The house is 10 minutes from the airport, and 5-10 minute drive to the convention center and other downtown venues. The Neighborhood is a gentrifying and eclectic.
  • Josh's home is normally beautiful, but around Christmas it's nearly magical. On top of that, he's a great communicator and quick to respond to any questions. This is the second time we've stayed at his place, and we hope to return when we're next in the Louisville area. Thank you for an easy and comfortable stay!

  • Beautiful house and room with convenient location!

  • The pictures do not do this room justice. Beautiful Suite. The bed was very comfortable. Room was beautifully decorated. Five star for sure. I would highly recommend and will try to stay here again whenever I’m in town. Josh is a very responsive host.

  • Josh was great to work with. I booked this room for a gentleman visiting from Kenya. He was overwhelmed and delighted with his accommodations. It was conveniently located close to our office. I've already recommended to out of town guests coming in two weeks. Thanks Josh, I think we will be chatting frequently.

  • A magnificent house with antiques and collection of old magazines. The room is at the end of the corridor so the guest can have good privacy. The bed is very comfortable. A great place to stay.

  • Transported to another time! The furnishings and atmosphere were wonderful but not cloyingly overdone. Very classy! Easy to check in and out. The bed was magnificent! One of the best we've ever had the pleasure of sleeping in.

    Sharon2018-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place centrally located to most neighborhoods in town. The check in process was easy and josh was a great communicator through text. The room we stayed in was awesome. Super clean and luxurious. I would definitely stay here again.

  • This place is simply amazing. The attention to detail makes me think Martha Stewart designed and decorated the suite. This will be my place to stay every time I’m in or passing through Louisville. Well done!

Your private studio apartment on the 3rd floor of our home is a great space in a wonderful location (easy access to all of Louisville but in the charm of Old Lou). There is a full size bed tucked into a nook to provide you with sleeping comfort while the rest of the apartment is bright and light. There is a complete kitchen with all of the necessary cooking utensils, a claw foot tub in the spacious bathroom and a couch that folds out into a bed that could accommodate another person.
The indoor staircase leads you from the front porch to your Louisville getaway. You can relax on the couch and watch tv (local HD channels and Netflix), take a relaxing bubble bath in the claw foot tub, look at downtown from the front windows, cook a meal in the full kitchen, catch up on reading in the cozy bed, hang out on the front porch to enjoy a cocktail or, if you must, get some work done from the comfort of the table/desk. We have all you need here in the studio! The hardwood floors are smooth and clean, the rugs are collected from around the world. There are glassware options so you can pour your drink just so, and if you forget your shampoo there’s some on hand. Anticipating your needs is what motivates me...try me!
Old Louisville is the largest collection of Victorian homes in the United States. The architecture is phenomenal and the people are interesting. There is an eclectic mix in Old Lou and we hope that you can walk around and appreciate what once was and what is. Just blocks from Central Park, St James Court and some local eateries, you can stay in our neighborhood the entire trip or venture to other parts of Louisville as you wish. From here all of Louisville is within reach, but we’re especially close to Downtown and UoL and you can even take a free bus to get to either.
  • The location is great a quick rideshare ride or free bus ride to downtown. The place was very clean and had everything we needed. I ran into Amity in the morning and had a quick conversation, she was very pleasant. I would definitely stay here again when in Louisville!

    Manuel2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stay at Amnitys place it is cute, cozy and close to everything

    Lisa2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • As a first time AirBnB stay, it exceeded my expectations. Amity, is a gracious host and the location and cleanliness of space was top notch. It’ll be hard to stay at another Airbnb with how high amity set the bar!

    Thomas2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute cozy apartment on the 3rd floor of this house. Amity was super responsive and a wonderful host. You have your own entrance to get up the apartment so privacy is easy. You feel like you have the place to yourself. The house is a little over a mile from downtown. It was like a 5 min uber to get down there or like a 25 min walk. We chose to walk a lot because it was such beautiful weather. Great place to stay in Louisville. An awesome bang for your buck

    Matthew2019-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Convenient to all areas of Louisville. Took a tour of a wonderful Victorian Era neighborhood around the corner. The 3rd floor loft space is cute and comfortable with all expected amenities and then some like Netflix/Amazon Prime video access. We received some homemade bourbon chocolate balls from the owners as a little treat, and man were they tasty! A fine place to stay for a single night or multiple.

    Aaron2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Very friendly and helpful host! Always responded to my messages!

    Mykenzie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We were visiting for an event at Central Park, and this was the perfect location. The park was a short walk away and took us through a gorgeous neighborhood (incredible architecture!), and past several delicious restaurants (we loved the Jamaican restaurant, and though we never got a chance to try the African restaurant nearby, it also looked great). The unit we stayed in was very charming, with a bright, clean, and artsy aesthetic. It was the perfect size for me and my boyfriend. Amity has thoughtfully furnished it with the ample seating, table space, and essentials (scissors, first aid kit, a local newspaper with events listed, coffee, towels, etc.) and was very prompt in responding to any questions we had. It was a very lovely space, would recommend!

    Iris2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Amity's apartment is a wonderful home base to explore Louisville! We were in town for a conference, and it was an easy 25 minute walk to the conference center downtown. Lots of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The apartment itself is very cute and quite spacious for a studio. We found it easy to feed ourselves on the days we didn't want to eat out: the kitchen has a stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, and Keurig coffee machine, as well as plates, cups, and silverware. The clawfoot tub in the bathroom is a sweet touch, too! Amity was very communicative and helped us make the most of our time in Louisville. I would certainly stay here again!

  • We enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the area. Free parking was easy to find right out on the street. I arrived at night and was able to navigate safely to the apartment as Josh had the path illuminated with blue lights. The space was comfortable and had everything we needed. Will book again if I ever come back to Louisville!

  • Place wasn’t cleaned after the last guest. Smelly garbage left inside, the bed wasn’t made, used towels in the bathroom, ants in the kitchen and bathroom. If the place was clean I would have loved this place.

  • Great little garden apartment, nice location. No issues, would stay again.

Our home is a three-bedroom, two bath with hardwood floors, LOTS of natural light and LOTS and LOTS of character. We're cool with basic interactions and respect the need for space.

This is our neat and rather fab Victorian house near Central Park in Old Louisville, shared among a few young professionals. We're out of town often, so this is a great place for light & independent travelers. It's comfortable to hang out in, or use as a base to explore from. Note: this room is for rent for no less than 30 days at a time.
This is a room within our 130-year old house at the north end of Old Louisville, directly south of the downtown museum district, and few blocks north of Central Park (close to St James Court). The existing house is actually the remaining top two floors of the 3-story building, the 1st floor of which was converted to a bakery in 1922. The total living space is 2000 sqft. Our place is always undergoing some renovation, but it's 'mostly done,' and quite comfortable. We have a large, fenced back yard, and rooftop deck (best room in the house Spring through Fall). The guest room is private, small but with a 10' ceiling and full-size loft bed; it can accommodate two 'fit' people. The house is shared among several young professionals (in the art/design and culinary fields) with varying schedules; it is unlikely to see us all at the same time. We also have a feist (small dog, in our portraits) who is quite friendly. Nota Bene: we do our best to keep things tidy and put together, but this is our home, and we do have lives within and without -- not all is perfect. We welcome you into our home; please remember that it is that and not a hotel.
Old Louisville is the most densely populated and diverse neighborhood in Louisville. We have the most intact neighborhood of Victorian homes after New York City. Century-old trees and the park nearby make this a lovely place to walk around.
  • Thanks Jeff. Had a great time staying at this place. And want to give a special shout out to you for your hospitality as i had to come to Louisville urgently and you still managed to give fix up the place for me within a day. Thanks alot!

  • I stayed with Jeff and Bess for 2 months and everything was great! The room was cozy and comfortable. Bess and Jeff were awesome hosts and made sure I had everything I needed during my stay. Thank you guys! :)

    Mia2014-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • My host was very good at keeping up communication by email & text. The listing description was pretty accurate. One small thing on that note: though the pictures show it as well lit, most of the time the main rooms were kept pretty dark (granted I was not there during the day, so it was the lighting). The location was super convenient for me. I was attending a conference in downtown and I was able to walk there in 30 minutes. The only thing I hadn't thought of was walking back in the dark. I asked around and people advised against walking in that area for very long after dark. There was a bus route that came by pretty frequently, so I took that and the bus driver was very nice ($1.75 for regular fare). A few things to note for potential future guests: the room is quite small and the ladder up to the bed is quite steep, so just be ready to climb and have both hands on the ladder edges. Otherwise, the room is cute and provides a good nights sleep. If you're a light sleeper, pack some ear plugs because the street outside does get some truck/car traffic. One other noise factor is their adorable but somewhat vocal cat. It wasn't all nights, but I do remember waking up to the sound of the cat yowling for a bit. The cat was very cute though, so forgive and forget. Other things to note: the key transfer was through a housemate and I didn't meet Jeff or Bess. The kitchen is nice and spacious. They were ok with me storing a few things I had brought in the fridge. Wifi worked well, though a little weak when up on the loft/bed. I'd also recommend keeping the door open so the cat doesn't wander in and get up in the bedding.

  • Great spot - just what I was looking for! Pleasant, rapidly gentrifying area. Take a walk to Smoketown and beyond for some variety.

    Bryan2015-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • On the bright side, it was cheap and pretty centrally located and the two housemates I met were both super friendly and welcoming with good restaurant recommendations. (I only saw them briefly in four days; the owners reportedly live in Chicago and only come about once a month.) But the photos make this place look far better than it is. For some reason they took the couch and armchairs out of the living room -- there is just a table there now. The place is rundown with a musty smell, and the only cozy thing about the guest bedroom is its small size. The only window in that room is covered in plastic. The house was on the cold side, though the space heater in the room cranks it up. The bathroom was nice, though. The neighborhood is maybe a bit sketchy at night.

    Laurie2015-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for a month. It's a solid spot. Lots of beautiful historic buildings in the neighborhood. You are centrally located so nothing is more than 2 miles away. The roommates are chill. I'd definitely go back again.

  • Exactly what you need if you are a solo traveler and prefer to spend your time out exploring and not in your room. A great price for a comfy bed!

  • What a great weekend! Needed a place in Louisville to attend the Forecastle Festival and preferred something less hotel-y than the official affiliate hotels of the festival. So thrilled to have found Jeff and Bess's place in old Louisville. To be honest, we stayed busy with the festival and didn't spend a ton of time there, but were very satisfied with the house. The great deck was an especially nice place for having breakfast or a nightcap. Jeff was very helpful and accommodating and the roommates were great, too. We appreciate you all having us and will look at you again next time we are in Louisville.

  • Cute, clean and close to downtown. Wonderful stay for the price!! Rose was easy to work with and made us feel welcome.

    Stacy2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first AirBNB experience and I am worried that Rose has set an unrealistic expectation for any of my ensuing stays! From booking to check-in and check-out, Rose was extremely accommodating and was easily reached. The value of the apartment itself was unreal! So close to everything in Louisville, spacious, safe, secure and very clean. If I ever return to Louisville I would be EXTREMELY disappointed if I didn't stay here again!

    Mike2018-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The space itself was very clean and had anything you might need! Check in was super easy and smooth, and Rose was easy to get in contact with. The neighborhood left much to be desired but is ok if you have a car to get into different areas of town.

  • Anne had a lovely place in a charming location in Old Louisville. This is a great location close enough to attractions on a quiet street. I can't wait to visit again!

  • Our stay was great. Check in was easy, worry free. Luanne was a great host and responded quickly to any questions we had. Comfy beds and cute bathroom. If I had one complaint it would have been to add a chair in the bedroom. Overall perfect for our long weekend.

    April2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I just stayed at this location for our first Air BNB experience. Anne’s communications were prompt and clear. The apartment was very nice, clean, and the air conditioning was on waiting for us (local temperatures were on the warm side for the time we were there). The apartment was well provisioned and there was plenty of local tourist information waiting for us for which we were very appreciative. One of the items contained local restaurants for which we were grateful as we arrived hungry after a long day and well after dinner time. Using the information provided we found a great local Irish Pub in short order. We returned to the apartment fully content with food left over for breakfast the next morning. The other tourist information provided was very helpful as we planned our next couple of days making our way through the Urban Bourbon Trail. I highly recommend this site for those visiting Louisville.

    John2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first experience with AirBnB and it was fantastic! Luanne made everything super easy and comfortable for check-in and was great about responding promptly with any communication. We tried to use the washer and it turned out to be broken. I messaged Luanne about it and she had it fixed and washed our clothes for us by the time we got back to the apartment! The location is in a super cute neighborhood with great architecture. At night you can hear the train whistle, but no other city noises. Everything about the experience was perfect! I would absolutely come back!

    Rachel2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I had a great time staying at Anne's place for our very first visit to Louisville! The place is in an excellent location and was very spacious for the three of us. Anne also provided a binder full of suggestions for sights as well as restaurants and shopping, which we appreciated. She was also very responsive to any of our needs and ensured that we had everything we needed for a fun trip.

Our Carriage House is warm and inviting to guests from all over the world. We are located close to downtown, Central Park, University of Louisville and the Bardstown Road corridor. There are so many unique shops, restaurants, bars, and places to visit close by, and some are walkable in warmer weather. The Carriage House has just undergone a complete renovation from top to bottom - we hope you love it as much as we do! Don’t let the outside fool you - the inside of our home is the treasure!
You will understand the uniqueness of the space the minute you walk in the front door. Our 100 year old former carriage shop is perfectly imperfect! The concrete foundation and super high ceiling lead you up a few steps into a modern, full sized kitchen with 4-burner gas stove/oven and full size refrigerator/freezer for our longer stay guests. The fully refinished hardwoods and glass block window provide for a homey but modern feel. As a longtime chef and restaurateur, I understand the desire for some to cook, even when they get away, so we have tried to stock our kitchen accordingly. But should you require special kitchen items, just ask us ahead of time - chances are I have it for you to use! You will love how the kitchen flows into the main living space, with 16 foot tin ceiling; it's the perfect mesh of industrial and new. The living room has a brand new leather sleeper sofa that is ready to accommodate extra guests or kids traveling with their parents. We provided a new, flat screen 40 inch TV with Roku, but with so much to do around Louisville, you may not have time to turn it on. The master is bright and airy, with a regal queen sized bed and white sheer curtains that are, well, fit for a queen! The "water closet" is separate from the shower and tub area for extra privacy! Speaking of the shower, did we mention that it is a walk-in, all tile, dual head shower? Should you feel like relaxing and winding down your day with a bath, there is a refinished, original claw foot tub to soak in. This thing is huge! Please note, in addition to the 5 steps up into the carriage house, there are 3 steps up for the bathtub and shower access. Looking for another way to unwind? Well, stroll down the hall to our "Book Nook." We have two comfortable leather reading chairs and an entire bookshelf of classics and modern titles to choose from. From the book nook, you have access to our shared courtyard. It is there that you may be greeted by the two real masters of the property, Bronx and Manhattan. Bronx is our special dog who just turned 10 but it still going strong. He survived a cancer scare a few years ago and had his lower jaw removed, but as you will see, he is the happiest dog I have ever known. Manhattan, or Hattie, is the newest addition to our family of rescues. She is soft and gray, but oh so full of life. If you are a dog person, please come out and meet them; if not, that's okay too. Please note that although we are dog people, we cannot allow pets in the carriage house. This if for your pets safety and ours. We don't even let our own dogs in there! Our courtyard has a porch swing and gas grill, although with the changing of weather, there are leaves falling every day, so it is a very rustic space right now, but you are welcome to stroll around. Please note that we have a strict no smoking policy inside the carriage house. You are welcome to smoke on the deck, but please extinguish and dispose of of butts. You will hear a few planes land, church bells or even an occasional train. You’re downtown, it’s urban, soak it in. We have added blackout curtains for the three windows on the sleeping side and added vertical blinds over the super cool glass block windows. There is parking immediately in front of the entrance that is almost always (99% of time) for our guests and it is free at all times. There are never more than a handful of cars on the street here, so parking is always available. Don’t be fooled by the exterior. This home was a commercial operation years and years ago and we have kept that same look and charm. It is industrial and does not draw a lot of attention to itself in its surroundings. But step through that blue door and you WILL be amazed.
There are so many great restaurants and bars nearby. Churchill Downs, 4th Street Live and University of Louisville are a short Uber or Lyft away. Many local spots are walking distance, including Central Park. Always stick to roads and be aware of your surroundings. There are certainly some hot spots that you can walk to: a Rite Aid, a wine bar, a brewery, several restaurants, etc. The warmer the weather, the easier it is to access more places. But everything is a short drive or Lyft ride away as well.
  • This was our first AirBNB experience, and thanks to Doug and Amanda we will be doing it again very soon

They were beautiful and welcome visitors. The location is super convenient to all things downtown and the highway as well. Look forward to staying with them again!

  • Ashley’s is a private, and beautiful space, in the heart of Louisville!

    John2019-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ashley’s old historic Victorian home loft was just as described - spacious, clean, stylish, great location, plenty of street parking, and it turned out that a real bonus was how close it is to Burger Boy (we ate there 2 days in a row - well, once really late at night, and once for brunch - so good!). We would not hesitate for a moment to return if we find ourselves in the Louisville area again. THANK YOU, ASHLEY!

  • Laurie checked in before, during and after our stay. We didn't actually meet but it didn't matter, as all was set up. Louisville is worth exploring and this is a great base for doing so. In fact, we liked the flat so much we probably lazed around it more than we meant to!

    Jeffrey2016-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie's place is comfortable and very well-appointed. The space is much bigger than I expected! Laurie included many thoughtful touches like a sewing kit, spare toiletries, bottled water, and a flashlight. Her neighborhood is quiet and very close to downtown. I would definitely stay here again.

    Kathy2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at 2AM and struggled to get the lock box open. Laurie answered the phone immediately & helped us figure it out even though it was the middle of the night. She also had the apartment stocked with coffee and some bottles of water upon our arrival. Great little place for a quick trip. I will definitely be back if I’m in Louisville again.

    Stephanie2018-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • apartment is exactly how it looks. very beautiful and perfect get away spot. its got a bit cold initially because the heat wasn't working but jim came up and plugged in an external heater which worked just fine. had a good stay overall wanted to stay a day longer but someone had booked before i could extend. i guess its next time then.

    Rayoe2015-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie made it easy to checkin at any time. The apartment is well laid out with notes and labels and is fully stocked with cooking supplies, good books and linens. The two beds are nice and there is a pullout couch if that is more your style. The location is great, about 20-25 minute walk from downtown and many great restaurants. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, away from the traffic noise. For the value it would be hard to beat staying here.

    Chuck2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie was great! She was out of town the weekend I was there, but was incredibly responsive and let me know how to contact her partner who was around in case we needed anything. The apartment itself is gorgeous. Very light and airy -- perfect for a weekend stay. I especially appreciated Laurie's attention to detail -- food and attraction information for guests, as well as added information about the apartment (wifi, cell phone numbers, etc.). This was a fabulous experience, and I highly recommend it for other visitors. An added bonus is that the apartment has a full kitchen with plates and cookware. Laurie also has tea and coffee fixings available. We ate out (as you should in Louisville!) but it was great to have that as an option.

    Rebecca2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful experience in Louisville, thanks to Jim and Laurie! If I am ever in town, I would definitely stay here again. The apartment was just like the pictures and very clean. The hosts went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable, and they even helped me get to a job interview on time. Their location is very convenient for trips downtown and to all of the fun things Louisville offers.

    Kay2015-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Laurie responded very quickly to my stay request and was very warm and helpful throughout. When I needed an ironing board she very quickly told me about one in a closet in the house which was a lifesaver. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meet Laurie in person because she was out that night but everything went very smoothly because she was so on top of it.

  • The place is beautiful and very well kept. It has a nice gathering area on the first floor but we honestly mostly stayed in the kitchen/backyard. There were 9 adults in our group and everyone was comfortable. The location is excellent and the neighborhood beautiful. Any issues were resolved very quickly so never hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

    Jennifer2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Chris’s home is a relaxing and wonderful experience, we found the home clean and very well furnished. The location is perfect if your traveling downtown, it is a quick 5-10 minute drive away. It is a refreshing place to retire at the end of the day or to simply relax.

    Keith2018-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay! This is a beautiful house!

    Jeremy2018-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was probably one of the nicer Airbnb's that I've stayed in. There was a ton of space and it was in a convenient location.

    Alex2019-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay visited for a conference. There’s a bike ride share a block away which made a nice alternative to taking the car. Just a heads up for light sleepers I’m not sure if house is on flight path but I could hear planes over head. Bought some earplugs and slept like a baby. Great value for the size would stay again.

    Errol2018-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing old home in old Louisville. We had two families staying here over the weekend and the four bedrooms were great. The pictures really don’t do the place justice. We will rent again next year for sure. Great location to do everything. Owners responded very quickly to our questions. You will enjoy this small downtown Victorian.

  • If you love the charm of an old house with the touch of modern convenience, you'll love staying here! The woods floor and pocket doors are lovely and you'll enjoy the laundryroom in the apartment! The kitchen has everything you'll need, pots, pans, cups, etc. You'll appreciate how clean the apartment is! I was traveling with with a person who brings their own sheets and a can of Lysol, neither were used as the apartment was so clean! The location was great too! Not far from places to eat but also walking distance to a lovely park, were you can go just to relax or enjoy Shakespeare in the Park in the summer months. Will and Emily were great hosts! Access to the apartment was a breeze. They left ideas of where to eat and also left the kitchen stocked for that morning cup of coffee! As first time users of Airbnb, this was a great experience. This is a place I would love to stay again!

    Donna2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, great stay. Really liked it and all that... But what I really wanna talk about are the hardwood floors. My guess is that the majority of the places has beautifully refurbished original hardwood floors. I’ve never seen such awesome designs and accents along the borders and corners in hardwood floors before. Someone did some fantastic work. The owners really take pride in their place. The only negative is now my fiancée has about a thousand more designs ideas, that we’ll never get to implement. Ha! Do yourself a favor and stay here.

    Taylor2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely adorable home that is sparkling clean and nicely appointed. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

    Hayden2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing space! I rented William's space for my parents when they came to visit and it was a great experience! I went with them to check in and it was a simple set up and super user friendly. The house itself was even nicer than the pictures show! Such a beautiful home that's been furnished perfectly. All the amenities that you could ask for have been provided and the host even provided some excellent suggestions for local places to eat. I'll definitely been looking for William's place the next time my parents come to visit!

Lots of love goes into making this the perfect home for your Derby City adventures. Vertigo has the boho vibe you'd expect from a national food & travel writer's space, and as avid travelers and one of Airbnb's top superhosts (125+ 5-star reviews in a row) we know the details that make for an amazing stay so look for super comfy furnishings + fun extras.
***Featured as part of Apartment Therapy's House Tour: A Sprawling 132-Year-Old Renovated Victorian Is Filled With All Our Favorite Details (And 8 Fireplaces)*** This is a lovely, sunny top floor flat overlooking your corner of Old Louisville, a historic, residential neighborhood that's a super quick drive to top restaurants and other Louisville adventures. It's a comfy, livable space designed by a lifestyle writer and feels immediately like home. Guests have called it enchanting, compared it to a Parisian atelier -- and have been known to book a return trip while they're still here. Please read the reviews (they're all five-star) because our guests say it best. You're staying in part of our home, not someone's 'investment property' (you know, original Airbnb) and we dreamed up Vertigo from scratch, inspired by our own wanderlust. You'll find treasures from our jaunts, and unique personality. It's more than a place to sleep; it becomes part of your memorable Louisville experience. As travelers ourselves (and we've lived up here for many weeks ourselves!), we've made sure you'll have what you need – from a sparkling clean bath stocked with plush towels and luscious amenities to a comfy bed made up with heirloom quality linens. And while Louisville ordinance doesn't allow Airbnb hosts to provide food or drink, you'll get your first breakfast on us at a local cult-favorite doughnut shop. Also: personalized recommendations from your host, a writer for local and national outlets immersed in Louisville's dining and drinks culture. sᴛᴀʏ ᴀ ᴡʜɪʟᴇ *** Looking for a longer stay? Check out our sister property, Little Carriage House on the Alley! https://www.airbnb.com/h/littlecarriagehouse *** ALL the DETAILS Now then. With 738 square feet altogether, here's what to expect: sʟᴇᴇᴘ + ᴄʜɪʟʟ A roomy, light-filled living/bedroom has a super comfy queen sized Tuft & Needle bed and linens from Red Land Cotton, plus a big (SO comfy!) chaise sofa and chair and Roku TV. Original hardwood floors and exposed brick and rafters make for a warm and welcoming space. A funky old wardrobe (we picked up from our favorite restaurant when they closed) provides space for your things. *** ᴇᴀᴛ, ᴅʀɪɴᴋ, ʙᴇ ᴍᴇʀʀʏ A dining room that's open to the kitchen with a farmhouse-style table (that does double duty as a work desk). By the window is a vintage rolling bar cart with a Crosley record player and stack of vinyl and a small bar stocked with shaker, glasses, and such. #justaddbourbon *** ᴄᴏᴏᴋ A kitchen under the eaves complete with a vintage stove, ikea mini-sink, small retro-style fridge and microwave, toaster, coffee pot, and good quality cooking staples. There's a set of cookware and high quality, sharp knives, plus dishes and cutlery. We lived here while renovating our house, so you can be sure it's got what you need! *** ᴡᴀsʜ ᴜᴘ A bright, clean, bathroom with step-in shower and a cocktail ledge. Just kidding, it's a niche for shampoo, but hey, no judging if you like showerbeer. :) We provide delicious toiletries from Love, Beauty & Planet, and the good toilet paper and Kleenex because: #priorities. Also little extras like make up remover, cotton swabs, and lotion. A couple of fresh white robes, and your own slippers await for even more comfort. *** ʜᴀɴɢ ᴏᴜᴛ A small balcony that overlooks our courtyard (where you're also free to chill!) and the Carriage House along with neighboring homes and businesses, with downtown Louisville's skyline a mile away. Not for the vertiginous! *** ᴍᴜsᴛ ʟᴏᴠᴇ ᴅᴏɢs We have two dogs. You will hear them bark but we discourage extracurricular barking when we're home (and we're not the stay-out-late type;). Truffle is a senior Pomeranian and Cassius Thunderpaws (aka Cash) is Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd bundle of exuberant love who wants nothing more than to meet you. Both available for cuddles! Our Carriage House across the courtyard is also dog-friendly so you may see a traveling pup. >>Bringing your own puppers? Yay! We're big fans of dog people and we'd love for you to bring your dog (that's just ONE, please, and that's not negotiable). We may be able to lend you a crate and will provide a doggie welcome kit. BUT: we require you check *before* booking and tell me about your dog (don't worry, NO size limit or breed restriction!). I'll send you our house rules for pups and ask you to agree before proceeding with booking. But first, please know they MUST be able to climb the stairs; for your safety and your dog's, we CAN'T have guests carrying a squirming sentient being up the very steep steps. The stairs at the Carriage House are much less iffy, so please consider that if these will be a problem. *** ᴏʟᴅ ʜᴏᴜsᴇ ʟᴏᴠᴇ This old house was built in 1887. We worked really (really!) hard on renovating the space but it's not perfect, and that's not what we're after. We love the character of old houses, and if you do too, we'll get along just fine. ***** THERE WILL BE RULES We don't have a ton of rules but we mean business on all of them. This is our home and we've worked incredibly hard on it and ask that you respect it, as well as the neighborhood that supported us when we won our rental license. There's no smoking (of anything) or vaping in Vertigo, on the balcony, or in the courtyard – anywhere on the property, for that matter. We are so very strict on that! Smoking = leaving. Registered guests only, and we mean that too. You've been vetted by Airbnb and I'm sure your friends are lovely, but I don't know them, and this is our home, not a place for you to host a gathering. Yes, that means even for an hour. And hi, that means inside Vertigo and in our private courtyard too. Do note we have a Nest cam that captures comings and goings on the property. If you're traveling with a dog we require that you contact us to ask for and agree to the pet rules *before* booking. You'll find we're very chill so long as you observe these house rules. ***** Party of 3? Vertigo can be a three-guest space but because of the stairs we limit younger ones to ages 12 and up. The third person gets the comfy couch, which is in the same room as the bed. ***** WANT MORE? Still reading? Awesome! Come check out more pictures and Inspiration on Insta or f-b at Vertigo Louisville.
We're in Old Louisville, in a historic, urban, primarily residential neighborhood called Limerick that's walking distance to downtown (20-30 minutes, depending on where you're headed). The amazing St. James Court, and Central Park (free summer Shakespeare shows!) are a short walk away. This is the largest concentration of Victorian homes in the country, and is a historic preservation district. Basically, you can walk around and just ogle mansions to your heart's content. You're minutes by car from Louisville's amazing restaurants and bars, in the heart of a diverse residential area that's beginning to transform into a destination in its own right. What does our diversity mean for you? You'll likely see people with different life experiences and resources than you – as someone with discretionary travel money – will have. Here's a look at what we've got nearby (15 minutes or less on foot) >A great family-owned small craft beer brewery at dog-friendly and laid back Old Louisville Brewery >Crazy good doughnuts and excellent local coffee at the awesome North Lime shop (first breakfast there is free on us!:) >The fabulous Bar Vetti with cocktails and sumptuous Italian fare that the local restaurant critic calls Louisville's best food. >Six Ten Magnolia, the flagship restaurant from James Beard award winning Edward Lee (who you may have seen on Mind of a Chef or in the New York Times). And then all sorts of cool little nooks and crannies I can't wait to tell you about. Old Louisville isn't on the radar of many travel writers so you can really stumble across some cool off the beaten track places -- with the right guide ;)
  • Great spot to stay at. Very close to a lot of bars, restaurants, and tourists spots. We enjoyed our stay. The house had everything accessible to us that we needed. Very cute and neat little place. The stairs were a challenge but she does warn you several times prior to renting. Once you make it to the top it’s a pretty nice view. Place had a lot of helpful info and cute little personal touches. We felt very comfortable and relaxed on our down time. We had a good time here touring the bourbon trail. Definitely recommend. Dana was very helpful and always making sure to check and see if we needed anything. Loved it.

  • If you're going to Louisville, this is the place you want to stay. The apartment is unique and felt like home as soon as we walked in. Dana and Brian are great hosts who bent over backwards to make sure we felt welcome in their space and in their city. On top of all that, can't beat the location of this place. It's basically a 10-minute drive/ride to almost anywhere we wanted to go in Louisville.

  • Vertigo was perfect for our stay in Louisville. Clean, quaint, comfortable and stylish. Dana really takes the experience to the next level with her thoughtful touches, excellent communication and local recommendations. Would definitely recommend staying at vertigo when in Louisville!

  • I had a great stay at vertigo. My host was extremely pleasant, helpful, and easy to communicate with. The apartment was clean and pleasant. I especially appreciated the coffee and and small breakfast items. Thank you dana.

  • Absolutely loved the space that was created from an attic! It is warm and welcoming while whimsical, delightful and thoughtfully created. The thoughtful touches are everywhere and reflect the owner's travel experience and local knowledge, which is shared with the guests in many tasteful and informative formats (chalkboard, guestbook, flyers and pamphlets, etc). Staying was a delight. Leaving was not! Thank you a million!

    Patrick2018-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Above and beyond what you would expect from an Airbnb, Vertigo is a beautiful, homely space thoughtfully designed by Dana and Brian. On top of a homemade guidebook full of ideas, Dana and Brian were also forthcoming with suggested activities and great dining opportunities. They couldn’t have been more welcoming and made their home feel like our own. We also enjoyed meeting and cuddling their two dogs, who were both calm and friendly. Without a doubt, the best Airbnb we have ever experienced.

Cozy up over a former stable at our 1887 home in Old Louisville near downtown. Lots of love & attention go into making Little Carriage House on the Alley the perfect home for your Derby City adventures. The bohemian studio-ish space has all the design-forward touches you'd expect from a national lifestyle writer, and you'll have access to inside tips from your host - I've written about Louisville's food and bourbon scene for 10 years! **This space was featured on design site Apartment Therapy**
This is your own four walls in a studio style flat over a former stable in Old Louisville, an intriguing, historic and primarily residential neighborhood that's a super quick drive to top restaurants and other adventures in Louisville. Inspired by our own world travels we created this space from scratch to be a comfy and livable space for travelers looking for something a little edgier. You're staying in part of our home, not someone's 'investment property,' and it feels immediately personal. It's more than a place to crash; Little Carriage House is a memorable part of your Louisville experience. *** oh no, your dates are booked? Try other our listing at https://www.airbnb.com/h/vertigolouisville *** Now then. With 600+ square feet altogether, here's what to expect: SLEEP AND CHILL A roomy, light-filled living/bedroom has a super comfy queen sized Tuft & Needle bed and high-quality linens (that's so important!) and a blue velvet small sofa and ottoman you will want to Instagram immediately. Roku TV comes preloaded with Netflix. Exposed, limewashed by hand brick, and touches like vintage 2x4s as trim make for a rustic/industrial vibe; and landed this space on home design site Apartment Therapy. [Look up "A Sprawling 132-Year-Old Renovated Victorian Is Filled With All Our Favorite Details (And 8 Fireplaces)"!] A small rack with hangers provides space for your things. There's a window unit AC in here to keep things cool. ***** EAT, DRINK, BE MERRY A small dining room that's open to the kitchen has a vintage dining table (that does double duty as a work desk) and shelving crafted of reclaimed Kentucky horse farm fencing. The battered, beaten wood floor planks are original. Another window unit AC in here cools this area. ***** COOK The little kitchen is complete with full size stove, an amazing vintage farm sink, and full size fridge. Dishes are DIY here (as in no dishwasher) and you'll find dishware, cookware including cutlery, a toaster, and a coffee pot. ***** WASH UP A VERY compact bathroom with equally compact (I mean it, it's teeny!) step-in shower. Let's talk about this. Have you been in an airplane bathroom? Ok, now imagine shoehorning a shower in that. It's hard to dress in there without opening the door (to the kitchen, though you still have pricacy because that can't be seen from the living/bedroom). Please believe me when I tell you it's probably the tiniest bathroom you've ever been in. A standard-sized adult male did live here for years and managed, but I want you to be prepared. ***** HANG OUT A small balcony overlooks our courtyard (where you're also free to chill in the seating area or whip up dinner on the Weber). This is city living so you'll also see a parade of neighbor's back yards. ***** MUST LOVE DOGS We have two dogs. You may hear them bark in the courtyard but we discourage extracurricular barking. Truffle is a senior Pomeranian and Cassius Thunderpaws (aka Cash) is Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd bundle of exuberant love who wants nothing more than to meet you. Both available for cuddles! I also offer an Airbnb Experience starring Cash - ask for details! Take note: Our other dog-friendly Airbnb, Vertigo Louisville, shares the courtyard so you may see a pup who's staying with other guests. Bringing your own puppers? Yay! We're big fans of dog people and we'd love for you to bring your dog (that's just ONE, please). We may (possibly) be able to lend you a crate and will provide a doggie welcome kit. BUT: we do require that you check with me *before* booking and tell me about your dog (don't worry, NO size limit or breed restriction!). I'll send you our special house rules for pups and ask you to agree before proceeding with booking. Please note - until you've asked and agreed to the rules, don't use instant book or we can decline the bookings. ***** OLD HOUSE LOVE This old stable was built in 1887 and later converted to a garage with this flat above it.At one time it was a woodworker's shop (and honestly, in 132 years who knows what else?) We worked really (really!) hard on renovating the space but it's not perfect, and that's not what we're after. We love the character of quirky old spaces and if you do too, we'll get along just fine. ***** WHAT'S IT MEAN TO STAY IN A CARRIAGE HOUSE IN THE CITY? This flat is above our garage, so guess what that means? Yep, we open the garage every weekday morning before work. Between that and old windows overlooking a fairly busy street, light sleepers may prefer something in a quieter area. We've slept here quite a bit and been fine, but if you're used to a quiet country area you'll notice the city soundscape. Also, the whole 'On the Alley' name? Yeah. It's on an alley. Know your comfort level with watching daily urban life unfold outside your window before booking. Next door is an auto body garage; they're great neighbors, but the cinderblock building isn't really part of the attraction here. I suggest looking out the other windows at the gorgeous 1860s church across the street. ***** THERE WILL BE RULES We don't have a ton of rules but we mean business on all of them. This is our home and we've worked incredibly hard on it and ask that you respect it, as well as the neighborhood that supported us when we got our rental license. There's no smoking (of anything) in Little Carriage House *or* on the balcony – anywhere on the property, for that matter. We are so very strict on that! Smoking = leaving. Registered guests only, and we mean that too. You've been vetted by Airbnb and I'm sure your friends are lovely, but I don't know them, and this is our home, not a place for you to host a gathering. Do note we have a Nest cam that will capture all comings and goings on the property. If you're traveling with a dog we require that you contact us to ask for and agree to the pet rules *before* booking. You'll find we're very chill so long as you observe these house rules. ***** WANT MORE? Still reading? Awesome! Come find us on Insta or F B at Vertigo Louisville or look for # littlecarriagehouseonthealley We have the conditional use permit and license required from Louisville Metro. We're also the OG Airbnb, as in this is our home, not a place run by an absent owner or management company. If you need anything, I'll pop out my back door and be there in one minute to help. *****
Here's a look at what we've got nearby (15 minutes or less on foot) ...A great family-owned small craft beer brewery at dog-friendly and laid back Old Louisville Brewery ...Crazy good doughnuts and excellent local coffee at the awesome North Lime shop (first breakfast there is free on us!:) ...The fabulous Bar Vetti with cocktails and sumptuous Italian fare that the local restaurant critic calls Louisville's best food. ...Six Ten Magnolia, the flagship restaurant from James Beard award winning Edward Lee (who you may have seen on Mind of a Chef or in the New York Times). It's one of Food & Wine's Top Forty Restaurants so book ahead! ...And then all sorts of cool little nooks and crannies I can't wait to tell you about. Old Louisville isn't on the radar of many travel writers so you can really stumble across some cool off the beaten track places -- with the right guide ;)
  • The carriage house was cute and worked great for my daughter and I traveling back to campus following a summer internship in KY. It was very clean and plenty of space for the 2 of us. We had no issues with parking on the street nearby and Dana's suggestions for eating out and activities were greatly appreciated.

    Cyndi2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is wonderful! Dana has done a fantastic job turning this carriage house into a beautiful and relaxing place to stay while in Louisville. The house is amazing and we really loved hanging out there. Dana is also a wonderful and friendly host - willing to offer tips and local recommendations that were always a hit. We would definitely stay there again if we find ourselves in Louisville. Thanks for a great stay!

    Candace2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Well let's see, where do I start? I guess the best review I can give is that we decided on an impromptu stay at the Carriage House at the end of our trip after staying 2 nights at Dana's other location, Vertigo, the previous week. Everything you can ask for in an Airbnb will be included in your stay here. From the decor, provisions, and extra small touches you will be hard-pressed to find a better place to stay anywhere - much less Louisville.

    Richmond2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • The reason I booked an Airbnb in Louisville is because I'm moving there from Brooklyn in a couple of weeks for work and was in town (for the very first time!) to look for a place to live. My only criteria in booking a place were that it be affordable and dog-friendly; I really could have ended up just about anywhere. After staying an entire week (and an extra night, even!) I cannot overstate how lucky I was to have booked with Dana at the Carriage House. The space is thoughtful, comfortable and adorable; the suggestions for things to do are spot-on and the neighborhood has some true gems; my dog Georgia found a new best bud in Cash. For me, though ... a stressed out Louisville novice and future Louisvillian ... the best part of my stay was having the perfect host for my first time there. I certainly sought out much more advice than the average guest and having access to a literal expert on Louisville turned out to be invaluable to me. But anyone at all will see that Dana loves her home, the Carriage House, Vertigo, Old Louisville, the city of Louisville, and everything that they have to offer. Most importantly, it truly feels like she wants you to love them all, too ... and makes it super easy for you to do so!

    Daniel2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! We stayed a weekend; and wish we could’ve stayed longer. The apartment’s description is accurate. From the moment we walked into the gate, we loved the charm of the place. The place was clean and organized; easy to find things, too; adorable decorations and the bed was so comfortable. I was hesitant about the bathroom quarters because of the description on the Airbnb site; because of my size. But, I did not feel claustrophobic at all. Water was very hot! Dana had neighborhood suggestions for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. She communicated through email, changes or tidbits that so there were no surprises. The neighborhood is going through gentrification and this 1887 carriage house is an asset to this part of Louisville. We will be back!

    Mila2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Of your in Louisville you should stay at this place. Very nice And clean apartment and Dana, her husband and obviously Cash (their dog, unfortunately we didn’t meet their 2nd dog) are great hosts. Great tips, flexible on check in time and easily reachable for questions. Definitely recommend this place!

  • The Little Carriage House was a treat to stay in! It's in a great location, the room is appointed very well and is unique. The hosts are very friendly and readily available - you won't regret staying here.

  • This was a great stay! The space is absolutely gorgeously designed and has all of the little touches that make it seem homey. Dana was clear and available for any questions I had. I had a wonderful experience!

  • Nice neighborhood and very convenient to get into and out of downtown. We rode our bikes to many attractions in and around town. The house was nice and as described. Also super easy and convenient parking which was very nice to have. The guys gave a us a quick tour and left us alone to relax for the remainder of the weekend. I would definitely recommend this listing!

  • My husband and I were in town for a concert. We've been renting condos in Florida for nearly 15 years, and we liked this one better than any other. This apartment was so inviting, very well stocked and we'll decorated. There was a safe and calming spirit about it. Every piece of furniture and decor seemed to be chosen with care. I felt that the owners wanted their guests to feel welcomed. This will be the first place I check the next time I visit Louisville.

    Tina2017-09-20T00:00:00Z

  • Jeff & Linda are two of the warmest, kindest, most hospitable & most generous people I have ever met. Their house is GORGEOUS, very comfortable & extremely well located. Staying at Jeff & Linda's was a joy, truly, & made my trip to Louisville extra special. I HIGHLY recommend this accommodation folks. One of the best experience i've had thru AirBnB to date. Thanks Jeff & Linda! & see you next time!!!

    Ariel2017-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • My mom and I loved staying here! We stayed for 3 nights and felt right at home. The house was so beautiful and Jeff and his wife were great! Their dog Callie was super sweet as well! They literally thought of everything from toiletries to snacks to brochures about various places in Louisville. We had the entire upstairs to ourselves (two bedrooms, private bathroom, and mini kitchen area with microwave/mini fridge/sink/etc.). We were given our own lock code so we could enter the house freely. They even let us do a load of laundry. We had zero complaints and major compliments!

    Taylor2017-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I had a great stay in Louisville! Jeff and Linda's home is lovely. All of our destinations were just a short drive away from their home. Parking is easy! Our room was very clean and cozy. Heated bathroom floors were a nice treat!

  • Jeff and Linda were the best hosts! Jeff even came out to an art opening I was exhibiting work in which meant a lot. Great people, great place, the yummy snacks were a bonus and their dog is lovely. Would definitely stay here again and 100% recommend!

    Eric2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff was extremely hospitable. The house was amazing. It was clean, easy to get around and comfy. I would definitely stay here again. It was also very well priced.

  • A great experience staying with Jeff! The pictures of the space were very accurate, and everything was up to date and gorgeous. There was also plenty of room on the 3rd floor, and interacting with Jeff was great. Jeff also stocked the fridge with water and other drinks, which was a very nice touch. Very good location as well. Overall, a great stay and I highly recommend staying with Jeff!

  • Apartment was not clean. I would not stay there with children since the smoke detectors were not operable. Bed linens were very worn. Dust and cob webs every where , kitchen was dirty especially floor and dishes. Bathroom also was unacceptable. Definitely not what I had expected. Herb was very nice and hospitable. Location was good.

    Maureen2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Herb. I have stayed in about 6 air Bnb places in my travels recently and yours was by far the most beautiful. It was truly a pleasure to stay in someplace that had such a beautiful old world charm. It will be my place of choice when I come back to Louisville

    Pete2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Herb were great hosts. Chris responded very quickly to any request. He even loaned us his own waterproof windbreakers when it rained. The home is wonderful, decorated with an eclectic collection of antiques. It is very conveniently located near all of the NULU restaurants and shops. We were very comfortable and had everything we needed for a great stay. Would love to come back and visit soon.

  • What a great house! We were in town checking out distilleries in Louisville and the Bardstown area. The location was perfect for enjoying Louisville and an easy drive to Bardstown to spend the day tasting bourbon. The house was perfect for our group of 6 adults. Thanks for having us Carlye!

Great, historic neighborhood. Close to many attractions. Close to downtown, the airport, Kentucky State Fairgrounds, Kentucky Kingdom, Churchill Downs, KFC Yum! Center, Louisville International Convention Center, Waterfront Park, the University of Louisville, NULU entertainment district, the Highlands neighborhood, and Southern Indiana.
  • The charm of Old Louisville will be accentuated in the apartment that Steve and Jessica have to offer. My stay with four other women was very comfortable and we enjoyed the surrounding neighborhood very much. When requesting an Uber or Lyft, I suggest using the backside of the house as the address so the driver knows to enter through the alley. Also, keep in mind that the stairs are a workout so pack accordingly!

  • Great place to stay in a great location. Family friendly. My kids were pleasantly surprised to discover toys and books to enjoy during their stay.

    Justin2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • The house is awesome as described but the wooden ladder to the house is exposed to the air which which would lead us get wet in the rain. Steve is responsive and informative that helped us a lot.

  • From the time we arrived to the time we left everything was wonderful. The thoughtful touches such as the extra blanket for the bed, the fluffy towels, and the toiletry items in the bathroom made this place the perfect weekend stay. The stairs are a bit steep but if you walk slow they are manageable.

This room in particular has a great birds-eye view of Old Louisville.. sit in the chair be the window and take in the city. I've never been given a clean, fresh bath mat before, that was a nice touch!

We love Old Louisville! You are in the heart of Louisville but are in a neighborhood with beautiful old Victorian homes and tree lined streets. Central Park is steps away with tennis courts and a playground. St James Court and the georgeous homes on 4th Street are one block from the house. It is a wonderful walking and biking neighborhood ( bikes are available for rent at the park)
  • What an amazing place to stay! Nancy was very hospitable and quick to respond. The house is in a great, historic location situated steps from Louisville's Central Park - with walking trails, playground, tennis courts and a community amphitheatre, and amazing local restaurants within walking distance. The house is a very cool traditional shotgun style house, completely renovated with a modern feel and comfortable touches and amenities in the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living area. Wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely check with Nancy first the next time we're in Louisville!

  • Awesome place! Extremely clean and everything you need and more. Located on a quiet street, very close to the Expo Centre (our purpose for being in KY) and within walking distance of a few restaurants. Really nicely renovated and spacious. Nice little backyard deck as well. I would definitely stay again!

  • Nancy's home is a wonderful gem in historic Louisville. The listing doesn't even mention the private outdoor space in the back yard! Her home was a comfortable fit for our group of 4. We had a fantastic time exploring Louisville and surrounding Kentucky and are looking forward to staying here again!

  • Nancy and Co place is in the perfect location to enjoy all things Louisville. The accommodations are very stylish and Nancy goes above and beyond to make the space homely. We could stay with family in Louisville, but now we’d prefer Nancy’s place. Can’t wait to come back!

    Lisa2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean and functional place. We had a group of four and it worked really well for us - there was plenty of privacy and space for our group as the bedrooms/bathrooms are on separate ends of the house. The kitchen is well equipped, the living area has comfortable seating options and a nice selection of books and games. The back patio was really comfortable - it has a fan and soft lighting, perfect for sitting out back and relaxing at the end of the day. Also, there were a few snacks provided in the kitchen - certainly not expected but very much appreciated. The host was super responsive and checkin/checkout was a breeze. Great place.

Old Louisville is a historic district and neighborhood in central Louisville, Kentucky, USA. It is the third largest such district in the United States, and the largest preservation district featuring almost entirely Victorian architecture. It is also unique in that a majority of its structures are made of brick, and the neighborhood contains the highest concentration of residential homes with stained glass windows in the U.S. Many of the buildings are in the Victorian-era styles of Romanesque, Queen Anne, Italianate, among others; and a large number of blocks have had few or no buildings razed. There are also several 20th-century buildings from 15 to 20 stories. Old Louisville consists of about 48 city blocks and is located north of the University of Louisville's main campus and south of Broadway and Downtown Louisville, in the central portion of the modern city. The neighborhood hosts the renowned St. James Court Art Show on the first weekend in October. Despite its name, Old Louisville was actually built as a suburb of Louisville starting in the 1870s, nearly a century after Louisville was founded. It was initially called the Southern Extension, and the name Old Louisville did not come until the 1960s. Old Louisville was initially home to some of Louisville's wealthiest residents, but saw a decline in the early and mid-20th century. Following revitalization efforts and gentrification, Old Louisville is currently home to a diverse population with a high concentration of students and young professionals.

  • This is a nice, clean, and quiet place to stay. Mary is very prompt in her communication and went out of her way to help us with finding a place to park multiple vehicles. There's not a lot going on in the immediate area, but this place is only a $6-7 Uber ride away from the downtown area.

    Kendrick2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mary's place was exactly what we needed for a weekend visit to Louisville. This was a mother/ daughter trip, my daughter attended the Humana Theater Festival. The home was easy to find and check into and the space was really comfortable and stylish. The location was great, easy access to downtown and easy to get on the freeway. There was a lot of information about things to do, and I spent most of my time hiking in surrounding parks. I can highly recommend Mary's place for a stay in Louisville.

This home is a cozy place that features the Queen Anne architectural style with beautiful woodwork and lots of space. Louisville is also known for hosting the annual Kentucky Derby as well as the St. James Art Fair along with many other attractions to enjoy.
Some of the beautiful features here include the impressive woodwork along with eight fireplaces (nonworking). There is an intimate foyer along with a living room, dining room, pool room, five bedrooms, eat-in kitchen, bar area, and two bathrooms. The first and second floors have about 5,000 square feet of space. The private room features a nonworking fireplace, small refrigerator, and also a microwave. The upstairs bathroom is shared and contains a large shower (no bathtub), and there is a shared half bath downstairs. We have never had a complaint about sharing the bathrooms.
When you step outside, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through this uniquely mesmerizing neighborhood and are only a short walking distance from Central Park and the famous St. James Court neighborhood.
  • We had a wonderful stay at Janet's home. She was very accommodating. The house is nicely decorated. The bed is great. It was our first time sharing a bathroom that was down the hall. It was not a problem at all. We would come back. We also enjoyed Louisville very much.

    Luann2016-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Janet is a great host! Her response was very quick, and she is so friendly. Her place is clean, quiet, and comfortable. We slept very well. The location is also perfect! The neighbor is the historical district, so we looked around the beautiful houses. I really liked the atmosphere. We really enjoy the first trip to Louisville. Thank you, Janet!!

    Kana2017-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Janet's house is on one of the most beautiful streets in the city. Close to downtown, close to the highlands. The house is huge and gorgeous, calling back the Great Gatsby era with gigantic columns and perfectly polished wood finish inside. There is a pool table and plenty of room to relax. The room I stayed in was big and cozy with Cable TV, fridge, microwave, coffee machine and plenty of lovely appointments. I recommend staying here when in Louisville.

    Adrienne2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a very safe and charming neighborhood in Louisville, and cab to downtown is about $6-9. Janet and her family are very nice and welcoming. My stay was brief but I hope I could have stayed longer! Sunlight if way more than sufficient in the daytime. And you do wake up in the middle of bird chirping and the smell of sunshine. The house is huge so there's plenty room for you to hang out. If you are an artistic kind, you might get inspired by it! It's bright, lively, but with a string of mysterious air. Grace, Janet's granddaughter also left me a beautiful flower. I wish I could stayed there longer!

  • What a gem!! This old historic home is completely renovated but still keeps a bit of that old Louisville charm. Set back from the road in a private walkway, the home’s exterior reflects the incredible history in the neighborhood. Inside, you’ll find all of the modern amenities that you could possibly want! There are a few restaurants within walking distance. We strolled through Central Park to the Old Louisville Tavern and had a fun time. 4th Street Live and surrounding bars/restaurants are just a quick Lyft away (8-10min), so you get the quiet reprieve from the hustle of downtown. The owners were fabulous to work with. Quick to respond. Even took my call at 11pm when we were locked out (a million thanks)! Will be back!

We invite you to come and stay at The Samuel Culbertson Mansion historic bed and breakfast inn on your next visit to Louisville. This Georgian Revival mansion is located in the heart of the Old Louisville National Historic District, near downtown Louisville, the University of Louisville and Churchill Downs. Pamper yourself with the opulence of the Gilded Age, and enjoy a piece of traditional Kentucky in this former home of a President of Churchill Downs and the "Two Little Knights of Kentucky.
The President's Room was the master bedroom of the mansion. We named it because the master of the house, Samuel Culbertson, was president of Churchill Downs during the 1920s and 1930s. In this room you can almost feel the history of the Kentucky Derby around you. Can you hear the call to the post? Will you sleep in this room and dream of the famous Kentucky Derby races of Citation, Galahadion, War Admiral, and Whirlaway? You wouldn't be the first! The room has a king-size full canopy bed, and a large private bath with a shower.
This neighborhood has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes in the country and is the third largest Historical Preservation District in the U.S. Built as a suburb in the 1870s, Old Louisville consists of nearly 48 city blocks of Victorian-era homes – considered the oldest, largest and most beautifully preserved homes in the city. Amid the rich architecture of this community, you’ll also find quaint bed and breakfast inns and excellent dining options, surrounded by the beauty of mature magnolia and oak trees.
  • WOW! What an awesome house, location and hosts! Rudy and Jason were so responsive and welcoming. The house is a historical masterpiece. I wish I had more time to explore all of the unique pieces. Centrally located, it was easy to get to so many different places around the city. Oh - the the breakfast was amazing. I look forward to staying at the Samuel Culbertson Mansion next time I am in Louisville!

    Jennifer2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! I don’t often write reviews. The building was amazing, the location was great but the service was outstanding. The best part of this experience is Rudy, the owner. He was warm, welcoming and happy to share local tips. His mansion was beautiful and filled with antiques, each with a story that Rudy was graciously willing to share. My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and visiting several bourbon distilleries as well as Churchill Downs. One of the best bourbon stops we made was right in Rudy’s basement. He has an amazing bar complete with three juke boxes, a pool table and every high end bourbon you can think of. The home is over 120 years old and loaded with furniture and art twice as old. The pictures don’t do the place justice. I can’t say enough about this place. It was romantic, beautiful, convenient and interesting. One word of caution: Rudy has a very small pup that is quite protective, so if you’re going to give Rudy a hug and you’ll want to, look out for the little pup. Great job Rudy, we’ll be back!

This home was built as a duplex but is now presented as one big, gorgeous home. The first floor includes one bedroom with a queen and full size bed, a full bathroom, a large dining room, and comfortable living room with a well-equipped kitchen and access to a large back courtyard & deck. The second floor contains three large bedrooms, a second dining room, a complete bathroom with separated areas for the shower and toilet, and a newly renovated kitchen that has access to the top area of the outside deck. There is also a lovely and bright dressing room with a huge mirror that is the perfect space for guests to get ready in. Guests will have access to both of these amazing units as well as the double deck and HUGE private courtyard out back. The beautiful courtyard in the back connects to a 1900s Gothic brick church that the owners are currently renovating to turn into a wedding venue. It's stunning and from the deck guest will have access to incredible views of this old church, the stain-glass windows and bell-tower gargoyles. If you happen to see the owner at the church during your stay, she would love to give the full tour. It's pretty impressive. The courtyard is also fully fenced-in which is perfect for hosting your pets as long as you receive PRIOR approval (puppy please?) This is a unique property with lots of history. The neighborhood is Historic Old Louisville, which features some of the most impressive architecture this city has to offer. It is also close to downtown and therefore does see some undesirable foot traffic. It is essential to be mindful and aware of your surroundings.
  • We had a great stay here. The house was impeccably clean, is even nicer and more spacious than the photos appear, and is set on a lovely large property with amazing outdoor space. It’s super well equipped, and the hosts pay a lot of attention to detail, which means there are plenty of extras, including coffee already in the kitchen, some toiletries in the bathroom, and plenty of extra blankets and towels around. We felt right at home during our first visit to Louisville!

  • Magnificent house, setting, grounds/ yard!! This place is unbelievable. This is a perfect house for a group. Plus, you could rent the carriage house in the back, if needed. We loved the yard and the double deck. The communication was prompt, and thoughtful. They were were very accommodating with check in, and out, times, which made our trip much easier. I highly recommend this house, and this management co.

  • Glenda and Faith were the perfect host. Very communicative and friendly. The carriage house is spectacular and the pool is invigorating! The house and property is well kept and super clean. With the large sectional and extra air mattress the carriage home accommodated me and 5 of my Forecastle friends quite nicely. Being alone with in the back yard with pool, trees, and fountains was very therapeutic and peaceful. Thank you very much for sharing this magical space!

    Justin2015-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Glenda's place is beautiful and well appointed. The chaise couch and huge TV were great to come home to unwind to after a day exploring Louisville. Glenda's communication was excellent: timely, informative, and helpful. She even messaged to let us know the place was available for early check in the day we were checking in. She is a wonderful host and we're very grateful for our stay.

  • We loved Glenda's beautiful home! It was an oasis for us on a family vacation, and put us near everything we wanted to see. The setup was very cozy, and the giant TV was a big plus. I value privacy very highly, and this property was ideal for that. Also, communication from Glenda and Faith was extremely prompt and friendly. We could not have hoped for nicer or warmer hosts! Would love to come back!

Elegant Victorian home located in the heart of Old Louisville. Situated between downtown and UofL/Churchill Downs, this location makes for a perfect retreat for folks wanting to stay close to downtown but with a neighborhood feel. Boasting the largest contiguous collection of Victorian mansions in the US, this historic preservation district has 45 sq. blocks of architectural styles from the 19th century. The heart of Old Louisville is Central Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
