What you'll do

This is suitable for all levels, beginners to advanced. We're going to ditch the crowds and traffic and head out for a waterfall hike off the beaten path in the Smoky Mountains!

This is a moderate 4-8 mile hike - depending on how far you want to go, and your ability level. This an excellent hike for beginners and intermediates, since it follows an old railroad bed. This was originally built by a logging company to haul timber from the mountains, so much of the trail is wide, level, and the grade is not too steep.

This trail also features several excellent waterfalls and cascades and is arguably one of the best waterfall hikes in the national park since it features 3 large waterfalls and dozens of other smaller cascades to enjoy.

If you are staying in Knoxville we'll meet at a coffee shop near downtown and will carpool to the trailhead. Otherwise, we'll meet at Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont.

We'll be unplugged, free from the distractions of our phones. If you are feeling stressed and burnt out by the constant demands for your attention and the millions of daily distractions, and if you feel like you never have a moment to yourself to relax and focus on you instead of everybody else, you'll love this special experience!

You'll make new friends, get some exercise and breathe in the fresh mountain air!

Since there are no phones on this hike, I'll take pics

Where you'll be

We will meet at Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. We will be away from the crowds and will do a gorgeous waterfall hike.

Wear a good pair of walking or hiking shoes. We'll be outside seeing some beautiful sights, so you'll want to bring sunscreen, bug spray and a water bottle. We'll be unplugged so we can enjoy the experience to its fullest. I will take pictures and everyone will get an online photo album.

This hike was such a great experience. It was a beautiful hike and Scott was so friendly and helpful. It was really nice to enjoy nature around us and not be so connected to our phones. I highly recommend this hike if you’d like to see another part of the park and a part where most people tend to not visit.

Enough of the rat race. Unplug and be surrounded by stunning scenery, uplifting attitude and, of course, gratitude. Even though every step of the 8 miles involved rain, it was still my favorite part of the trip to Gatlinburg area. Highly recommend!

Scott was very friendly and welcoming. He had us share our background and stories to allow everyone to become friends. It was good to disconnect from your personal life and get into nature. I definitely recommend this to any beginner. There were beautiful views to take in.
