We are creative types who left Los Angeles in 2010 seeking a richer, more serene lifestyle inside nature. Stephanie is an architect, Jay is founder/editor of Arthur Magazine. We live in the main house and rent out the homesteader cabin we own on the lot across the road. We're active in the local community and we also maintain ties to friends and colleagues in LA and beyond. We're excited to meet you and we offer you a warm welcome.

Heeya

A very lovely and peaceful place for anyone looking to go into another world for a few days. I was only here for 2 days but when I got back home I felt like I had time traveled. The night sky is mesmerizing. I stared at it until my neck cramped. I was sad that I missed seeing the partial eclipse there on Sunday because I had to leave in the morning. The cabin and the outhouse are very comfortable and clean. I'd like to come back again after the summer. Maybe I'll try a winter retreat this time.

We loved this place. It is sparse and simple in just the right way, with lots of nice little details. It can get warm in the late afternoon, but there's a big hammock in the shade. Jay was an excellent host too.

The Homesteader Cabin is THE PLACE if you're looking for a stunning desert vista replete with distant dusky mountain ranges and a shimmering, unadulterated night sky. The cabin itself is tastefully decorated- windows on all sides bring in a lot of light and it makes for a simple, comfortable and tidy space when you're not laying in the hammock on the porch enjoying the view. You know how there are times when it is so quiet the only sounds you feel or hear are those of your heartbeat or the blood ringing in your ears — Stephanie and Jay's cabin provide that solitude of quiet at any time of the day. Couple that with the endless desert horizon and staring into picturesque sunsets, you have a relaxing vacation that is unique only to the Joshua Tree Homesteader Cabin. It's an experience you can only envision by actually staying there.

We originally planned to stay at the homesteader cabin, primarily only focused only on getting some video footage for an art project. But, we were pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable Jay and Stephanie made our stay in the cabin. It was the perfect way to experience such a beautiful area of our country.

Stephanie and Jay are amazing hosts. Their cabin was magical and remote. I recommend it for an artist working on a project, someone who simply wants a retreat or a romantic desert experience. I will be back for sure!

Quietest place I've ever been in my life. Really interesting desert landscapes and critters. Pretty bare-bones but nice amenities, including artesian well drinking water, small electric heater, and lots of bedding. Outdoor shower was really cool and relaxing. Jay is very knowledgeable about the natural environment and also the man-made one: he recommended some awesome restaurants that you just have to check out, like Pappi and Harriett's in Pioneer Town. We live in Brooklyn. The Joshua Tree cabin was not Brooklyn. And we loved it. Jay was very helpful showing us around the place. Miss the stars, the quiet and the stillness already.
