Relax in the beautiful warmth of a unique strawbale cottage after spending the day enjoying the stunning natural beauty of the Blue Mountains. Situated in Leura but backing onto bushland, you'll adore the cosy atmosphere and comforts in this home away from home.
The Strawbale Cottage is a north-facing, split-level, open-plan design. It is filled with natural light during the day, and looks out over natural bushland. It is earth rendered and the majority of the materials are sourced from demolition yards or scavenged. It has a slow combustion fireplace that heats the whole space. Everything you need to light a cosy fire is supplied, including kindling, firewood, firestarters and matches. There are also two portable electric heaters for use as back up. One of them we have located in the bathroom for your convenience but which of course can be moved around if needed. The sleeping area consists of a queen sized bed (equipped with an electric blanket) on the upper level and a single bed tucked around the corner under the loft. There are empty shelves for clothes storage and a small clothes rack for hanging space. The bathroom, which is also on the upper level is a full sized space consisting of a beautiful (but rustic) recycled claw foot bath/shower. Great for a long soak. There is also a front loading washing machine and a clothes dryer in the bathroom. There is a ladder that leads to a loft area which is currently set up as a reading/relaxing space. It gets a lot of afternoon sun and is a great place for a bit of a nap. The Cottage has been well stocked with books. There are lots of fiction and reference books, mostly on gardening and building. If you are half way through a book at the end of your stay I'm sure we can come to an arrangement :). The reference books will have to stay though. Downstairs consists of the fire place, some funky vinyl lounge chairs, a television and DVD player. There is a well equipped kitchen with a microwave, fridge, electric frypan, and two-burner electric benchtop cooker (with a small grill and oven). The bottom level also has a dining table that seats four people. We will provide you with tea and coffee and milk of your choice. There are french doors that lead to large decks on both levels with an outdoor table on the bottom deck. The cottage was built by Dan, so if you are interested in how it was all done please feel free to ask. The cottage is down the back of the property behind the main house. It is about 40 metres from the road down a number of gentle steps. It is a 25 minute walk into Leura mall and to the train station. You will find many coffee / dining options and lots of good shopping. There is also a supermarket, post office, newsagent and a great bottle shop! In addition to the many well known tourist attractions in the Blue Mountains, there are some undiscovered gems we can direct you to nearby our property. There are bush walks and the area is perfect for mountain biking! For example it is a 15km ride along Mount Hay Road (which becomes a fair/reasonably maintained dirt road not far past our place) to one of the most amazing views you are likely to see. Mount Hay Road can also be accessed by most cars and there are many beautiful walks including to Blue Gum Forest, Lockley's Pylon and Flat Top. Please note, although it is normally a minimum 2 night stay, if there are single nights (booked either side) available in our calendar, these are able to be booked for 1 night. This should be already set up so please feel free to book for 1 night on those dates (or send us a message if you have any troubles booking).
We live in a quiet, friendly neighbourhood. It has a bush / rural feel which is quite different from the south side of Leura which is more of a European feel.

Unwind in the 'Shouse', a rustic but modern earth & strawbale building in a secluded valley of protected bushland with cool swimming holes and water falls. Central to the Blue Mts World Heritage Park 900m to the train station, shops, cafes and supermarket.. 1hr 15mins drive from Sydney. No children under 12years sorry
The 'Shouse' has become popular as a meditation and yoga retreat, for board games and conversation by the fire. It is also an excellent base for bush walking. Overlooking a pristine bushland valley, it is a passive solar, rustic straw bale and mud structure. Cool in summer and cosy in winter (with the help of a combustion fire). It is high- tech and entirely off-the-grid. It is a clean but rustic alternative home. Meaning you need to be prepared for the shock of it not having a hair dryer or micro wave. If you cant live without these youll need to bring one yourself. It does however have an essential good coffee machine! It has one large living room with an earth floor and a king size bed enclave, kitchen facilities, shower and toilet. It also has a beautiful, airy and light upstairs loft with 4 more beds - accessed by steep ladder stairs. Being both high and steep the loft area is not suitable for small children, sleepwalkers or the infirm. While central for Blue Mountains bush walking, the property itself also has its own creek and waterfall as well as other interesting natural features including a hanging swamp. We have a chicken yard, honey hives (and two free ranging guinea pigs too, now carried away by wedge tailed eagles). Alternative & organic but pragmatic too Named 'The Shouse' because it was originally intended as a studio, but over the course of the building process, developed into a very comfortable 'house' which our family lived in for 2 years.
Our property is in the bush at the edge of Hazelbrook village - a small, quiet central Mountains town with all essential shops, post office and train station. Also has 2 coffee shops, 3 restaurants a doctors surgery and dentist.

JR's EcoHut is nestled high on a hill with 360 degree views of the beautiful Murrambidgee river flats and of the stunning Kimo valley. Perfect for couples, this glamping experience is really something special. Totally off-grid it makes efficient use of solar power to provide light and water. The stunning shower even has a killer view and with no neighbours for several kilometers you are all on your own. Kimo is a working 7000 acre farm. Breakfast included.
The architecturally designed jut is made of local timber, steel and galvanised iron and stands out yet is at one with its surroundings. The view wraps around you and you are in the landscape day or night. There is nothing like this in the world.
Stunning part of the world where the flats of the west rise up to meet the mountains of the east.

In the Byron Bay Hinterland, 25 minutes from Byron, wake up on top of a mountain to the sunrise & one of the most extraordinary locations in the Shire. Looking over the valley & the Pacific Ocean, Kinabalu is essentially a Private Conservation Park. Surrounded by the Inner Pocket Nature Reserve henceforth one of our main goals are the conservation, rejuvenation and repair of the rainforests of the estate. Come and look and I might get to tell you a story of the ancient forests of Gondwana.
Drive up to the top of the mountain for 3.5kms in an all terrain vehicle . . . or walk. *The road up the mountain is VERY ROUGH so a 4 wheel drive and good driver is necessary to reach the pinnacle*. Please bear in mind All lifts too and from the car park is provided by arrangement and is included in the price. This means please confirm an appointment with plenty of notice. This is one of the most unusual Locations you will ever experience! This is off the beaten track, wild bush mountainous terrain, IN A RUSTIC part RENOVATED BOHEMIAN MOUNTAIN LODGE ORIGINALLY built in 1976. It overlooks the ocean and the deep jungle valley below and we are surrounded by the Inner Pocket Nature Reserve. Experience a fully-equipped off-the-grid, hilltop jungle Safari 1/2 hour from Byron Bay. Wake up to the Golden Sunrise over the vast ocean perched on top of a mountain, at the end of a valley in a secret jungle rainforest overlooking the majestic Pacific; it is called "Kinabalu". The home of the spirits. Surrounded by a Rainforest Sanctuary & Public Nature Reserve, you have absolute privacy and one of the most extraordinary locations of the area and in Australia. The Kyoto, and our two other listings, the Den and the Treepod were nominated in the top twenty in Australia by Airbnb for nature based treehouse experience, so make sure you check out the other two listings. This will be an experience you will never forget. This is nature's remedy for a stressed city lifestyle! If you love the rustic charm of an old mountain cabin built in 1976 together with pristine walks into old growth forest & wild beautiful nature or swimming in the waterfalls is your thing . . . this is it. Please read the listing description carefully. THIS IS NOT THE HYATE REGENT. ITS ATTRACTION IS ITS RUSTIC HAND MADE CHARM. You'll also enjoy full connectivity ADSL (very fast) internet, a large range of books, simple cooking facilities, a yoga deck, and a view that's hard to beat. The building now known as the Kyoto was initially built in 1976 as a base to commence building the main house now known as ‘the Treehouse’. So as you can see it has been around a long time. In 2006 my friend Deon from Bondi Beach, originally from MULLUMBIMBY, decided to renovate this darling little place as it was the first building here being built SO THERE IS MUCH HISTORY HERE. It was a Labour of love (and lovers) in spite of the most difficult circumstances. Using the natural rock of the mountain, old beams from the local old bridges, secondhand building materials, Deon turned this place into a lovers’ dream. So to you lovers of life and nature this experience here will strike a chord with you. :) please come and experience this most special and historical place. It has been quite an achievement to renovate this over the last years . . and still not finished. We are now focused on the garden - still plenty to do so come and plant some herbs and trees if you have a green thumb! You have full access to the whole property & the surrounding Nature Reserve. All help is offered if asked. The area is loved for its lush green growth, abundant water with its many waterfalls, and picturesque scenery. Not to mention it's fabulous beaches. Be aware, that because it is an unconventional building, it is to be assumed to be a 'primitive camping site'. No rails & concrete pathways. It is jungle law here. You enter these premises AT YOUR OWN RISK. All care taken. By agreeing to stay here you are hereby take full responsibility for your own personal safety. Please take note. In the Kyoto Lodge Farm stay there are two cosy double bed bedrooms. The main suite occupies the whole top floor with its own lounge and bathroom attached. The upstairs lounge can also be made into a very comfortable bed for a single. Downstairs there is a double camping style foam mattress in front of the open fire place which could serve as another bed. A shower & toilet is available here with another on it way. The shower is an outdoor garden type built into a giant tree trunk, or you may like to take an Epsom salt bath inside, in the old antique enamel bathtub. There is a lot of western red cedar timber featured throughout the building which lends a charmingly relaxing Scandinavian touch to your unique Aussie bush adventure! Please note again that this accommodation is RUSTIC, SIMPLE & BOHEMIAN in nature, lots of second hand furniture, in a building that was initially built in 1976 over 40 years ago and is not completely finished at this stage. It is, by its nature, a most difficult place to maintain, but we do our best. Please take note, THIS IS NOT 5 STAR accommodation, DO NOT EXPECT THE HYATT REGENT, IT IS NOT FINISHED and there is still much to do. It is by its nature a most difficult place to get completely clean. Some of you may be disappointed with such so please don’t come and expect such. The photos reflect the attributes of the interior though garden area outside the Kyoto lodge is still very rustic, basic and unestablished, with some building materials stacked around the side at this stage, and no sealed pathways. ***Having full mobility is essential for your safety in this environment, and is not suitable for young children without constant adult supervision.*** So in legal term to all intents and purposes, I repeat, it should be considered a ‘primitive camp site’ in the middle of wild jungle nature! Looking forward to meeting you! See you at the Kyoto Lodge at Kinabalu Farm!
The area is loved for its lush green growth, abundant water with its many waterfalls, and picturesque scenery. Not to mention it's fabulous beaches. Please take note that we are in the middle of the jungle. Inner Pocket Nature Sanctuary is filled with the most extraordinary array of birds, animals & insects. This is on the middle of virgin wild nature. For some this could be frightening. So be prepared. Bring walking shoes, insect repellent, a torch & a raincoat. You never know!

A quaint Balinese style timber cabin, with intricately carved panels and large glass windows, looking out over a sub tropical rain forest vista. Be surrounded by native flora and fauna and the sounds of rain forest birds in this private little forest cabin.
The Forest Cabin is a natural hideaway, perfect for couples, or singles, wanting privacy in natural beauty. The timber, carved cabin with large glass windows, is nestled within the Australian sub tropical rain forest, in the hinterland of Byron Bay. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, a beautiful, unique outside bathroom to bathe and shower under the stars. Simple luxury. There is NO MOBILE RECEPTION, however, you have the use of the landline phone (honesty system). WIFI is available for Internet access such as responding to emails or for messenger or just searching the web. NOTE: due the limited amount of GB and the satellite wifi guests are not to download movies, watch movies, watch any sort of videos or Youtube videos via the internet. This will use up the limited GB per month and the next guest will not have access to the internet. Thank you. The eco, composting, squat loo has a forest view and is situated outside in a small out house not far from the outdoor bathroom. There is a wooden ladder to walk up to access the composting loo. The cabin has a TV for watching movies only as there is no television reception. We suggest to bring DVDs with you or you can use some of the Bali DVDs provided in the cabin (some may not be in great working order as sometimes the case with Bali DVDs). There is a small selection of books to read also. The water in the cabin is rain water, triple filtered and is suitable for drinking, bathing and cooking. This setting is ideal for nature lovers and those who wish to retreat in nature for a quiet, peaceful getaway. The cabin is not a party house. To keep the grounds neat and tidy we have a grounds maintenance person come each Tuesday, starting round 9am, for around 3 hours (this includes time spent at another house further down the road and ending up at the cabin from around 11am - 12noon approximately). Also each Tuesday fortnight we have a gardener that comes to work on the gardens around the cabin working from 9am - 4pm (most of this time is spent around the main house further down the road and some time around the cabin). Guests are reminded that this property is in the middle of the rainforest. In the forest there is an abundance and diverse range of native fauna (frogs, wallabies, spiders, lizards, goannas and other native fauna). Please tread carefully when you are walking around outside and at night please always take a torch with you.
The cabin is situated on a Multiple Occupancy property which is owned by local musicians, artists and yoga teachers. Each of the houses, on the 75 acre property, is situated so that they are private from one another and blend in with the natural surrounds. Not far away you will find Minyon Falls in the Nightcap National Park. Great for bush walking, viewing the falls from the top, having picnics or just chilling out in nature. If you feel like heading to the beach, you have the choice of Brunswick Heads with a long, beautiful beach and stunning river or Byron Bay with a variety of amazing beaches to choose from. If you feel like browsing through some interesting towns and villages, visit Mullumbimby or Bangalow Villages. Beaches, villages and towns are within a 35 minute radius.

This original timber and sandstone fishermans cottage on the waters edge of beautiful Mackerel Beach in Pittwater, has been lovingly restored into a secluded beach and bush hideaway and couple's retreat.
Perfectly positioned, the Little Black Shack’s north east aspect lets you wake to the sunrise over Palm Beach headland and enjoy the sun all day long. The sea breeze keeps the shack cool during summer whilst the tree-lined ridge of Ku-ring-gai National Park behind, shelters it from the cold southerly winds during winter. With its rustic, hand built sandstone open fireplace, comfy leather chairs, soft cowhide rugs and full-length window box seat, The Little Black Shack is also a cosy winter cabin. There are two bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Just metres from the water, every room features windows and French or barn doors opening out to uninterrupted views of Mackerel Beach, Pittwater, Barrenjoey Headland, Palm Beach and beyond. The interior features recycled and hand made furniture with an eclectic mix of nautical antiques and collectables gathered from travels around the world and forages along the beach. The lounge, dining and gourmet chef’s kitchen are open plan. The lounge features a hand built sandstone fireplace and a floor to ceiling bookcase with an extensive library. A large flat screen TV, Blue-ray DVD and the latest Bose surround sound Wi-Fi stereo are hidden behind the doors of a rustic handmade cupboard with Bose speakers in the outdoor areas and Bose Wi-Fi systems in each bedroom. The window seat spanning the full length of the front of the lounge room, is the perfect spot to relax with a good book, chill out with your own playlist, take a nap or gaze out of any one of the 6 windows overlooking the stunning beaches and bay. The kitchen features concrete bench tops, wooden cupboards made from the original floorboards, a large farmhouse sink, commercial grade cookware, microwave, Ilve gas stove and electric oven, perfect for creating your favourite meals. Two French doors open from the kitchen/dining area onto a small covered balcony and bar area overlooking the water. Once you are here you will never want to leave - which is why the gourmet chef’s kitchen comes equipped with everything you need and a fully stocked pantry. You can also help yourself to the fresh herbs in the kitchen garden. The original sandstone bathroom features a beautiful stone bath and a large copper shower with amazing water views. The main bedroom has a generous king bed and access to a private lawn and garden. The rustic hand made bed has loads of comfy down pillows and is elevated to take full advantage of the water views! The second bedroom is reached by a short set of sandstone steps in front of the house. This cosy room features a super comfortable hand made queen bed. The room is built from the original sandstone, lined with timber and has a soft cowhide rug on the floor. It also enjoys stunning panoramic water views through the window and barn door. It has its own private stone terrace overlooking the water and a grassed area shaded by a large Frangipani tree, with a hammock to relax in ... Both rooms are beautifully furnished with cowhide rugs, antique cupboards and chests of drawers and the bedding is 100% linen. There is a large north facing sun deck at the front of the shack and a covered terrace and outdoor hand-built sandstone kitchen. Featuring a wood fired oven and charcoal BBQ/fireplace this space is perfect for all day alfresco living, dining, cooking and entertaining. There is an outdoor shower set amongst the trees half way down the front steps leading to a secluded sandy beach at low tide. Here you can rinse off after swimming or shower under the stars on warm summer evenings. The cottage is surrounded by native coastal gardens and terraced grass level areas overlooking the water and shaded by huge Frangipani trees. The Little Black Shack is completely eco friendly. Windows, barn doors and French doors allow the sea breeze to circulate and cool the house in summer while the open sandstone fireplace warms the house during winter using firewood collected from fallen trees off the property. Rainwater is harvested for bathing and washing which is recycled to irrigate the main garden. The grounds also feature a small kitchen garden to provide you with fresh herbs. When it comes to the interiors, if we couldn’t find it second hand, we made it by hand, from recycled, repurposed and found materials. Candles and oil lanterns are provided for alternative lighting.
Whilst we’re only a mile from the mainland and Palm Beach, we might as well be a million miles away … Getting here is part of the experience. Once you board ‘Myra’ the old timber ferry at Palm Beach you leave the city and your worries behind. The Little Black Shack is reached via a short walking track at the end of the beach or via the rocks along the beach at low tide. Once you are here, close the gates, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the view, the peace and the quiet. Relax and unwind on Mackerel's beautiful main sandy beach or enjoy swimming or snorkelling right out the front on a secluded section of the beach, fishing off the rocks below, kayaking or boating in the crystal clear protected waters of Pittwater. The surrounding National Park offers some incredible bush walks to secluded beaches, The Basin Lagoon, ancient Aboriginal carving sites and incredible lookouts. Take a leisurely stroll along Mackerel Beach or through the valley behind it where you will find friendly locals (including wallabies and bush turkeys) and some original fibro beach cottages. You can also hire your own 'tinny' from Palm Beach to explore Pittwater’s many coves and bays by water. If you feel like heading back to the mainland, the old timber ferry ‘Myra’ leaves on the hour and is just a 10-minute ride to Palm Beach wharf. From here you can make the trek up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse, walk to Palm Beach, dine at the local restaurants, bars and cafes or browse the shops, galleries and Palm Beach markets (on set days). You can also head into Avalon village, just 5 minutes down the road by car. Here you can explore the many shops, restaurants and bars, visit the surf beach or take in a movie.

The studio is a short walk to great cafes in the village if breakfast out is your your preference. We have a little dog, a cat and a few chickens. None of which have access to the apartment or garden with the exception of Jemima (cat) who needs the occasional reminder that the space was not created for her! We are around most of the time and happy to chat about local must do’s or leave you in peace, your holiday your choice.
Beautiful Blackheath sits at the top of the Blue Mountains less than a 2hr drive from Sydney. Stunning vistas surprise at the end of Govett’s Leap and Evans Look Out Rds, both a short drive from the village. Welcome to Bushies Love Shack. The naming of the love shack came about upon purchasing the property some 6 years ago. Fay's father, at the time 90 years of age, and his girlfriend, 91 years of age, automatically named it the Love Shack as they envisaged, once renovated, them sitting in bed, playing cards and taking in the view and so the name stuck. In keeping with the name, we have created a luxurious, romantic space for two.
Bushies Love Shack is perfect for that romantic getaway or for simple peace and quiet. It includes a queen size bed, private bathroom with luxury bath robes, kitchen with dishwasher, coffee machine and egg & bacon breakfast supplies and complimentary bottle of Feathertop wine and nibbles on arrival. The biggest draw card which the shack has to offer is our beautiful outdoor bath .The bath is copper lined and fits two comfortably its one way to relax and sip on your wine and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the shack, also we provide you bath bombs and salts to help you enjoy the experience. The shack is decked out with high end interior and decorations not forget to mention the bed is to die for with its superb sheets etc certainly a 5 star plus As much as we love babies and children . PLEASE NOTE As mentioned we have created this beautiful shack for couples only We STRICTLY will not accept booking for additional children or (Website hidden by Airbnb) save your disappointment please do not enquire.

Unique hand-built Lodge and environmental retreat on 8 private acres of Blue Mountains wilderness. The Cave is 20 metres high, wide and deep; similar size and shape to a small shell of the Opera house (with better acoustics!) 3 night min LongWeekEnds. Sunset checkout available; please call Mark after you have made your booking.
Hatter's Hideout transects a deep mountain gorge, with lush cool temperate rainforest to natural bonsai in wind swept heath; to woodland with panoramic views across Mount Wilson and Wollemi National Park, the World Heritage Area and home of the prehistoric wollemi pine. THE CAVE Set amidst towering escarpments, the Hat Cave is a huge sandstone cathedral, sculpted by nature to provide an ideal bushland retreat for modern cave dwellers (troglodytes). The natural acoustics are a musicians dream. NB Due to a minority of irresponsible guests who have ignored my requests to minimise volume, speakers are now limited to re-chargeable portable speakers ONLY...Speaker systems that require 240v power are not permitted. It has been carefully developed using minimal impact construction and facilities to ensure the environment remains as pristine as possible for future generations to enjoy. FACILITIES Camp fire with kindling and 20kg wood. Gas barbecue; ice box; tables and chairs. Solar powered lights for reading, cooking etc.; candles for intimacy. Rainwater on tap for cooking and washing up. Kitchen sink, utensils and basic cooking condiments. Composting toilet. First Aid Kit. The 25 metre high arched opening faces north west with wind and weather protection by a grove of coachwood trees and 30 metre tall carved rock columns known locally as "pagodas", a predominant feature in the primitive landscape. LODGE A spacious mountain lodge with 3 Bedrooms and Loft, hand crafted in a classic Australian style featuring artistic decor and views over the spectacular Wollangambe Wilderness and Wollemi World Heritage Area from most rooms. BOOKINGS INCLUDE An interpretive “Bush Walk & Talk” to the Cave, to introduce you to the environs, facilities and “minimal impact” philosophy of Hatters Hideout. Exclusive use of the lodge that sleeps 8 adults in 3 king bedrooms (or 1 king and 2 twin) plus a large loft with 2 "king single" beds. There are 2 lounge rooms, 2 bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen, wilderness views and a 4+ star luxury rating. Private use of the Cave, which is a 10 minute / 500 metre walk. It is well equipped for a group picnic or party and can sleep 10 in natural luxury with camping gear provided, but you would need to be keen campers in the winter months... gas for the BBQ and 20kg of firewood for the campfire are provided. It is ideally designed for groups of up to 20 (some may camp in the cave!) to have exclusive use of a unique bushland property with outstanding natural facilities.
The ever changing dramatic spectacle of the sky over the wilderness still excites me after having lived here for most of 35 years.
