“This accommodation is ideal for an overnight stop. The bed is comfortable, the linen very upmarket and we had a fantastic night's sleep. (even an electric blanket on the bed!). The shower is the best and there was plenty of very hot water. Tea/coffee making facilities were great and lovely homemade rusks were supplied. We got a wonderful welcome and Wilma's husband even helped us by getting us wood for our braai. I can highly recommend this home. When we woke up in the morning the big Alsation was asleep outside our door!!Thank you for making us so welcome in De Aar!”
Relaxing Farmhouse, braai, star gazing, clear skies, fresh air
“We travelled to Aletta's home from Sutherland on the gravel road, via Fraserburg and Loxton, and the R12. She gave us good directions and it was easy to find. A warm welcome and a homely cottage awaited us, and after washing off the dust in the best shower in 3000km, we relaxed and enjoyed our evening. The cottage is spacious and well equipped with a lovely garden and parking right outside the door. We would love to have stayed longer - - - maybe next time!”
The accommodation is housed in Britstown's Old Jail which was built during the late 1890's. It is believed the facility was used to house some of prisoners during the Anglo-Boer war. Engraved names and pictures can be seen carved into the granite stone blocks. During the renovation process, which took place between 2017 and 2018, as much as possible of the original fittings were kept without detracting from a comfortable stay.
“An unique experience, friendly service very neat and tidy cells!!! Do not miss out on this.”
