My son and I just spent two nights here. I had major security concerns, like other commenters here. There were six+ keys under the front mat, and I felt that any person inthe neighborhood would know that, seeing so many people come and go that way. I was also concerned about the lack of functional locks on the bedroom doors. Especially when out for the day. The bathroom door was very difficult to close (sticks open an inch). I found it kind of creepy at night to hear other people in the... More »
November 2009The best part of our stay at Sarah's house was the flexible refund policy. Just like several people reported on their reviews and now hundreds have probably read, Sarah left us the key under the front door mat (security issue?). We weren't properly instructed as to which room was ours, but she did say "choose which one you would like" when I spoke with her on the phone, after we'd been there for 15 minutes waiting around to hear back from her. She had sent me an email with that info the... More »
The room where I stayed was neat but not the bathrooms. The bathroom shower curtains are soggy and spoilt. I was shifted twice between 3 places for some reason! I had luggages too. The cost is too high for this place. Also the rooms don't have locks!!! you have to trust humanity thats all. The rooms on other floors don't have elevators so if you come with heavy luggages then its hard. There is no kitchen and even for drinking water.
Great location. The bed was comfortable, but I was nervous and could not sleep because there was no key for the bedroom. Sarah was not there when I arrvied and left the key under the mat. When I finally talked to her on the ohone, she told me there was a way of locking the bedroom door. There was however no key for the bathroom door. The bathroom on the second floor was messy and I was not comfortable enough to take a shower. I felt lonely and not safe in a big empty house. I believe some... More »
Just got in from my overnight stay in Cambridge. This was a no-hassle experience. I easily found the key and after a little search found a nicely kept, clean room with 2 neatly folded towels on the top floor. I had a lovely, warm night and fell asleep to the torrential downpour of rain outside. I didn't get to meet my host and ran into one other lodger a few times on the landing. Sarah's house is in a great location too - easily accessible by the "T" (subway) and in walking distance of... More »
i stayed in the room w/the bed on top of drawers. the room was ok, but the bathroom on my floor was not like the one shown--it was cluttered with everything except the two things i needed--soap and a towel. bring your own. otherwise it's a great location.
Very pleasant location in a quiet street, walking distance to Harvard Square and near the subway.
Accommodation was great, bed is really comfortable and the residence is really close to Harvard Square. Some instructions on entering would be great but other than that a good experience.
My boyfriend and I stayed in Sarah's home for three nights and were very pleased with the accommodations. Sarah was very helpful and went out of her way to drop the keys to the house off to me at my friend's house on the other side of Cambridge, and she allowed us to store our luggage in the house on our last day while we took in our final day of sightseeing. The cleaners came the day I checked in and thoroughly cleaned the room and bathroom which was great because the room was quite dusty... More »
Although spent a couple of days, the accomodation was good, bed was really confortable and helped getting some rest after a whole day of traveling. The location is really great since it is a couple of blocks from the T station. I would suggest to provide some additional directions about entering the houese and use of bathrooms.
Pros: Conveniently located about 5 minutes away from T Cons: 1. Insecure: front door frequently unlocked 2. No lock to your room 3. Unable to lock bathroom door 4. Bathroom is NOT clean, and lack basic amenities (e.g. hand soap). When 3 guest rooms (~6 guests) use it daily, it gets dirty by the end of the day, and there's definitely no daily housekeeping. 5. Old linens / pillows, and comforter has many new... More »
Pros: Great location near Central Subway stop. Easy to find. Very comfortable bed. Clean and bright room. Good hot shower. Cats not a problem. Cons: No locks on bathroom or bedroom door. Front door often left unlocked. No use of kitchen as had been stated on airbnb profile. Overall impression: No thrills b & b. A lot of people coming an going. We were satisfied. Good base for a visit to Boston.
Unfortunately, in spite of the great location, we had a bad experience at Crimson's place. Sarah is kind and helpful, but It was not like staying in someone's place, but staying in an old and dirty motel, instead. The bathroom, shared with the other guests, was already dirty when we arrived, and it has not been cleaned in 3 nights we stayed there. Linens and towels were very old and stained. We could not locked our room, neither the bathroom door, that needs to be fixed. Either bedroom and... More »
great location, it's extremely near the subway and just minutes away from downtown boston. Sarah was really helpful, great stay!
Nice and quite house, bed is cozy, and the location is great.
It's pretty impersonal like a small hotel. No breakfast, no kitchen privleges, no sitting room and a pretty bust bathroom. We could have done better, altho Sarah seems like a very well meaning person who is recovering from a big injury. jack
Very convenient location on a pretty street. House is quiet and clean...no frills. Sarah was very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. House is "lived in" so expect that feel.
The location is great: close to Harvard, MIT, and 2 min from the subway station. The room was large and comfortable. We did not expect a "bed and breakfast" with a staff and service, since no breakfast was included. The absence of Sarah was not a problem to us, we managed to find a parking place on our own (during the weekend). Sarah was available when needed on our first night to give us the keys. We stayed with a 16 month child and the cats were not a problem at all, they were... More »
My experience was mostly uncomfortable. Sarah neglected to tell me where to park, the check-in time, what floor I'd be on. When I telephoned her at 3 pm to ask these ?s she wasn't home and said she wouldn't be back for a while but that the key was under the mat. She also said that the bed wasn't yet made up. I hadn't been told that she has a parking space and found it difficult to find a space on the street. I owned and ran a 4 b.r. b&b on Martha's Vineyard a number of years ago and... More »
Our stay at this home was a mixed bag. The location was fantastic and the light, airy room and comfortable bed were nice. WIFI was readily available and parking was never a problem – a real plus in this busy permit-only area. We stayed a week at this location and did feel that there are a number of improvements that would have made our stay more comfortable. Besides the caulking, mold, hot water, and air conditioning issues mentioned before which we were prepared for, the cleanliness of... More »
The place is well located and comute is easy. The house is nice and has lots of light thing that we liked. We recommend Sarah to leave more space for guests specially in the bathroom, check the air conditioning before renting the room specially in summer time, change the sheets more often and keep the cats away from the guest room.
The room was clean. I think Sarah was in the beginning transitions of hosting guests because several items were not in the best order. In the heat of the season, a fan should have been available in the room or air condidtioning provided. The 1st night we only got 3 hours of sleep due to the heat and Sarah's unavailability. The window needed fixing so it could open and close appropriately and the bathtub shower needs caulking around the edges. Our stay would have been nicer if Sarah would... More »
For the reasons many others cite here, particularly cleanliness, we ended up leaving after a night and paying for a hotel. We really appreciated the refund policy. I'm glad to say that our two other experiences on AirBnB have since made up for this one.
Great bed, great location, 3 blocks from Central Square - easy to get to on bus or subway. Sarah rents out several rooms (at least 3 but maybe 4) but sharing the bathroom was never a problem. I think I waited 5 minutes for the shower one morning only and probably could have used the bath on the other floor if I had really been in a hurry. I agree the two little cats are cute, and friendly but not a bit noisy. They were fun to have around.
It's really a convenient and nice location~ Two kitties are cute too...
This place was so great that I came back the following week :)
This place was super cute, clean and cozy with tons of light! The location couldn't be any more convenient—it's right around the corner from Central Station with cafes, restaurants, shopping areas and the Harvard and MIT campus close by. I would most definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a homey stay while in Cambridge. Thanks Sarah!
Great place, cute kittens!
