What you'll do
All guests will need a fishing license, not provided, 1 day non-resident can be purchased online for ~$25. I provide all gear. We will meet and briefly discuss the major concepts of fly fishing, casting and line control mechanics mainly. I have devised some practice rods we will use to get comfortable with the motions, casting in grass to targets. Then we will discuss rod parts and rig up the real fly rods and continue casting practice. When guests are comfortable with casting mechanics, we will move on to the terminal tackle discussion, I will show you a few knots and teach you how to rig up from fly line to leader to tippet to fly. At this point we are 2-2.5 hours into the trip and we will break for lunch. That will leave us around 3 hours to fish, we will see a few different stretches of the river and work on line mending, or on water line control. I will demo briefly and then help you achieve the necessary drag free drift, and most days we are rewarded with a hook up on a native brown trout(they’re from europe originally but the state doesn’t stock brown trout so they are a naturally reproducing population) I’ll show you a couple techniques and explain what you’re trying to do and why it will or won’t take a fish. I’ll be there by your side to net your fish and take pics and high five you after we set it free
I’ve been fishing since I could walk. Water calls to me, and the fly fisherman has a unique opportunity to connect with not just the river and the fish he seeks, but also the bugs, the birds, the light...The natural world! I will show you the angler’s place in the greater eco-system, teach you to cast and mend line, put you in a set of waders and take you to the river to fish. I spent 4 years in Chile working as a fly fishing guide in Patagonia, now back in my native Denver I fish as much as possible and I love to share my passion with anyone who will listen. I have taken university level Aquatic Entomology courses to learn more about trout food. I am also a licensed Outfitter in the state of Colorado, I carry my own insurance and I have permission from the state to use the public lands where we will practice casting, picnic and fish

Where you'll be
We will meet at one of Denver Mountain Parks’ sites on the Bear Creek, the place is a canyon so it makes for some spectacular views, boulders and cliff faces. I like to notice the birds, swallows and chickadees are common, lots of hummingbirds in the summer too. The river is small and offers a variety of water types to study and practice line control
