What you'll do

I am passionate about working with the dolls because there are no two identical, because in some way, almost magical, they always seem to develop their own personalities! It is this passion that I would like to share with you. I will introduce the various types of dolls (the) and explain the different uses (play, decorate) of each one. In our experience, we will make a specific model AFRICAN DOLL together. Together we will create a beautiful cloth doll made with African fabric. This African is full of style and elegance and perfectly represents the African woman inside and outside Africa who likes to dress in her traditional fabrics.
In this class, you will select a kit that includes all the materials to complete your Africana. I will guide you step by step in the process of filling your doll's body, attaching your arms, hair or turban and accessories. Anyone with basic sewing skills can create this beautiful piece of fabric art for their home.
Other observations
DURING THE WEEK, THIS EXPERIENCE WILL BE HELD IN MY HOUSE IN CAPAO REDONDO, BUT IF YOU PREFER A CLASS IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME, I WILL GO TO YOU! :)
We will be very happy if you are comfortable with crafts.

I'm Renee, Guyana's artisan who migrated to Brazil in 2011 because of the love of a Congolese geologist who had to leave Congo because of the war where he was working. My dollmaking journey has evolved from making paper mache dolls to making black dolls that represent the African diaspora. I love and use the colorful traditional African fabrics. I believe that a world without prejudice and with respect for all different peoples and cultures is the way to a more just and peaceful world. I use my art as a way of conveying these ideals, strengthening ethnic-racial identity through my work and my dolls. I have been making black rag dolls since 2012 and today many of my dolls live in Sesc SP play spaces and this motivates me daily to keep improving.
