About your host, Sarah
I’ve been canning and preserving for as long as I can remember. I founded Marshall's Haute Sauce and have written a book on canning called “Preservation Pantry: Modern Canning from Root to Top and Stem to Core.” I love sharing my passion with everyone I meet.
What we’ll do
During this interactive session I’ll teach you the basics of canning and preserving. You’ll learn how to water-bath and can delicious local produce in new and unique combinations. I’ll also teach you how to make brine, pack your jars properly, sterilize equipment, and ensure that your produce is properly sealed. What I’ll provide
All canning equipment including tongs, jars, and anything else is provided, as well as local produce to make our creations.
Snacks and refreshments
We'll have a spread of local snacks as well as my hot sauces to tide us over while canning.
Who can come
Guests of all ages can attend.
All canning supplies and produce will be provided.
Where we’ll be
We’ll can at my commercial kitchen in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood of Southeast Portland, near the cusp of the town of Milwaukie. You’ll learn all about my business and the canning process, which we do ourselves.
