What you'll do
You'll arrive at my studio and we will start by looking at some samples of different kind of felting. We will discuss materials and process and you will learn some basic felting history. From there I will show you all the materials available to you for your felting project. I will then do a short demo and give you some guidance on techniques. Then it will be your turn to play with the wools and silks and start laying down some colour. Once the designing phase is complete then you will move to the felting part. This means a lot of rolling and pounding of your felt piece. It can be pretty physical! You can take a break at any time to enjoy some tea/coffee and treats. There are also lots of books to look thru and textiles to admire. Once the felting is done then we will discuss briefly how to look after your felt and what you can do with it. *** if you don't see the availability on the calendar that you want please reach out! I am available most days and can make something work :)
I have been running my business, Frances Felt, since 2003. I graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design with honours with a BFA in Textiles. I returned home to the West Coast to start a business making hand crafted felt accessories. I hand dyed all the wool and silk and created beautiful scarves and shawls. I expanded into clothing soon after. Each garment contained a unique one-of-a-kind piece of fabric that I designed. I have taught many felting classes in Vancouver and Pemberton, helping people understand the magic and mysteries of wool and felt. I now run my studio and business out of my house, selling my work on-line, at craft galleries and at reputable craft shows around BC.
I will have tea and coffee available and always have some sort of delicious baked goods for all. Please let me know if there…
