What we’ll do

¡Bienvenido a Panama! We meet at 9:30am! We start off at the West Indian/AfroCaribbean history of Panama at the AfroAntillean Museum near the city’s old colonial sector, to go over the history of the AfroCaribbean labor that not only built the Panama Canal but also the country’s infrastructure from the railroad to the artificial 77 km waterway that is the Panama Canal. What else you should know

It rains most of the year in Panama, oftentimes the rain stops just as suddenly as it starts. We will continue the tour rain or shine. Please wear closed-toe shoes, and bring a sunhat and/or umbrella, and bottled water as it is a tropical climate. Your U.S. phone lines DO work in-country.

Where you'll be

We start off at Panama Canal Miraflores Locks and visitor center, then we continue on to the AfroAntillean museum, have lunch in the neighborhood, and then end in the colonial area of Casco Viejo and the predominantly AfroPanamanian neighborhoods of Santa Ana and San Felipe, the original name for "Casco Viejo."
