Glad we opted for an apartment - suited us much better than a hotel. The place was comfortable, clean, quiet and had all we needed. Hopping on a bus downtown was easy, and neighbourhood was freindly. Kind of felt like we lived there - great experience.

I had a very good experience with Frank and James in the Harlem apartement. It's a beautiful, super clean place, with all that you need. It's a bit hot though but I guess this is all NYC in July. The bedroom had AC though but not the living-room where I slept! The kitchen had everything and there was a washing facility for free. Frank is A LOVELY host. Very nice and friendly. Thanks for hosting us. I recommand James Aita for rentals. Heba

We had a lovely time in the Harlem Garden Apartment. The Apartment was perfect and remained very livable even in the 95 degree heat. Frank was such a nice, helpful and accessible host. He was there to meet us when we arrived and up at 4 a.m. to send us off on our departure. He even offered to mail my daughter's necklace which we mistakenly left in the apartment. The apartment is well situated in Harlem with easy access to a couple of subway stations. We easily walked to Columbia University as well. I highly recommend the apartment.

Apt is exactly how it appears in pictures, very clean, frank was helpful. My only suggestion, I woulden't walk the streets in this area to late at night. We had no problems doing so but i woulden't recommend it, take a quick cab .All in all good experience.

What a great place to stay! Comfy, clean, safe, and host eager and happy to help us with any little extra request. Incredibly QUIET for sleeping every night, even with the windows open, and we were there a week, from Tuesday to Tuesday. Our busy time in New York was certainly enhanced by this reasonably priced, nice place to stay!

Harlem garden apartment has to be the best apartment we have ever stayed in. Frank and James are perfect hosts and the apartment is perfect in every way and really feels like home. The apartment was exactly as advertised and in a nice and quiet street with a real sense of community. Within walking distance of the subway and 15 minutes to central Manhattan with convenience stores at either end of the street, what more could you want? I would def. recommend this cozy apartment to my friends for many many reasons: the hosts were so nice and kind during our stay trying to be helpful to the guests. Moreover, the apartment were very clean and bigger than expected and equipped with kitchen so we could save some money for breakfast and lunch. One last thing, parking!! If you are bring your car, you can park on the street without paying anything as long as you are aware of date and time for street cleaning. Paying expensive parking fee in NYC is really painful. I'll def. visit again in the future.

The apartment was stylishly decorated and fully equipped, from the beautiful furnishings to the well stocked cupboards full of every imaginable utensil that made cooking our Christmas dinner very enjoyable and easy! Even the small things such as Christmas decorations provided upon our arrival gave us a very warm seasonal welcome. James and Frank et al were hugely welcoming and entertaining, we couldn't have asked for nicer and more pleasant hosts: Thank you so much guys! The street was clean and quiet with amenities and shops a short easily walk-able distance away, and downtown Manhattan a mere 15 minutes subway ride away. The first thing we noticed is that the apartment is exactly as advertised. We did not meet James but Frank was delightful and could not have been more helpful. The apartment is modern, tasteful, spotlessly clean and beautifully equipped. It is a short walk to the subway and so downtown is about a 20 minute ride away, stress free. Harlem was quiet and safe with police and shopping for essentials within one minute walking distance. We really enjoied this apartment...it's full of everything: you've a small living room, a great kitchen, a wonderful bedroom and a bathroom...everything is furnished with Frank and James good taste! This apartment is very warm and the hosts too...it's like if you're in your own home. Last but not least, it's very clean, and it's supllied of washing machine, dishwasher and a clothes dryer. Just returned from this great apartment where I spent a long weekend with my son for his 18th birthday. The best thing was coming back to the quiet sleek calm interior and being able to recover after mad days out in the city. Overwhelmed by how everyone goes out of their way to be friendly in Harlem. Would definately come back. James and Frank are very friendly too. Thanks you two.

We visited Zabars and then cooked dinner for a friend who visited for the day from Connecticut. The train stopped at 125th Street so we could walk to pick her up. Everything is ready in the kitchen for cooking. Neighbors are friendly and apartment is extraordinarily quiet at night. We loved it. Beth and Jack

We just loved staying at the Harlem Garden Apt.! It was the perfect comfort to come back to after long cold and rainy days in the city. We even explored a historical Harlem bar, thanks to the telling photo on the wall. It was nice to find new places un-explored for a city i used to live in. As a fellow interior designer, it was inspiring design-wise and beyond comfortable. Everyone in the building are just as nice as can be, and super accomodating... even got up at 4am to retrieve keys back when we had an airport shuttle at that hour in the morning. Thanks guys!

We stayed here for 2 weeks and found it to perfectly meet our needs of having a comfortable place to return to after sightseeing, being close to transport (bus on Frederick Douglass ave and subway on W135th & St Nicholas), and being in a quiet street. The photos on the site depict the apartment perfectly. There were even a couple of squirrels on the back fence in the mornings. There are a couple of supermarkets, at each end of W132nd. So thanks to Frank and James for setting up an excellent option for staying in Manhattan.

Really nice place. Frank and James are great!!! They like to talk with you and if you need something...just ring the bell upstair. The apartment is clean and exactly like you see on the pictures. This is a perfect place as far as we are concerned, We loved the location.We did all the tourist things in the city and returned home to Harlem for our nice quiet evenings. We even sat on the stoop and drank wine on several nights. There is also an American Legion Hall across the street that has a full bar with low cost drinks, just sign in and order a drink or some food. Harlem is wonderful, everyone treats you great.We would highly recommend the garden apartment.

Though it has been said by all the preceding commenters, this is indeed a great apartment, beautifully designed and boasting every amenity ranging from big-screen TV to dishwasher, microwave, AC etc...It is a bit far from the center, but the subway is three minutes' walk away with rapid access to the Upper West Side, Greenwich Village & Soho. Frank was a charming host and I definitely consider this apartment a hush-hush secret to be shared only with very good friends!

We stayed at james and franks' for 5 nights and it was a terrific experience. From the booking process, arrivals and departure-james and frank were hospitable, friendly and always helpful. The apartment is spacious, well designed with care for detail and easy public transport access. The utter highlight must be going across the street for a cosy local jazz night (thurs)- a fabulous harlem experience.

We stayed here for Easter weekend and it was like staying at a hotel, but even better-- with a kitchen and a washer/dryer. It's clean, comfortable, and very nicely set up/decorated!

I contemplate honestly rating my experience, out of selfish concern of availibility, the next time I go to New York. With that said, there isn't a better deal or place to stay in New York than James's Place. Professionally designed and emaculately kept, this apt. is Royal Harlem. It was wonderful staying in Harlem at Frank and James’ place. The apartment is roomy, modern and very clean. The transportation system is great and I was able to get around the city. Locally it is close to Museum Row on 5th Avenue. We visited the Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art and a lot of other museums within 10 minute ride on the bus from the apartment. This is an AMAZING space! Private entrance. Backyard access, dishwasher, laundry!?! I want to live here full time! And the owners could not be more hospitable. One is always available to answer questions or make suggestions. They made my first trip to NYC unforgettable.
