We have two houses which are next door to each other called Toshi House also listed on Airbnb. See second photo.
Sudo House is super close to Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort, infact only 400m Gala is one of Yuzawa's most popular ski destinations with the shinkansen train arriving at the Gala ski resort building - now that's convenience!! You can easily walk from Sudo House or even better there is a free shuttle bus that leaves at the top of Sudo House road and will have you at Gala in a few minutes.
A 65m walk from Sudo house will have you on the free shuttle bus with your skis/boards being whisked away on various free shuttle buses to any of the 14 ski resorts in the area.
Sudo House is located in a pocket of homes near onsens, free shuttle buses, ski resorts, a large supermarket, ski hire and only 1.4km from Onsen Street where a selection of over 40 restaurants await you on both West and East side of the train station.
Sudo House sleeps a maximum of 10 people on futon bedding in private bedrooms. We love sleeping on our futons and we do double layer the futons for extra comfort.
A typical Japanese home with some Western comforts, enjoy preparing your meals in the brand new western kitchen, relax on the Ikea sitting chairs in the lounge and enjoy your meals or evening drinks at the dining table in the kitchen. In keeping with the Japanese style Sudo House has tatami mat flooring in the bedrooms and lounge and timber flooring in the other areas and all rooms have beautiful Japanese shoji washi (paper) screen sliding doors. All windows have curtains to provide insulation, extra warmth, privacy and coziness.
Sudo House is kept warm by kerosene heaters that are in each of the four bedrooms, the lounge/dining/kitchen and bathroom. They are very effective and heat the rooms quickly.
Enjoy fabulous views of the snow covered mountains and watch the red and blue Yuzawa Kogen ropeway ascend and descend the mountain in the distance. Also from this side of the house there is a fish pond that is home to (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) gold fish and one Koi fish called Jona however they do hibernate during winter as the pond fills up with snow, so they may not pop out to say hello until Spring time.
IMPORTANT FOR GUESTS TO NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
BEDDING - As Sudo House is a traditional Japanese style home with tatami flooring the bedding is Japanese futons, which is a thin mattress that is laid out on the tatami floor. We do stack 2 futons for comfort for our guests. ***Please note there are no western beds***

What’s so special about Yuzawa?
Gosh where do I begin!!
I’ll start with the snow fall…..there’s a lot, it’s deep and it’s powdery.
If you are after a true Japanese experience and deep powdery snow then look no further. Yuzawa is a traditional town with local Japanese residents going about their daily routines. You don’t see many Westerners around town.
Yuzawa offers more than just skiing and boarding. If you feel like a ski/board free day or the weather isn’t behaving, Yuzawa has you covered. You can:
•Book in to sample the sake from Yuzawa’s local Sake Brewery
•Soak and relax in an onsen
•Don’t feel like a body onsen? Why not try a foot onsen at Inamoto Hotel or Hatago Ryokan both on the West side of the station and both are FREE!!
•Take a browse at the food and souvenir stalls at Echigo Yuzawa train station
•Pop into CocoLo (best described as a Japanese form of a delicatessen) behind the food and gift stalls at Echigo Yuzawa train station (open every day)
•Try the sake vending machines at Ponshu-kan at Echigo Yuzawa train station
•Feeling peckish – enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants along Onsen Street on West side of Echigo Yuzawa train station and don’t forget to check out East side of the station for eating options too.
•The great thing about Yuzawa is how close and easy it is to get to Tokyo so if you feel you need a city fix jump on a shinkansen and explore Tokyo for the day.
Yuzawa Town has a population of just under 8,000 and is the closest ski area to Tokyo using the Shinkansen train arriving at Echigo Yuzawa station in only 77 minutes (200km from Tokyo).
With many people now on the search for new slopes to explore Yuzawa is definitely Japan’s best kept secret (Shhhhh!! Don’t Tell). This ski town will certainly not disappoint with over 14 ski resorts with high falls of deep powdery snow. During the weekends many Japanese jump on a train from Tokyo to ski/board for the day then during the week the slopes become quieter.
Compared to other ski destinations around the world ski hire (approximately 2.500yen per day) and ski passes are not expensive(starting at approximately 43,000yen) in Yuzawa.
