What you'll do

We'll travel on-foot to a wooded location within the San Gabriel Mountains outside Los Angeles. All senses are stimulated, creating a unique experience only this national forest and historic structure can provide. Guests hike as a group, led by Shoestring Adventures' Trail Guides, putting you in personal touch with the canyon, its history, and your fellow adventurers. Upon reaching the cabin, guests will be treated to craft food and drinks, artistic pieces from new artists, as well as oratory and live-music that celebrate the Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice. There's no phone reception at the gallery and you'll disconnect until you reach the top of the canyon again.

Joseph

I'm the steward of Cabin No. 56 and the founder and curator of the gallery. I worked for Sundance Institute and The Redford Center as an idea agitator. Art, poetry, music, food and drink seem to me paired perfectly with the beauties of the natural world, and always seem to be trying to capture what only it offers us. Whatever that means to you, if this experience touches you I’m grateful.

Where you'll be

The only and best way to explore the gorgeous Big Santa Anita Canyon is on foot – hikers will see many historic cabins by the trail and nestled among the oak, bay, and alder trees along the way. Or pack animals hauling supplies by mule train, just as it was in California's Great Hiking Era.
