What you'll do

We will take you to my personal favorite Kyoto shrine and the UNESCO world heritage site, "Shimogamo Shrine."

In addition to offering specialized talks about the history of the World Heritage Site Shimogamo Shrine's main hall and its myths, we'll also teach you about the etiquette and manners surrounding visits to Shinto shrines, meaning that even first-timers to Shinto shrines can enjoy themselves on this tour.

Through this tour, we hope to have everyone deepen their knowledge of both Shimogamo Shrine as well as their understanding of Japan's Shinto religion as a whole.
As Japan is home to a myriad of incredibly interesting deities, we are sure you will find something that interests you!
Other things to note
・We kindly ask that for the improvement of Kyoto, as well as our company, that following the tour you sign up (for free) to our website, Sharing Kyoto, and place a comment on the places you visited during the tour.
・We will be taking photos during the tour, which may be used on promotional material

Hi, nice to meet you!
I'm a member of the tourism website, Sharing Kyoto!

At our website we work to make this place as beloved by the people of the world as it by us. I write a lot of different articles for the website; however, my specialty is Shinto Shrines, and I am especially in love with Shimogamo Shrine.

Through my Instagram account @Shrinegirl, I have visited over 100 Shinto shrines in Kyoto alone.
I am simply in love with Kyoto's shrines, and every day am doing my best to study and learn more about their history and gods.

I have explained about shrines and Japanese deities to my friends from overseas a number of times in the past, so will make sure to pay attention to what those from overseas might find interesting when leading the tour.

Glad to meet a super nice young lady! She studied Japanese culture in her undergrad so I can say she is a real expert in this field. The shrine was attractive as well. There were some new year activités during January. But I didn’t spend lots of days in Kyoto so I can’t try all of them. The introduction of the shrine and a proper way to visit shrine are really helpful. I applied the same method when I went to shrine in Nagoya and Osaka. But some special words or names in the shrine were quite difficult to understand and remember, perhaps because of the culture background. So feel free to post question to the guide, she was very kind and willing to answer it!

This tour is a beautiful way to immerse yourself deeper into Shinto traditions and beliefs. Whilst not a religion, Shintoism forms such a key part of everyday Japanese life and thus a direct window into the culture. There is noone better than Yumemi to walk you through the Shinto world as she is deeply passionate about Kyoto, shrines and sharing them both with visitors. Shin meanwhile brings his own personal touch as a born and bred Kyoto local. Together they have created Sharing Kyoto: so are experts on just about everything in this fascinating city. Thankyou Shin and Yumemi 🙏 Ganbatte!

The tour was nice and Yumemi was very knowledgeable about the shrine. We were lucky to see a special service while visiting one of the shrines and were also able to pray at the shrine that coincided with my birth year in the Chinese zodiac. I enjoyed this tour and it was a great value.

This tour was very interesting. I went with a friend and my daughter, but the guides were patient and explained all the different shrine manners in pretty good detail. They also taught us a lot about the shrine's history and the significance of all the different shrines within the grounds. There was a pretty good number of places that they introduced us to and the tour felt definitely worth it. The guides had obviously put in a lot of effort and gave us some papers with more in-depth explanations about a few of the stories behind the shrine, which was very interesting as well. All up, it was a very worthwhile tour at a very reasonable price.
