Tarbo's spacious home with its modern lower level and traditional upstairs tatami sleeping area was a special and unique way to experience Nara. The location, while requiring a bit of a walk from the station, is very conveniently located next to Nara park. And although we didn't get to meet in person, Tarbo was friendly and helpful during our stay, and I hope we can meet next time we're in Japan.
Dia & Hila are the perfect hosts! Airbnb this couple need a Gold Star rating!!! You couldn't want for the most nicest, friendliest and helpful couple. We had the time of our life's staying at Fujieda House. Hila picked us up from Yakiu station and took us to the supermarket to collect supplies before driving us to the our home for the next three days. The house is 90 years old, and has been lovingly restored by Dia and Hila, who live right next door. We found the house homely and warm considering the wooden and paper walls. If you needed anything Hila will get for you, she is so helpful and kind. Dia and Hila also cooked us breakfast and dinner for the 3 days we stay, and all I can say is.... Do it! Dia is an amazing cook. The Japanese evening meals we're amazing and plentiful, and breakfast was more than enough to get you started for your days adventures. You can experience a tea ceremony down in the town/village and feed to Koi carp in the surrounding lake. A beautiful place, specially at the end of March and beginning of April with all the cherry blossoms (Sakura) blooming everywhere. I also can not recommend enough to experience Dia's Bamboo Forest and dug for your own bamboo shoots. It's an experience that myself and my son will never forget. There's also a couple of hikes you can do. We walked the road hike, which after the rain during the night and very steep roads was a bit of a challenge. But well worth the views of the mountains, green tea groves and bamboo forests. We were also honored with a trip to the highest point to see if we could see Mt Fuji.... and to our delight we got to see the snow capped top of Fuji which is quite a rarity to see. A perfect ending to our wonderful trip to Fujieda! I can not stress enough how beautiful Fujieda House is and how anyone visiting Japan needs to go too.... You'll regret not staying here! A massive thanks to Dia and Hila!!!
