What you'll do

“Shouseian” is a cozy and small old house located near Musashi.
It portrays one of the traditional ordinary houses where you can feel yourself as if you had been living here and you were invited as a neighbor.

Before beginning our tea ceremony, I would like to explain the history of Matcha, with a focus of relationship with spiritual Zen method “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku “, why and how the tea ceremony was spread to people in Kanazawa, and some manners that I would like you to know as a guest.

First, I’ll show you a whole process to make a bowl of thin tea, which you have hardly seen, to find “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku” in it while tasting Japanese sweets.

As for tea, you can enjoy a bowl of tea that I serve as well as make your own tea and taste them.

I prepared the souvenirs (pictures provided): a tea bowl, a tea whisk, and Matcha(20g) which are selected by my favorite local supplier of utensils used in the way of tea.

Of course it’s a option, but if you are interested in those souvenirs, please let me know when you book.
Once I confirmed, Airbnb will charge you ¥5000 later.

I truly hope this experience will be unforgettable for you, and the souvenirs will remind you of the memories you made in beautiful Kanazawa!

I’m Tomomi, an instructor of the Way of Tea in Kanazawa, which once was a great castle town of the Kaga Domain Maeda Family.
They were instrumental in developing traditional Japanese high culture including the Way of Tea, and ordinary people here have been enjoyed it.

I’ve been living here, got some licenses at Ura Tea school and studied how to better explain and demonstrate it in English in Seattle, USA.

Now I would like to share it with foreign visitors in the real tea room “Shouseian” which is located near famous “Ohmicyo Market”.
Why don’t you come and experience it while you are here?

Then, if you walk along the Main Street from Musashi to Korinbo, you should make right at the third cross point named “minamicyo”.

It was a lovely experience! My kids and I were felt really wellcomed byTomomi who explained every single detail of the ceremony. She has a very gentle way to talk and prepared her tea room with great care and beauty. Thank you.

"The way of tea" was a wonderful experience, absolutely once in a lifetime and a must if you visit Japan! Tomomi is a gracious and kind host, she first explains the history of the tea ceremony and the gorgeous building, then you eat traditional sweets whilst she makes the tea, then you drink the tea and have a chance to make some yourself. I would 100% recommend Tomomi's experience!
