Had such a wonderful ride with Don Miguel and Monica. Unfortunately, I arrived to the wrong location for pickup, but Monica was very understanding and helpful to walk to the correct location. Once I arrived at the correct location, we were picked up in a very clean and comfortable Kia van for the one hour ride to the ranch in Santo Tomas. Upon arriving at the ranch, Don Miguel met us and offered a delicious breakfast containing juice, eggs with tortillas, and fruits. we were also given a tour of the beautiful ranch, learning more about the family, and the historic saddles and hats. After signing the waiver, we were introduced to the horses and rode in the noon time. We visited various stops, including a tasting of pulque. The scenery was gorgeous with great views of the mountains and the villages. Since we had a novice rider in our group, the pace was kept slow to accommodate and respect the novice rider, but we were able to do a couple of trots and Monica was able to even introduce her to try a short canter as well. The horses were responsive to commands, making it a very nice and fun ride. We had so much fun that the ride lasted four hours. After the ride, Don Miguel had a delicious lunch waiting for us. We enjoyed chicken noodle soup, rice, beans, and chicken mole. All were delicious. Finally, Monica went above and beyond to drop us near our hotel, making it easy to walk back. She also took lots of great pictures of the ride and sent to us. Overall, this was such a wonderful ride to take in the Mexico City area. The people are very sincere and friendly. The horses looked well cared and responsive. Helmets are necessary and provided, but they were very nice to allow me to ride without one since I asked in advance (before booking the ride), and also signed a waiver on the risks of not wearing one. This is definitely a ride I will do again on my next visit to the city.

Truly an experience of a lifetime! From the transportation accommodations to the hacienda, to the thoughtful tour, delicious breakfast, and the breathtaking adventure on horseback, the entire day is something I will remember and cherish forever. Don Miguel is a passionate storyteller and is thrilled to show visitors his beautiful hacienda and ranch. Don’t leave without asking about his private collection of vintage sombreros and saddles which he restores himself, and drink all the pulque! You do not want to miss this experience!

This was truly a magical experience. It absolutely exceeded my husband's and my expectations and we would recommend to anyone visiting Mexico City. At the beginning of the day, Miguel's friend Tania picked us up from Condesa (you can also take a bus, but the convenience was well worth it for us), and we had a wonderful conversation on the 1.5 hr ride out to Hidalgo. We arrived at the most picturesque 250-year-old hacienda and were greeted with a typical breakfast. Don Miguel took us on a tour of the incredible property and even showed us his extensive sombrero and saddle collection. Then, we got a lesson on how to manage the horses. We were all beginners, but Don Miguel explained everything and made us all feel extremely comfortable before we began our journey through beautiful maguey fields and hills. Our first stop was at a local residence to sample the freshest, best quality pulque (and play with the most adorable baby goat). Afterward, we continued through the hills to see a rodeo stadium and a 400-year-old hacienda built by Jesuits. The views were unbelievable. On the way back, I was already feeling extremely comfortable and confident on my horse, and Don Miguel even showed me how to gallop. All of our horses were so lovely and tame in spite of the fact that we were all beginners. When we returned to the hacienda, we had chicken with mole sauce, rice, tortillas, and black beans. We also tasted local artisanal mezcal and enjoyed Don Miguel's incredible stories. You absolutely will not regret booking this experience!

This was such an incredible experience. There’s no price that you could put on the value of history and culture you gain on this trip. I felt like I was eating dinner with my own family by the end of the experience. I was not great at riding the horses and struggled with being a confident rider. Miguel and Monica were right by my side the entire time guiding me and making sure I was comfortable. This was an unforgettable time with incredibly patient and loving hosts. Without a doubt this was the highlight of my trip in Mexico City.

The horseback riding experience is truly magical! Miguel and his family's ranch is a beautiful destination that is rich in history and culture. Everyone spoke great English and is warm, kind, and generous in sharing their knowledge. The terrain looks like a movie set. Do remember to wear long-sleeve shirt & pants for sun protection. If you are not used to horseback riding, your muscles will ache from the workout - but it is 100% worth it! The home-cooked meals are delicious and hearty. Overall, this is a beautiful, local experience that we highly recommend and would love to return again. Thank you for having us!
