Graham was born in 1918, and today his childhood home has become a pilgrimage site for many to pay their respects. Lake Natoma Lake Natoma is a reservoir on the lower American River in Folsom, located downstream of Folsom Lake. It is part of the Folsom State Recreation Area and serves both recreational and environmental purposes. The lake is known for calm waters that attract rowers, kayakers, and other non-motorized boaters. Key facts Location: Between Folsom Dam and Nimbus Dam, California Created: 1955 (following completion of Nimbus Dam) Surface area: ~500 acres Primary inflow/outflow: American River Managing agency: California Department of Parks and Recreation Formation and Geography Lake Natoma was formed when Nimbus Dam was completed as part of the Central Valley Project. It lies about 15 miles northeast of Sacramento and stretches roughly 4 miles in length. The lake’s banks are lined with oaks, riverine vegetation, and trails connecting to the American River Parkway. Water levels remain relatively constant compared with Folsom Lake upstream. Recreation and Use The lake is a regional hub for rowing and paddle sports. The Sacramento State Aquatic Center on its southern shore offers rentals and training programs. Powerboats are restricted to maintain a peaceful environment suited for sculling, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Cyclists and runners use the 11-mile Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail that follows the shoreline. Only 11 minutes drive from our front door, Crowders Mountain State Park has two companion peaks. The Pinnacle and Crowders Mountain peaks offer tough hikes, tall cliffs, and views of the nearby Piedmont region that can be seen within 25 miles. There are eleven paths available, some easier and some more difficult, including the Ridgeline Trail which connects to Kings Mountain State Park and Kings Mountain National Military Park in South Carolina. A nine-acre lake is also available for fishing, and canoe rentals are available for those who want to explore the lake.

The park sits on the outskirts of Gastonia, with 5,210-acres and 16 different hiking trails waiting to be explored. The fun includes a hike around a lake and along a creek. However, the park’s two peaks (Crowders Mountain and The Pinnacle) are where you’ll find its best views. You can see Charlotte’s skyline on clear days by following Crowders Trail for 2-1/2 miles to the top of Crowders Mountain. The highest peak is reachable via Pinnacle Trail (2 miles). At 1,705 feet, it’s also the highest point in Gaston County.

SouthEnd is the fastest growing area in Charlotte. It starts just south of Uptown as you cross over HWY 277 (Less than 1 mile from uptown) and goes south for several miles. It is the most popular area for young professionals (20-35) to live, work and play, and its my favorite neighborhood! The growth of SouthEnd really started with the growth in the brewery scene, and in fact, SouthEnd is home to countless great breweries. But, within the past few years, SouthEnd has also become one of the best places in Charlotte for foodies. Although it is a hub for millennials, because of the great craft breweries and food, SouthEnd is now a place that people of all ages enjoy. You can access SouthEnd by car or taking the LightRail which is only a few blocks from your condo, taking an uber/lyft or by scooter. My Recommended Places: *Barcelona Wine Bar- a must visit (great food, drinks and atmosphere) *Jeni's Ice Cream- maybe the most popular place in SouthEnd *Mac's Speed Shop- a local favorite, great southern food and biker hangout *Suffolk Punch (great atmosphere and bring the dog!) *Zeppelin *Superica (really good tex/mex fare) *Let's Meat & Seoul Food Meet Co. You are Steps from Dilworth's Historic District. Take a right out of the driveway and a right on Buchanon and you are THERE! Dilworth was Charlotte’s first suburb and the first suburb with streetcar transportation to the business district. Edward Dilworth Latta had a vision of urbanizing Charlotte by creating a residential area with easy access to the city center. For that purpose he bought 442 acres of farmland and fairgrounds in 1890. His company, known locally as the Four C’s, secured the gas franchise, electric streetlights, and created the first electric streetcar line that would connect Dilworth to the “city”. ​ Latta wanted to develop the area as a complete community that would include a diverse collection of homes surrounding a beautiful green space, and some industry. Atherton Mill and many other factory buildings in what is now Southend, were part of the Dilworth plan and recognized as Charlotte’s first industrial park. For the green space, Joseph Forsyth Johnson, a well-known landscape architect, was hired to create a beautiful park with a boating lake, lily pad pond, terraced gardens, and winding paths. Though much smaller now, Latta Park remains one of Dilworth’s favorite attractions. ​ ​ As industry boomed in the early 1900’s, Dilworth grew. The Olmsted Brothers firm was brought in as both landscape architects and urban planners to plan the expansion of Dilworth. The Olmsteds considered not only street and traffic patterns, but also the topography and landscape features of the neighborhood. Their design included a grand hour glass shaped road that would curve around and connect the sections of houses to the north and south of Latta Park. That grand tree lined road is Dilworth Road. ​ Dilworth as we know it was recognized for its importance in Charlotte's history and granted protection as a local historic district in 1983. Dilworth is a great neighborhood located just south/east of Uptown (1-2 miles from Uptown). It boasts some really great restaurants and is a great place for those looking to have a relaxing evening with local fare.
