were able to take home a large portion of extra food.
