Our secluded cabin sits on the edge of timber overlooking the Des Moines River!
Cozy up in front of the indoor wood stove during those cold winter months, or enjoy the cool breeze off the river on the warmer days!
There are 2 properties located at the end of this private driveway. There is plenty of distance between the properties to enjoy a quiet getaway!
  • Due to a scheduling mishap with my work trip, I had to cancel my reservation. Brianna was very helpful and accommodating. I really wish the trip would have worked out because the cabin looks amazing! However, I am grateful for the quick response and overall communication....that alone is worth staying here.

  • You can expect a private and disconnected experience.

  • Bri's place was an awesome weekend getaway for my boyfriend and i! It is closw to downtown keosaqua, but still private. Also close to several great fishing lakes. The cabin itself is beautiful, and was spotless clean! The vjews of the river are gorgeous. There was also a great DVD collection for us to enjoy after a long day on the water. I highly recommend staying here!

  • Our stay at this cabin on the river was wonderful. It's a beautiful and peaceful spot to get away and relax.

    Sharon2018-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Bri has a great cabin tucked away with a beautiful view of the river from the porch. It was a nice space to get away from the every day grind and enjoy being outdoors. She was extremely quick in responding to my messages and her home was clean and had just about everything we needed for the weekend. We truly loved staying here and would recommend it to anyone!

    Erica2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ahhh, I miss this cabin already--what a great property. The cabin itself was cozy and clean, Brianna was excellent to work with right from that start, and the land around the cabin--with the river right there--is gorgeous. We had total privacy in a secluded area, and my only regret is not booking a longer stay. Thank you, Brianna, for sharing such a gem!

    Nicole2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We were pleasantly surprised by the cabin. It was even more wonderful in person, the pictures don't do it justice. The river provided a peaceful backdrop while relaxing on the porch. Very private but only 5 minutes from town. The host provided every amenity you could need from movies to shampoo to speakers for your phone! Plenty of towels and linens available. The bed was on the firm side for those wondering about that. Would definitely recommend. We had an amazing time!

    Chrystal2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Can not recommend this place enough! Absolutely beautiful and the perfect way to get out of town! Amazing experience!

  • This is a wonderful place with a ton of space, rare taxidermy, beautiful and restful area. We should have booked a whole week 8)

  • What an awesome setup! Tj was very accommodating and the stay was great. Close to lake Sugema! Would definitely stay there again.

    Jake2018-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • TJ’s place is bigger than it appears in the pictures. We enjoyed the fire pit, and having firewood available for us to use was a bonus.

    Kathy2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • First of all, this place wasn't at all what I expected. It was much better then I could of imagined! the cabin was beautiful and clean and very comfortable. we spent most of the time outside finishing in the pond exploring the area and playing with all the cats and kittens around. TJ was a great host he would reply back to all my questions quickly. If you are looking for a relaxing place I would reccomend this farm cabin we are already talking about wanting to return in the future!

  • Great place! Very comfortable and lots of fun to be had! The hosts are very welcoming and enjoyable to be around Very clean and relaxing!

  • This was our 2nd stay at TJ's place, it a great place & fits our needs perfectly for 'Girls Craft Weekend Getaway'...

    April2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Tj's place was absolutely great. When we arrived it exceeded our expectations. The beds were comfortable in both rooms, and we appreciated the fantastic couch/tv set-up in the living room - especially when it was pouring rain outside on our second night there. The views are incredible, and there is opportunity to fish in the pond or walk down to the creek to look for geodes. We loved eating our meals under the overhand of the cabin at the picnic table. TJ and his wife were so kind and hospitable. Their adorable boys played well with our kids, which was a nice bonus as is provided something for the kids to do in addition to our other adventures. The location is great and provides easy access to the villages of Van Buren. We would absolutely stay here again.

  • If you are looking for a place that is very picturesque, relaxing and comfortable, this is the place to be. Our hosts were very gracious, easy to talk to and made us feel like we had known them for a long time even though it was the first time we met.

A grocery store, post office, restaurant, and other amenities are all within three blocks of our Arts and Crafts style home that offers four well-appointed, lovely rooms for our guests.

Just across the river is Indian Lake Park, 166 gorgeous acres filled with wildlife. Indian Lake itself, the 44-acre crown jewel of the park, offers swimming, fishing, canoes for rent, and a nature trail for hiking around its perimeter. Farmington also has a beautiful extended riverfront park with benches and a picnic shelter, and is adjacent to Shimek State Forest (8,000+ acres).
  • We had decided to only spend a night and leave early in the morning and go back home after a thanksgiving party in Keosauqua state Park. In reality the warmly welcome of Elisabeth made us feel like you were at home ! The room was very clean and quiet. We decided to stay and have our breakfast there. This one was home made with delicious blueberries pancakes, sausages and eggs. Can't wait to come and meet again Elisabeth and David

  • The home was lovely and inviting. The rooms were beautiful and each room unique. The hosts set a warm, welcoming stage for my daughters and made them feel at home. The food was delicious as well. I will stay here and have my family stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful time.

    Julie2015-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We so enjoyed our stay in Farmington with Elizabeth and David. They have clearly lovingly and meticulously restored this grand old home. All amenities were outstanding, from the towels, bedding, breakfast and "porch time." Very home town and wonderful community with great campgrounds and lake. Highly recommend.

    Cynthia2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth and Dave provide a traditional BnB with personal service in their home, hot coffee always ready, charming antique furniture, hot breakfast, in a cozy 1920's craft's style house.

    John2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice old house in a super quiet neighborhood. Elizabeth goes out of her way to make you feel at home. The porch is very nice, but a heat wave precluded us getting to use it.

    Steve2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying with Elizabeth. She has a beautiful home and a fabulous porch. She is very knowledgeable about the area and gave us many tips on where to go eat and things to do. We will definitely stay again if we are going to the area.

    Cindy2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable and welcoming. Clean room and nice people.

    Bev2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Porch Time B&B is an absolute gem. Elizabeth and David were excellent hosts who make every effort to accommodate requests we made and were very friendly in the process. The house is absolutely gorgeous and very inviting. Elizabeth made an exceptional breakfast and happily provided tea and coffee outside our door in the morning. We have family in the area and are already looking forward to our next visit so we can stay with Elizabeth and David again!!!

  • Very nice place. The cabin is a big step up from where we have stayed in the past in Keosauqua.

  • Erin was amazing to work with - super fast responses and very thoughtful. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cabin. We spent so much time on the deck enjoying nature but the inside was just as nice. The bedrooms were decorated nicely and very clean. We'll be back :)

AMISH Country. Escape to Van Buren County in SE Iowa where history is rich, the people friendly and the country beautiful. Stay in this pioneer country church built in 1860 within walking distance to a 1700 acre state park on the Mormon trail.
Inspiration. As an artist I feel that this location is tranquil and spiritual - that of a place built with love and care. You can feel it during the quiet times. In addition to the good vibes it is also an excellent starting place for day trips or to break away and enjoy nature and history. Visit quaint neighboring villages in the SE Iowa nestled in green hills against the Des Moines River - don't miss local villages Bonaparte and Bentonsport and take day trips to the Amish Market, Fairfield/Vedic City home of the Raj Spa and Maharishi meditation center, the American Gothic house in Eldon, the Amana historic colony north, Kaloma village, or the Nauvoo Living History center east to the Illinois/Iowa state line. Experience a unique Mississippi River city lifestyle and food at Burlington an hour away, or Mark Twain's Hannibal, MO. Rural area - country homes - private but neighbors nearby; walking / biking distance to town.
  • Marianne's Historic Pioneer Church home is an absolute delight....from the very old and uneven wood floors to the high ceilings and old windows, we felt comfortable at the very beginning. The kitchen, great room and bathroom are very spacious and allowed us all the accommodations of home. The only thing I was worried about was the bed, we all know how difficult it is to sleep in a different bed but this one was amazing, we had no trouble falling asleep and staying asleep it was so comfortable. We would definitely recommend Marianne's to anyone looking for a little get away.

    Mark2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • The home is everything it is described to be. People in the community are very friendly. We enjoyed the home cooked meals at the local restaurants but there is an adequate kitchen in the home. We enjoyed the "Tour of Barns" and the fall festivities in the surrounding villages.

    Pamela2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a unique and fun location, with beautiful views and comfortable spaces. Marianne was very easy to work with and her communication was good. The area is really interesting, especially if you enjoy history, but it's also a good place to just relax and get away.

    Laura2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is definitely a pioneer house with uneven floors, traffic noise and no air conditioning (plenty of fans). We enjoyed the decorating style Marianne used with antiques and artwork. The furniture was comfortable, and the facilities were fine for a couple. We used this central location to explore all of Van Buren County. We would recommend this home for moderate temperature stays.

    Dennis2018-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect retreat for a couple's weekend getaway. Marianne was wonderful! The history of the house and surrounding towns will always leave you wanting more.

    Angie2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • We so enjoyed our anniversary stay at Marianne's home. We were pleasantly surprised by all there was to do to around the villages of Van Buren. The house was located within walking distance of town, along a pretty path crossing the river. We were looking for a quiet, quaint getaway and we found it. The nearby State park was one of the better we have been to also. We appreciated our quiet time away.

    Teresa2017-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Charming place with artistic touches everywhere. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you'd need to make a meal (we didn't, but I was impressed with the inventory of cookware and such). Even though it is an old church building, the place was extremely clean and well-cared for. There is a gas fireplace in the living room and lots of great books that made for cozy evenings. We felt right at home and would stay again if we are ever in Keo in the future! My favorite little touch: the label on the bedroom door frame that read, "Naps and such" (many doors and cupboards were smartly labeled, but I found that one especially lovely). Marianne was a great host, as well. Easy to communicate with and very helpful.

The Methodist Church Retreat is nestled in the Des Moines River Valley in Van Buren County, IA., in a small town called Bentonsport. The Church was built in 1857 and served its congregation until 1988. It then became a private home. Shortly thereafter it became a rental property for those wanting to visit historic Van Buren County. Room. Visitors that stay at the Church definitely enjoy the comforts of a true home-away from home.
The Methodist Church is a comfortable home-away-from-home. The residence is in a semi-secluded area and is a beautiful, serene, and spacious rental that can comfortably sleep 11 people. There is plenty of floor space for airbeds which we will supply if needed. It has sleeping space for eleven people, a full kitchen, dining area, TV area, and two full bathrooms. The Church is perfect for family getaways, business retreats, receptions, family reunions, ladies' or men's outings, honeymoons, and much more.
Van Buren County is not only rich in beauty, but also in history. Towns are within short distances of each other. Bentonsport has several shops with food, antiques, and gifts. It has a formal rose garden growing within the walls of an old mill. It has the oldest truss bridge this side of the Mississippi. It was built for horse drawn carriages and wagons. It became a bridge for motorized vehicles and is now a foot bridge over the Des Moines River. Within a 6 mile drive are several dining places and also more shops. During winter, local businesses are closed, but there is still plenty to see and do in the area, if you want to be entertained.
  • Great host and great people :)! Had a great time around the area, would recommend for a visit to get away from the city life and visit a very interesting part of the country!

    Michael2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • How many people can say they vacationed in a church? Very comfortable and well-done conversion of the church, hold 2-10 comfortably. Makes a great home base for exploring the Villiages of VanBuren. Sandi and Keith are fine hosts for you get-away. Make sure to eat at the old grist mill in Boneapart - excellent dining.

    Cindy2017-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Sandi&Keith are great hosts. They made sure we had a great experience. The house is very spacious and peaceful. Would be a perfect weekend getaway.

    Keerthy2018-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Bentonsport is a nice little village next to the Des Moines River. There are lots of historical buildings in the area. This church is a great place to stay. The beauty of the exterior and the surrounding rural town makes it a great get away. The town is very peaceful and quiet. I can't say enough good about the beautiful remodel job on the interior. It feels modern and spacious. We truly had a home away from home here. I recommend this destination if you're in the area.

    Eric2016-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were perfect. The church has been beautifully remodeled. Sandy was very hospitable and the place was large, clean and well-supplied with everything we needed. Thank you Sandy! We are sure to see you again!
