The Giant Eyeball sculpture, located directly across from The Joule hotel, is the definitive "Whimsical Collector" landmark in your 75201 neighborhood. This 30-foot fiberglass, resin, and steel orb was created by artist Tony Tasset and is modeled after his own eye. Atmosphere: It sits in a private, fenced-in garden, so it functions as a visual spectacle best viewed from the sidewalk. It is particularly striking at dusk when the lighting highlights the "bloodshot" veins. Significance: Originally a temporary installation in Chicago, it was moved permanently to Dallas in 2013 and has since become one of the city's most recognizable icons.

Uptown is Dallas’ first true walkable neighborhood with 135 bars/restaurants in a 3 mile radius. Hop on the trolley which is an original 1920’s street car at West Village and take in the scenery, or get off to do some power shopping and brunch. There’s an area called ‘Steakhouse Alley’ by the Crescent where you can choose from Del Frisco’s, Perry’s, Nick and Sam’s, Mortons and Capitol Grill if you want to get a true taste of Texas. The Crescent Court Hotel has a Stanley Korshak as well as a Sixty Vines to refuel with amazing flatbreads and wine, or a spa to pamper with a pedi. There are options a plenty for brunch, as Dallasites take Sunday Funday seriously and you can either go trendy with The Henry or catch some delicious migas at Mi Cocina. Both will delight you!

If you want to go bar hopping, this is the place to go! McKinney Ave. is lined with bars. Some of my faves for a good cocktail are Parliament, Social House, Tates, Idle Rich Pub and Standard Poor.

The hip Bishop Arts District is known for its diverse nightlife, chic independent fashion stores and colorful street art. Dining choices range from Texas-style BBQ to Vietnamese pho, while relaxed bars pour everything from cocktails to house-brewed cider. Cult movies are the draw at the Texas Theatre, while the art deco Kessler Theater presents live music by local and national bands.

From Nola's guidebook
I recommend Bishop Arts because it hits a sweet spot that most Dallas–Fort Worth visitors don’t expect: it’s walkable, creative, full of personality, and packed with things to do in a compact area. Takeaway: Bishop Arts is one of the few places in DFW where you can park once, walk everywhere, and spend hours exploring independent shops, standout restaurants, and a lively, artsy atmosphere.

A superb, multi-purpose arena found in the Victory Park neighborhood, AA Center is home to none other than Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks (NBA) and the NHL’s Dallas Stars. Outside of the main sports seasons, a lot of concerts take place here too, with well-known artists like Justin Bieber and Tame Impala gracing its stage in years gone by. Be sure to check the website to see who’s performing when you’re in town!

To the east of the downtown core, the Deep Ellum district also contains a dense concentration of arts and culture. A lively neighborhood to catch some live music on the weekends, Deep Ellum is also known for its creative nature. Some of this artistic vibe is visible in the many murals around the area. For the most in-depth look into the culture of Deep Ellum, the Deep Ellum Art & Music Festival takes place every April.

Lower Greenville is a lively dining and nightlife strip packed with trendy bistros, tequila bars and convivial patios hung with festive lights. A neon-lit marquee beckons indie and alt-country fans to the Granada Theater, a buzzy live music venue in a 1940s art deco building. Off the avenue, stylish bungalow homes line the quiet, tree-lined streets. I highly recommend checking out any of the restaurants here, but make reservations in advance unless you want to wait an hour or more for a table! My favorite restaurant: HG SUPLY CO (American meals, craft beers & cocktails in a rustic-chic locale with a rooftop patio)

This might be my favorite area. Very walkable; family friendly and safe (even at night). Lots of local shops and great places to eat! Be sure to pop in Outside Texas for the coolest Texas gear! Leelas wine bar, Ngon Vietnamese, Wabi House, Alamo Club, Truck Yard, Boulangerie, LaLa Land Kind Cafe, Libertine Bar, HG Supply roof top, and Son of a Butcher are among our favorites.
