Take this train to the montenvers station to view the mer de glace, (sea of ice) and check out the ice cave artificially carved into the glacier each season. If you purchase a multi pass you can do this and l'aguille du midi in the same day if you get an early enough start.

The Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) is the largest glacier in France, 7km long and 200m deep and is one of the biggest attractions in the Chamonix Valley. To access the Mer de Glace and the Ice Cave in Chamonix, take the train of the Montenvers from Chamonix town centre (Gare du Montenvers).

Take the train up to Montenvers or hike up 1000 meters, where you can take the gondola lift down to the glacier and see the ice cave. Have lunch at the Refuge du Montenvers (great fondue!) or if you are feeling sporty, hike over to Plan d'Aiguille and take the lift back down (or hike down to Chamonix!). Gorgeous views - bring your camera.

The Planards is a small ski area in town centre + in summer it is an amusement park with a luge on rails (that also runs in winter) and many other games for children. It has 2 blue runs with one chair lift as well as rolling carpets and green runs away from the main run for the beginners.

The Aiguille du Midi cable car takes you up to 3,842 metres/12,604 vertical feet in less than 20 minutes with spectacular views of Mont Blanc. Ski the Vallee Blanche or enjoy the restaurant, museum and viewing areas from the top.

Take a ride up to almost 4000m and enjoy amazing views of the French, Swiss, and Italian alpine peaks. Open all year round, it is a “must do” for everyone. As well as the incredible engineering of the high altitude station, you can “Step Into The Void”, a glass box suspended at 3842m and see the glacial crevasses yawning far beneath your feet! Consider booking your ticket in advance on the Mont Blanc Natural Resort website to avoid long queues during peak season.

The highest point accessible via a cable car in Europe and the most amazing views! This is a must for any short trip and I'd recommend buying the day ticket and going early. Visit the Mer de glace with the same ticket on the same day to save some money.
