Flora De Mayo is a welcome breath of fresh air after the hustle and bustle of Juan Santamaria Airport. We loved our first stay so much, we booked our last night in Costa Rica there as well!
The home itself is beautiful -- several spacious, private rooms off of a large central courtyard with a pond and garden. Masks, statuettes, and other pieces of art collected by Carol and her family fill corners and hang on many of house's walls. When we stayed there, the daytime hours were filled with the sounds of a cheeky parrot that lives in a cage in the courtyard (amusing, not annoying). Our particular room was one of the nicest in which we stayed on our trip.
The house sits on a large piece of property with giant bamboo groves, patches of dense vegetation, and numerous fruit trees. There's a spring-fed pool which was quite inviting. You could spend a day or two just exploring the property.
Carol is a phenomenal host. We had dinner with her our first night, which was definitely worth the $15 pp, and breakfast each morning was a satisfying array of fresh fruit, toast, and other sundries. We were looking for conversation, and we really enjoyed chatting with her about her travel experiences and the history of the property. We opted to rent a car for our weeklong trip, though Carol graciously offered us a ride to and from the airport.
We will definitely be back on our next trip to Costa Rica. Thanks!
