What you'll do
I remade my contents. Finally it's a traditional hand making! The tatami shop is my family business. My father is a craftsman of tatami and I'm studying to become one like my father. This tradition is important in Japan, and it has developed its own skills for the "shokunin-waza," or craftsmanship, involved in making mats. I will teach you about these skills. you'll get an authentic look at Japanese culture and awesome souvenir with unforgettable experience. First, I'll show inside a factory. Then you'll get explanation about materials and how to make tatami mats. And make your own tatami mat using skills. We're gonna use only needles, strings and some tools. I want you to know traditional skills. But this time we use easier materials to make it. You can take it with you to decorate your home. Its size is a little larger than the notebook. After the workshop, you'll have tea on your very own mat.
I'm the third-generation in my family carrying the tatami making tradition forward at our workshop. The workshop is located in Izumi-city. Izumi is not central city of Osaka. There is between the central city and Kansai airport. You can also enjoy the local place of Osaka:) And I'm also an owner of the Fujitatami guesthouse next to the workshop. My job is to continue the tradition of craftsmanship and to spread awareness around the world, so I am improving my English. I would love to share this experience with you!
Sweets You can sample wagashi—Japanese sweets—.
Japanese tea You'll get houjicha (Roasted green tea). Alternatively, there will be coffee and water available.
Masks I can provide these as it may get dusty in the factory.

Where you'll be
We'll meet at the ticket gate of Izumi-Chuo Station. It takes only 35 minutes from Nankai Namba station to Izumi-chuo station by the train! Then we'll walk 15 minutes to my workshop. After making the tatami mat, we'll enjoy tea time at the guesthouse next to the workshop. When you come to the experience and back to Osaka city, you'll through Sakai city. Sakai is famous for Knives and Ancient tombs. You also get the chance to go there.
