Montaza is a very popular destination in Alexandria. Montaza means gardens/park and that's exactly what it has to offer; an open space with gardens and parks. It also has beaches, cafes, restaurants and an hotel (Helnan Palestine Hotel). Montaza Palace is an historic site, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It originally had the Salamlek Palace, built in 1892 by Khedive Abbas II, and later, the El-Haramlek Palace, constructed by King Fuad I in 1932. President Anwar El-Sadat renovated the Salamlek Palace, and it was used by former President Hosni Mubarak. Today, the Montaza Palace grounds are open to the public, serving as a landscape park and forest reserve. El-Haramlek—Montaza Palace also functions as a museum showcasing the Muhammad Ali Dynasty's family history and art. El Salamlek Palace is now a nearby hotel. Montaza is a gated area and you pay an entry fee by the gates. Montaza is right next to Maamoura and there is even a gate in between the two sites and many people used to spend the day covering both areas.

This building in itself is an architectural masterpiece, whether in the interior decorations, wall paintings, or even in the beautiful stained glass windows! For those interested in history, this villa was designed in European style and was owned by Princess Fatima Al-Zahra, one of the princesses of the royal family. And if we move to the antiques and jewelry in the museum, we will find a bouquet of the most beautiful and wonderful watches and various antique coins that date back to the Roman, Byzantine, Persian and Coptic eras, not to mention the Egyptian, Turkish and foreign medals and necklaces inlaid with jewelry and gold that belonged to members of the family of Muhammad Ali Pasha!

The Royal Jewelry Museum celebrates the Egyptian royal family established by Mohamed Ali Pasha in 1805, and which continued to rule for 150 years. The collection is displayed in the stunning palace of Princess Fatma El Zahraa, a descendent of Mohamed Ali Pasha. The palace, built in 1919, acts as a striking backdrop to the magnificent possessions owned by the family. It uniquely merges European and Islamic styles, and reflects the remarkable taste of the princess in the paintings, gilded ceilings and mosaics decorating the many rooms of the palace. The possessions amassed by the family over the span of their rule are on display throughout the magnificent halls of the palace. A diamond and emerald inlaid collar belonging to the founder of the dynasty, Mohamed Ali Pasha, is among the museum’s collection. The lavish lifestyle of the family is reflected in a gold chessboard, gold binoculars encrusted with diamonds, rubies and emeralds, and gold cups inlaid with precious stones. Dazzling and elaborate jewelry commissioned by the greatest designers in Europe, which once adorned the queens and princesses of Egypt’s royal family, is also on display.
