Ellie was a high school English teacher for 25 years and is now an Associate Professor at Spalding University in a MFA Writing program. She has five books in print. We designed and built this house 9 years ago. Son Will and H built the treehouse over the course of tree summers. H was also a high school teacher and retired in 2009. Your stay in the treehouse includes a generous continental breakfast, a private bath, spa privileges, and a quiet place to relax.
This was our second time staying at the treehouse and everything was just as wonderful as the first time! Thanks to Ellie and H for another superb experience!!
February 2012Before embarking on our journey to the treehouse, I wondered how a place could have SO many incredible reviews. Now, I know why, and am so grateful to get to write one of my own. Words truly cannot do justice to this place - this experience. From the moment we pulled up the long, winding driveway to H. and Ellie's house and saw the little treehouse, illuminated by Christmas lights in the distance, we were in love. The treehouse itself is enough to fill you to the brim with joy! But add... More »
Our stay at the Fern Forest Treehouse exceeded our expectations! We were warmly greeted by Harrison and Ellie, offered wine/beer, some snacks and had a wonderful conversation with them. They are great people that have a gift of making their guests feel relaxed and right at home. They even made sure our beloved dog was comfortable :) The treehouse was cozy and very warm ( we stayed in the middle of January) and was comfortable for the three of us. Every morning Harrison and Ellie had a warm,... More »
My stay at the Fern Forest Treehouse was excellent. My friend and I only stayed one night, but we both wish we stayed longer! Harrison and Ellie are great hosts. We both felt very comfortable and welcomed. The treehouse was cozy. Breakfast was amazing! I will definitely be returning.
Had a great time at the treehouse. Ellie and Harrison were awesome hosts with lots of helpful recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Breakfast was amazing every morning. Treehouse was cozy even as temperatures dropped to below zero at night. Definitely want to come back as two nights was not enough.
Had a wonderful time in the Treehouse even during the bad weather. Our breakfast was great and plentiful. Harrison & Ellie were very nice, friendly and accommedating. Great views and a unique adventure.
The Fern Forest Treehouse was a wonderful experience and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Ellie and Harrison were delightful and couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating hosts! We enjoyed having the opportunity to stay in the tree house, get to know Ellie and Harrison a bit, and enjoy the fall foliage. Harrison's pancakes were awesome. We hope to return!
The treehouse was the best!!! Cozy and comfortable. We are already planning to go back. One night was not enough! H and Ellie were fabulous hosts and immediate friends. The breakfast was superior, loved Ellie's home made granola . The whole experience left us happy. Thank you so much for making available such a wonderful experience!!.
Our stay at the treehouse was magical! It was far more than either my friend or myself had expected. The house is situated in the most picturesque mountain town in Vermont. The treehouse itself was beautifully built and felt more like a comfy cabin in a tree than a treehouse. Harry and Ellie were incredibly sweet and gracious hosts who really went out of their way to make sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. Harry made us the best breakfast we've had on our trip! Lots of fruit, scones,... More »
Ellie and H we would like to thank you for such a great time during our stay at the Tree House. The breakfast on both days was excellent and I might add a huge variety of breakfast food ranging from home made granola (delicious), fresh fruits, egg omelets, muffins, scones, Greek yogurt, waffle, bacon, Canadian bacon and juice with the “best coffee I’ve had in years”. The Tree House was perfect. We loved the layout; it was comfortable and just so relaxing. The first night was raining out and... More »
This was the perfect getaway! So peaceful& calm, we didn't want to leave it! H & Ellie, you're the kind of people we wish were our neighbors! (Ellie, hope to see a write-up in the New York Times in the near future!)
Wonderful place - Harrison and Ellie were exceptional hosts! A nice couple - we truly enjoyed the conversations with them over a glass of wine. The area is stunning, pristine nature, we were there at peak foliage. There is a nice little town nearby with a few restaurants, very Vermont. The tree house is really cool and well maintained. They made us a 5 star breakfast complete with homemade granola. My fiance left a couple tshirts behind, we got them in the mail a few days later freshly... More »
Tia and I had a great stay at the Fern Forest treehouse. It was everything we had hoped it would be. The setting was spectacular, and Ellie and Harrison felt like good friends within minutes. This is truly a special place. Fran Colangelo
September 18 2011 H and Ellie are wonderful hosts. They make you feel like there home is yours. They have bedroom and bathroom in the mail house to accommodate you. The breakfast was superber each morning, the weather was great and the views are unforgettable. My love Paul and I decided to spend our second yr. of being together in the tree house. Picture a 250lb over 6ft. man climbing the latter to the loft each night for bed. the laughs alone were worth it and I was no graceful doll... More »
This was our first experience staying at a B&B and it was great! We had an easy time booking and corresponding with Harrison. He was very prompt with emails and information. We really enjoyed visiting with Harrison and Ellie and they were so welcoming! The treehouse was quite an experience and very cute. The accomodations were clean and we had a bathroom and a bedroom in the main house at our disposal too. And of course, the dining room for our excellent breakfast "feast"! I would... More »
Awesome treehouse in rural Vt. We only spent one night but wish we'd stayed longer. Hopefully, we'll be back some day.
Staying at H and Ellie's treehouse was wonderful. It was a uniquely sweet get away and afforded the right combination of rustic and pampering. The tree house is such a special space, 30 ft up in the tree house, surrounded by forest. The space itself is very small and cozy. Ellie and H were lovely hosts. They were very generous in sharing maps of the area and making great suggestions on dining options in nearby towns. They were just as wonderful in sharing conversation and stories. They... More »
You will always remember with delight your stay in the Treehouse!! I arranged a surprise mystery trip for 2 nights for my husband's 70th birthday and H and Ellie made it memorable with their hospitality, generous spirits, and delightful conversations. You arrive as eager visitors and leave with new friends!
My husband and I had three magical nights at the Fern Forest Tree House. Our hosts could not possibly have been more accomdating and friendly. The breakfasts were far superior to any that we have had at any of the many B&B's where we have stayed in the past. We cannot wait to return. Margie Cossette
Really great little apartment! So close to everything in Burlington, and so clean and nice to come home to. Thanks so much!
Amazing! Incredibly nice place, and an even nicer host. I had car trouble, so he came and met me and helped me find a garage close by. I highly recommend staying with Harrison next time you're in Burlington.
This was a wonderful experience for us. We celebrated our 29th anniversary and could not have had a more perfect spot to do so. We plan to return for our 30th if the place is available. The food was delicious, the hosts were gracious, warm, welcoming and generous. The treehouse is located in a quiet, peaceful and lovely area. Simply marvelous!
Harrison was a great host. The condo was very clean, lovely, and in the best location! We loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.
My wife and I stayed in the treehouse as our getaway honeymoon. It was so nice and relaxing and the hosts were more than accomadating. The breakfast was amazing, some of the best food we have had in a while. They were also very helpful in advise to things to do in the area. We can not wait to stay with them again.
We had a wonderful time in VT and the apartment was perfect and close to everything. Harrison was UNBELIEVABLY accommodating after myriad traveling complications on our end, and we finally made it to the apartment to find flowers, sweets, and treats waiting for us. It was a lovely experience.
it's the perfect place located in a perfect spot in this perfect city.
A memorable and peaceful experience which my wife and I will most surely try to do again. Harrison & Ellie are most gracious and gentle hosts. Great place to chill and admire the mountain views or dip into nearby streams. The road trip from NYC is enjoyable too with winding country roads past beautiful pastoral views of local farms. The friendly town of Bristol has good restaurants ( we had dinner at the Bobcat) and a plant nursery (Rocky Dale Gardens) where I bought a couple of woodland... More »
Staying at the treehouse was a truly special experience. We absolutely loved our stay and highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and adventurous get away.
The apartment was very conveniently located. It is very small but efficiently planned, with a full kitchen. There is a nice porch too.
H and Ellie are warm, sincere and generous people who make you feel enveloped in an atmosphere of belonging, from their welcome at the front door to their bountiful breakfasts mixed with engaging conversation that make you want to linger for hours after. Fern forest is truly a magical experience, one that leaves you looking forward to returning for friendship and far more. Harry was a superb host! He was thoughtful and helpful in every way. We *loved* the apartment and immediately felt at home. Harry even brought us a bouquet of Vermont wildflowers to welcome us. A wonderful getaway with a great host - highly recommended! :-)
Great apartment! Walking distance to everything.
We had such a great time in our very first treehouse experience! Ellie and Harry warmly welcomed us as if we were part of the family. We loved sharing stories, the view of the mountains, the gardens (including the eclectic cairn collections), Harry's great works of art, and delicious breakfasts. We wished we could have stayed longer, but will definitely be back!!
My fiance and I loved our weekend up at Fern Forest Treehouse so much! H and Ellie couldn't have been sweeter hosts. We look forward to coming back for another visit soon!!!
A fabulous setting and wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed our stay and meeting Harrison and Ellie. If we are in the area again we'll definitely stay again. tom and bea
My wife and me enjoyed this unique opportunity for a two-night staycation and our host and hostess could not do enough for us. Location is ideal to visiting the general Vermont area attractions, e.g., Ben & Jerrys, Morgan Horse Farm, towns of Middleberry and Bristol are worthy visits and only short distances from the Treehouse. We will welcome the opportunity to revisit the Treehouse should our future travel plans so permit. John & Tina, Billerica, MA
I had a wonderful time at the downtown condo. Very close to everything, parking and even coffee for the next morning. I will be back!
Not enough words can explain this adventure. The view of the mountains all around, keeping the stressful life out and good and relaxing in. The time to feel like a youngster again, climbing the loft to get to the top,and prove you can do it!!! And I did!!Harrison and Ellie, host seems so impersonal. Friends you have yet to meet seems to be better .If you want to have a Great time and meet some charming friends, Go here!!!
The perfect writer's retreat! Everything about this tree house says cozy, comfy, snuggle-up-and-read, write or take a nap. My hosts were absolutely fascinating people who made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. I felt nurtured, respected and completely RELAXED! Once you've slept in a real tree house you'll want one of your very own! I'm already planning my return visit....and the one after that... Thank you Harrison & Ellie - hope to see you again very soon :)
Great time, good laughs, enjoyed the stay. Great hosts with engaging conversation. We enjoyed every minute. Breakfast was fantastic.
I was immediately interested when I discovered this little spot on Airbnb and thanks to its proximity, my boyfriend and I were able to spend a night there on April 1, 2011. When we arrived, H and Ellie welcomed us, offered us a drink, and took time to sit and chat with us for a little bit in their lovely home, which we appreciated. They offered suggestions for restaurants for dinner and made the reservation for us (thank you). Ellie (self-proclaimed city girl) with her good sense of... More »
This place is 5 stars and the perfect break from NYC. The tree house is like no other place i have stayed at and when you combine that with the two fantastic hosts, Ellie and H, i'm sure you won't experience anything quite like it! The accomodation was clean, snug and comfortable, the breakfasts were hearty and the hosts were warm, friendly and flexible. I thoroughly recommend it!
Our only complaint is that we didnt stay longer!! Ellie and H are excellent hosts and the treehouse is amazing! We enjoyed sharing stories. H had an early hockey game but still made us delicious omelets in the morning, and Ellie's muffins were to die for. We loved every minute of our stay at Fern Forest, and we are sure to return!
What a spot! This funky little treehouse is an amazing get away. Perched amongst 4 trees with an oak thrusting up through the middle, this little architectural marvel floats 30 feet above the ground. The quiet relaxation of being enveloped by the Green Mountain National Forest was exactly what we needed. And a hottub under the stars with the snow falling was a little piece of perfection. The condo is delightful! It is steps away from the restaurants and shops downtown, and the waterfront. The perfect size for a weekend getaway or for business, it is light, cheerful and comfortable. I will definitely stay again. The owner, Harrison, picked me up from the airport, and left me cookies, OJ, and all the necessities one would expect from a hotel. Enjoy!!
If you want to stay in a funky spot then this is the place. It's like being a kid again except you're an adult and it's better. Harry and Ellie are terrific hosts - warm and generous. The breakfasts were amazing, the conversation interesting and the accommodation enchanting.
We had a wonderful time..althought I had forgotten just how COLD it can be walking around the town! The condo was in a great spot - it was just the right size for our needs - as we visited our daughter at UVM. The Reynolds family were very nice people, we felt a connection especially since we are all "educators". On our way home we talked about the "next time" we go up, and how we should book now..it is one of Burlington;s best kept secrets!!! Thank you to the Reynolds and I hope our paths... More »
We meant to spend two nights in the Fern Forest Treehouse, but unfortunately, an impending snowstorm forced us to shorten our stay (note to city dwellers like us: Vermont in the winter is not advisable without 4-wheel drive or snow tires). We were greeted with tea upon our arrival, offered wine before heading into Bristol for dinner, and enjoyed a delicious breakfast the next morning. The... More »
I've stayed at plenty of bed and breakfasts before, but the bed was never in a treehouse and the breakfast never included H.'s chocolate-raspberry pancakes! My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our stay at the treehouse. It was Valentine's Day Weekend (and our anniversary) and our hosts went above and beyond to make it special for us. They were warm and welcoming, and it was great to get to know both of them. It's a trip we'll never forget! We would highly recommend it to anyone, and are already looking forward to coming back some time in the future.
Cute. Quaint. Centrally Located. There was even some coffee in the freezer. A pleasant change from the Hilton down the street. One that I will definitely do again.
What can I say, my vision of a rural winter birthday getaway was more than surpassed, what with first-time snowshoeing in the unending acres of surrounding woodland, cozy wood scented treehouse sleeps, amazing breakfasts, and a very long vista infused hot tub soak. More accomodating hosts could not be found anywhere. Ellie and Harrison might have to brace themselves for an influx of Montreal visitors.
We had a really good time at the tree house. Never slept in one before and well beyong my expectations!!!! Hospitality was really nice and everybody was really easy to talk to. Loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Harry and Ellie are wonderful, welcoming hosts who make you feel at home right away. Breakfast is scrumptious and plentiful, including homemade granola. The treehouse is a fun, unique experience. I can attest to its sturdiness as I was snuggled warmly inside while a major snowstorm raged outside. Snowshoed in the gorgeous surrounding woods. Overall, it was a great adventure.
We had such an amazing weekend! Harrison and Ellie were incredibly warm and accommodating. It was our first real vacation together, and could not have been more perfect of an escape from the constant noise in NYC. It was private, clean, warm, and quiet. All of the previous reviews are spot on - you must come visit the tree house! We will be visiting again for sure!
Words cannot really describe how magical and perfect our weekend really was. It was our first holiday away together, and we wanted to find a place to go that was the opposite to the hustle and bustle of our New York City home. As septogenarians and on a slippery night of icy slush building up, it could have been a disaster - but it was so far beyond our expectations, magical, beautiful, and an adventure to celebrate our tenth anniversary! We had a great time staying in the Burlington condo. We were greeted by Harrison (who was very welcoming)...plus an extremely cute condo! The place had a lot of charm and was stocked with all of the essentials - except an iron but I'm a little neurotic about ironing! We were in Burlington for 2 nights and both nights walked just 5 minutes up to Church St. This was our first Airbnb experience and I'm very glad we went this route - much better than staying in a hotel!
Harrison & Ellie were very friendly and helpful. The condo was very clean and comfortable. Perfect for one or two people. Location was perfect.
We absolutely love our stay with Harrison and Ellie. They were such wonderful hosts and we so look forward to returning next Fall. It rained and snowed while we were there but the tree house was so warm and comfortable. Harrison and Ellie made us feel very welcome, we really enjoyed talking to them. They also made a wonderful delicious breakfast for us. We also brought our little preschoolers and they kindly played and talked with the kids. The twins (and us) were so sad to leave!
Wow! We spent two nights in the tree house with our twins (age 4) and had a fantastic time. The tree house itself is rustic and comfortable, and our kids thought the loft was the coolest place on earth. Harrison and Ellie are marvelous hosts. We felt perfectly at home with them the very first evening. The indoor facilities are nice and breakfast was excellent. We literally have no complaints, and we'll definitely be back!
No matter what is going on in your life good or bad Elli and H and their magical Treehouse will make everything better. The song "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin was constantly running through my mind every second in their amazing property. You can't help but Smile. Why can I only give them 5 stars? I want to give them 10! :D Harrison and Ellie were two of the most pleasant and interesting people my wife and I have ever had the pleasure to meet. We had great conversations and an amazing pancake breakfast (Harrison makes fantastic pancakes, btw). The tree house was quirky, fun and most of all beautifully peaceful. There's something magical about sleeping in a treehouse, and our night in Fern Forest Treehouse certainly lived up to our high expectations! I think what we liked best was the fresh, woodsy scent that greeted us as soon as the door was opened and the soft rattle of rain on the roof during the night. H and Ellie are gracious hosts, and serve us a delicious breakfast. We will definitely be back again. Edie and Doug H.
I Can only agree with all the other reviews. The treehouse was very nice. Comfortable and cozy. H and Ellie were also great hosts. Very friendly and helpful. A true gem of a place!
H & Ellie were great hosts. The condo is so wonderful and conveniently located to everything. It's right by the lake, a couple blocks to the main square and lots of cute shops and restaurants. Can't wait to come back again!
Harrison and Ellie were great hosts. The condo was impeccable and the information they provided us with about the city was incredibly useful. Would love to stay in one of their accommodations in the future. Would recommend them to anyone looking for a place in Vermont.
We arrived at the treehouse at night. It was late, but Harrison an Ellie welcomed us warmly. The treehouse was beautifully lit and toasty warm inside. After settling in, we took an evening hot tub. The treehouse is a fantasy come true! As soon as we met Harrison and Ellie we knew we were in good hands. We wanted for nothing during our stay: great lodging, fantastic conversation and amazing breakfasts were all included. Nighttime jaunts in the outside hot-tub were also memorable. We truly felt rejuvenated for the time we spent at the treehouse. Thank you H and Ellie, we, hope to stay with you again one day!
This spot was so wonderful. I had lived in Burlington a few years ago and couldn't stand the thought of staying in a hotel in the town I had called home. This was the perfect solution. As soon as I walked in I felt like I was staying a friends house. It was clean, comfortable and the location could not have been better. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a place to stay in B town. My only regret is that I wasn't able to thank my hosts in person.
Our visit to the treehouse was a wonderful experience. The beautifully constructed treehouse allows for creative comfort amidst the canopy of the trees. Not only is the treehouse and the experience at Ellie and H's house wonderful but the surrounding area has gorgeous mountain hikes and quaint but sophisticated nearby towns. This is a quaint little place in a great location--ideal for those who want to enjoy Burlington's nightlife but also love heading out to the great local bike trail by the water (try the Local Motion bike ferry on the causeway--weekends only). My husband and I stayed in H and Ellie's treehouse for the last night of our honeymoon. We could not have asked for a better last night--the treehouse is simply enchanting, and the entire experience was better than we could have ever anticipated. Our stay in Burlington was amazing. The place was great and had a good location. There was even a list of places to eat on the table. We would definitely stay here again.
The treehouse was a beautiful and cozy escape from the hectic week leading up to our wedding. We enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of both H and Ellie during our short stay and the proximity to Mt. Abe was fantastic. We were finally able to work off the decadent breakfast that Ellie prepared for us that morning. We have already decided that for our 1 year anniversary we will return to the Fern Forest Treehouse, if not sooner. Thanks again for having us. It was so much fun! Jeff
H and Ellie are wonderful and sweet! Close to downtown Burlington, this beautifully decorated condo was a joy to stay in! I would definitely rent from them again! Thanks to H and Ellie for allowing my stay in Burlington to be a wonderful one!
We stayed at Fern Forest Treehouse and loved every minute of it.. only one note is that you would have to be agile to get into the top bunk in the treehouse, but other than that, what a special special place. The silence of the forest, the clarity of the air and the graciousness of our hosts made it a very very memorable stay.
THE TREEHOUSE! what a relaxing four day stay. There couldn't be two better hosts than H and Ellie. They start your day off with amazing local breakfasts, they happen to know everyone and everything in town and they are a pleasure to talk to. I even started planning my next trip back on my drive home!! go go go!
I was in Burlington for 3 days/ 2 nights and stayed in H and Ellie's downtown condo. The accommodations were cozy and centrally located to City Market (co-op grocery store) and Church St (Burlington's main drag). For the price and convenience, I would definitely stay again if in the area. The condo was definitely cozy--the amount of furniture contained in the small space was staggering and sometimes made it difficult to navigate. The mattress was rather firm, but the folding down feature... More »

My husband and I truly enjoyed staying in such an awesome tree house, owned by such lovely people. Harrison and Ellie are the sweetest hosts and made us feel pampered at every turn. We love Harry and Ellie! And we love the tree house. We have now been twice, and plan to come again! Between the generous, warm Vermont hospitality to the striking gorgeous views of Mt. What a fantastic weekend! The treehouse is absolutely adorable - tiny, but so well thought-out and cozy. We loved chatting with H and Ellie, exploring the nearby towns, soaking in the spa, and enjoying their *delicious* breakfasts. Thank you so much, H and Ellie, for an absolutely perfect getaway. My partner Jess and I had a fabulous stay with H on the mountaintop. H and Ellie originally told me the tree house was not available the night I had requested as they had guests scheduled for the following night and like to leave a day free in between to tidy up. A tree house with lights, heat, a deck, a fabulous view (but no moose, while we were there.) The trip/visit was a Mother's Day gift from my daughter, Lily. It meant we had to drive 5 hours -- first on the ferry from our home on Martha's Vineyard, then through Massachusetts, New Hampshire and almost across Vermont -- and that we didn't arrive until well after midnight. H. was there waiting for us, bleary-eyed but welcoming, and the tree house was lit with twinkling Christmas lights. For us, it... More »
Spent several nights in the downtown condo. The place is very convenient and lovely. The owners, Harrison and Ellie, though we never got a chance to meet them, were very responsive and welcoming. We arrived late. They had a key waiting for us and a delicious snack and drinks for us in the fridge. It was perfect for me and my daughter while we were visiting UVM.I always wanted to sleep in a Murphy bed. It was cool, cozy and my life will never be the same! Thanks
Our trip to Fern Forest Treehouse was absolutely unbelievable. Every bit of our stay was fantastic: Ellie and H are extremely gracious hosts and were wonderfully helpful with their accommodations (and map-drawing!). Lincoln and nearby Bristol are wonderful towns, we had a great afternoon of hiking/exploring, and the time spent with Ellie and H chatting made our trip perfect. The hot tub overlooking the mountains made for a fantastic close to our evening before our peaceful night's sleep in... More »
Our stay in the treehouse was the best BnB experience we've had. Graciously received, lavishly fed and always made comfortable, Michael and I could not have hoped for a better weekend. Harrison and Ellie are truly wonderful hosts!
We had a wonderful stay in the treehouse during a break of beautiful weather. Ellie and H were so welcoming, taking care of everything for us including drawing up a map of where to go hiking and making us dinner reservations. The hot tub under the stars was magical. We couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a weekend and we're sure that we'll make it back!
The downtown condo was cozy, but furnished very efficiently and with two necessities that are difficult living without: wireless internet and a french press. The condo is in a great location with only a few-minute walk to Church St. It was clean, quiet, comfortable, and modern. We would definitely stay again and would like to enjoy the screened porch in the warmer months.
we stayed two nights in the treehouse this spring. h and ellie were so welcoming and acommodating -- ellie made us gluten-free vegan pancakes! they gave us lots of helpful suggestions about what to do in the area. the treehouse was cozy and peaceful; and we especially enjoyed the late night hot tub under the stars. they invited us to come back and stay -- and "maybe i will!"
A+++ Cindy and I just came back from the nicest weekend away we could have imagined! We had a nice side trip to Burlington on day one and then tackled Mt. Abe with snowshoes on a pristine blue sky day! Thank you both for building this incredible treat of a treehouse! Ellie and Harry are very accommodating hosts with very great ideas for things to do in the area. The continental breakfast spread catered to our (unfortunately demanding) dietary restrictions and was very delicious! Our dinner at... More »
Sorry its taken us SO long to post a comment! We miss you H and Ellie! Mimi and I visitied the treehouse on Valentines Day weekend 2010. It has gone down as an unforgettable weekend, one that made for such great memories, that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. On a personal level, H and Ellie are two very incredible people. It is not everyday that you meet a couple with such gleaming happiness and friendliness. They are as great as it gets. We are very excited to visit again this... More »
The condo is amazing! Really nice place, very easy to get downtown. We had a wonderful time in Burlington! Harry and Ellie were so nice, I'm just sad we didn't get to meet them in person. We are definitely planning to stay with them again at the Treehouse or maybe come back to Burlington in the future.
This is a wonderful treasure to come by and if you have the chance to visit we highly recommend it. Tucked up in the trees, with a stunning view, both the Tree House and H and Ellie's home is inviting and breathtaking. If you are looking for a peaceful environment to get a renewing night sleep and a fantastic breakfast in the morning, this is the place we'd recommend. H and Ellie are engaging, thoughtful, and kind hosts that make it even more fun to be there! We loved it.
Harry and Ellie are amazing, generous, kind and wonderful people who went out of their way to make Stacey's 30th birthday a truly warming experience for both of us. Stacey and I will never forget our stay in the treehouse and we are inspired to build our own someday. We were undeterred by the two feet of snow and chilly weather, and found ourselves cozy, toasty and comfortable throughout the night. Thanks again you two!
Harrison & Ellie are lovely souls who made this experience a dear experience. To be honest, I wanted to keep this a secret. Or consider this adventure solely ours. This was an amaaaaazing off-beat way to spend a few days. If you happen to visit in the winter, you may want to bring an extra down comforter (we were never cold) ... and snow tires a must. I look forward to heading up again to enjoy Mad River Glen, sipping the local brews at the village pub or seeking solace in the... More »
We had a great time in the treehouse, warm, cozy, safe. According to Ellie and Harry, we survived the windiest night anyone has ever stayed in the treehouse. It was great! The property and the main house are beautiful with spectacular views of the mountain. The breakfast was delicious. All of Harry and Ellie's recommmendations for things to do in the area were spot on (i.e. The Bobcat, Dan's Place, the Battel hiking trail, Burlington). We also enjoyed getting to know one another, having some... More »
H was an awesome host! Ivania and I had a fantastic time in the treehouse (and main house), and really enjoyed his company. We managed to not only climb a nearby mountain on a beautiful November afternoon, but also visit three of H's personal favorite restaurants in the nearby town of Bristol AND plan our upcoming stay in NYC in the comfort of his home. Great conversation, hospitality, breakfast, etc. made staying at the treehouse a truly enjoyable experience. We only wish that Ellie had been... More »
We had a great time! Ellie and Harry are wonderful hosts and great people. We loved the tree house, the conversation, and the breakfast. The tree house is one of the more unique places you will ever stay. Its very well constructed and is quite warm during colder evenings. The breakfast was delicious. We hope to return soon.
We had a wonderful time. Harrison and Ellie are great hosts - they are friendly, very helpful and they serve an excellent breakfast! The treehouse is amazing- very comfortable. Bristol is a nice town nearby with good restaurants and the hiking in the area is great. I would highly recommend a trip to visit them.
The condo was small but cozy - just right for our needs while in beautiful Vermont. Harrison and Ellie were very pleasant and welcoming hosts.
It was a pleasure to gain the honorary title of "First Repeat Visitors".
We stayed at the treehouse for 2 nights on a 3 week road trip - and it was my favourite location by far! The treehouse was exciting and comfortable, the breakfast was more than expected! Loved the whole experience, especially meeting Harry and Ellie, who I adore! I hope this place stays exclusive...I will surely be back :)
Harrison and Ellie's condo is sweet, cosy and clean- a real home away from home. They were very kind and helpful, especially when I arrived later than planned. Everything I needed was available in the condo, and it was really easy to get to town and to the Lake from theirs, although far enough away from the centre to avoid the noise at the weekend. And if you're lucky you might get one of Ellie's homemade scones!
H and Ellie are fabulous people to stay with...so friendly and accomodating. We had a great time sharing stories and snippets from a past era. The tree house is a real hoot to sleep in, such fun. We enjoyed the beautiful afternoon walk through the colourful trees and really loved meeting the locals at the bar in Bristol, thanks Harry ! Would love to see it all in the peak Fall season and in the winter too... Look forward to meeting up again one day - maybe Australia next time ? Claire & John
Amazing! We had such a great stay that we had to stay for two nights. It is an amazing experience in the tree house. We were on our honeymoon and spent the night before hiking and climbing at rattlesnake cliffs which have a truly amazing view if you get the chance. Also, take there reccomendation for where to eat in Bristol. There is a place named after an animal that made fr the best meal of our entire lives. Have fun.
The treehouse provided me with a great adventure. If you are seeking a unique accommodation, this is the place for you.
My girlfriend and I spent a night in the Treehouse as a layover between Buffalo and Acadia. We both agreed the charming little dwelling stole the show and quickly became one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. You couldn't ask for better hosts than Ellie and Harry. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
We loved our 2 night stay at the Fern Forest Treehouse. It was so unique and peaceful and the hosts were terrific. They provided everything one would need and the breakfast both days was absolutely delicious. The location is very convenient for hiking and also for sightseeing in Burlington or Middlebury. We highly recommend it and hope to return someday. Dave and Karen
We loved the Downtown Condo in Burlington. Although quite small. it had everything we needed for our 2 day stay. The owners were just great!! Walking didtance to Church Street and the Lake was so covenient.
Harry and Ellie are terrific hosts and their condo is a wonderful base from which to enjoy all of Burlington. Once I parked my car, I didn't need it again until I departed from the city, and the condo itself is compact, well-furnished, and truly pleasant. It is located in the back part of a funky old house, so the stairs creak and the floors are not quite level--totally charming! My favorite space is the little screened-in back porch. This is a great place to stay!
This was a fantastic place to stay! Very close to town adn comfortable. I highly recommend it.
It's been exactly a week since we stayed in the treehouse and I wish we were there right now! It was a last minute getaway for our anniversary and it was perfection! We couldn't have asked for more generous hosts- thoughtful, funny and caring- each detail provided for us. Words will never describe the fantastic time we had and we hope to make it back soon!!!
Despite our late night arrival and improv'ed-communication, Louella and Harry made us feel genuinely welcome in their house & treehouse, making that night a unique experience on our 6states-in-12days road trip. Unfortunately we couldn't plan in an extra day to explore the house mountain & rivers, but we had a good time talking over breakfast, and Louella, we're spreading the word on (phone number hidden) on this side of the Atlantic! f&f
Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming to stay with us! Although we didn't get much time together because we were both incredibly busy, we loved having you and had a fantastic time in the few hours that we did get to spend together. When you come back to DC, come see us, and thank you for the wonderful syrup!
March 2010We had Harry stay with us over a weekend, a treat for fellow AirBnB hosts. Harry is charming, friendly, completely modest about his accomplishments, and a great guest. We hope he comes again and brings Ellie, and we look forward to visiting his treehouse!
