I had a good time staying at Masashi’s pad in Naka-Meguro. It was perfect for a budget traveller, it very close to the train station, and there were plenty of places to eat nearby. Masashi is a fun guy and I had a great time getting to know him. He was very busy with his business ventures during the day, I didn’t mind that as I was always out exploring Tokyo. We did get to meet up at night for dinner, drinks and good conversations. When you meet Masashi’s, ask him about his Tokyo tour... More »
November 2011Had a good experience at Masashi's place in Tokyo. Room is in a great location close to a metro station at a great price. Masashi was a nice and helpful host, he gave me directions from the airport, picked me up at the station and invited me to dinner on the last night. Don't get your expectations up too high for the actual place. It was messier than I would've liked and the internet wasn't working for the first two days. However, I still believe it's worth it for the price and location... More »
Everything was perfect! Masashi is a great host, who went out of his way to make me feel welcome, and help me plan activities in Tokyo. I highly recommend staying with Masashi, if you visit Tokyo.
Staying with Masashi is a mixed blessing, but overall a very positive experience. Prepare yourself for some of the most excellent hospitality and friendliness you can find through Airbnb in Tokyo, but at the cost of a slightly uncomfortable bed and a slightly unclean kitchen. But who travels for creature comforts? Masashi is a unique resource in Japan. He knows everything there is to do. He helped me take lessons with a blackbelt master (for free even) and helped me out everytime i was in a... More »
Masashi was a very pleasant person, but unfortunately the accommodation wasn't very nice. The apartment was very dirty and the bedclothes not really suitable.
Masashi's place is in a very convenient location and has lots of grocery stores and restaurants nearby. I visited during summer and it got very warm inside the house, but that's more reason to go outside and explore during the day. Masashi himself is a busy but great and friendly host. Also a fun drinking partner! Highly recommended!
Masashi is an excellent host! He is a great resource and made my stay in Japan feel much more personal. He also is very good at suggesting places to go and things to do, if you haven't set your itinerary yet. The living space is as others has described - no frills, but safe and quiet.
I had a good time and even did a TV spot for Masashi and his new business. Thinking about just travelers though I wanted to make a truly balanced review. So here it goes: PROS: 1) Masashi can answer question that no hotel or agency would know how to answer, like about your food, transportation, and alcohol costs. 2) Masashi can give you a local's guidance to the best ways through the transportation system, which is a huge benefit as it is complex and staff at hotels and station... Masashi was friendly and quite helpful. (For example, he helped us buy sumo tickets by using his credit card and navigating the Japanese web site.) Good price and location. It's a better alternative to a hostel since you have more privacy, but the bathroom had a strong mildewy odour.
My stay at Masashi's was wonderful. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a typical couch surfing style experience in terms of facilities. However, Masashi makes this an experience you won't forget. He took me for a dinner party with his friends and guided me around the neighbourhood, which is really cozy and a short subway ride from Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi and Ginza. Perfect location. He also took a trip with me to the fish Market and a Japanese calligraphy course. Masashi is a... More »
After almost 2 years hosting, I made my first stay at Masashi's place in Tokyo. He greeted us warmly and helped us find a restaurant that first night. His place is in a nice neighborhood with easy access to the subway and nice restaurants.
Masashi is a wonderful host who went above and beyond to accommodate me. Helpful and eager, he provided me with a perspective to Tokyo as seen from a local, and even showed me around they city for two days straight. His apartment is in Nakameguro, one stop away from Shibuya -- a super convient location to and from the airport, because the Narita Express stops at Shibuya. Don't expect a whole lot from his place, however. You'll be sleeping on a mat on the ground, and be taking showers in a... More »
Masashi is Masashi -- a unique individual, a mixture of world-traveler, internet guru, and champion beer-drinker. When my girlfriend and I arrived at midnight to Masashi's, instead of tucking us to bed he suggested we go out for a drink. I learned about Masashi's many travels (especially to Thailand). His English is awesome and he really knows how to hold a good conversation. The accomodation was very simple but it will be the conversations that I remember and look back on. HIGHLY... More »
I was the first guest post-earthquake. Let me just say that everything in Tokyo seemed normal to me: the subways were packed, and people were shopping, eating, and going about their lives. As for my stay, I didn't meet Masashi since he was out of town, but his roommate Oba (sp?) was a gracious host. Generally had a good experience.
My stay was worth it. I had only two days and while I could afford a hotel, I figured that I was short on time in planning a two day tour. Mashashi's place, while very frat house student like, is not big on space or amenities, what you get is a great location which is accessible to the Naka Meguro station which is one stop from Shibuya or Ebisu. And from either Ebisu or Shibuya, one can to places like Roppongi, Harajuku(Meiji shrine and shopping) and Shinjuku within minutes. Akihabara is... More »
Masashi is a nice guy and it's curtainly great there's a cheaper option for staying in Tokyo, just don't expect much.
I didn't get to stay with Masashi because an immediate family member passed away the day before I was to arrive. That being said Masashi was very generous and offered me a full refund. I can tell that he is certainly a host with a great deal of integrity!
I stayed with Masashi in his apartment for 3 days. Its a perfect location, just 5 mins from Nakameguro Station, from which one can easily reach all sights in central Tokyo. Yokohama is also only 20 mins by train. Masashi was very friendly, speaks English well and we had the chance to get to know each other when he took me to a great restaurant in the area. I can definitely staying with him.
Staying at Masashi's place was a lot of fun. He lives in a great location, so I could get to Shibuya, Roppongi, and Harajuku in just a few minutes by train. And he invited me to join he and his friends for dinner one night as well, which was a lot of fun - I've been able to stay in touch with some of the people I met there. Definitely recommend Masashi's place for someone looking for a convenient location who doesn't mind bachelor pad living.
Masashi is a cool dude! I had to find somewhere to stay for one night and Masashi was very accommodating.
Masashi is a great host. Very friendly and kind and can give you good ideas on where to go. He took me to a great little restaurant by his apartment as well, very cool! He lives in a nice quiet area of Tokyo so you get to see a different part of it, a short subway ride from a lot of the popular areas in Tokyo as well! The apartment itself is nice enough but it could be a little cleaner, especially the bathroom areas. However, other than that, good place to stay on the budget.
I had a nice stay at Masashi and his room mate Oba. They are working very hard, but still had time to talk about cultural differences deep in the night and were interested about my impression from japan and I could ask them a lot of questions. Nakameguro is cozy and it's easy to reach most of the interesting spots of Tokyo. Would devinitifely stay here again.
Masashi and his roommate Noriaki are very accommodating and interesting hosts. Both are highly educated, intelligent fellows with a comfort level talking about any subject. I genuinely enjoyed my stay with them and probably the best part was the hosts. The location is excellent and very convenient to the metro. In the interest of full disclosure, it is a classic bachelor pad setup so do not expect a hotel-type situation in any respect; however, that is what AirBnB is about. If you... More »
The place is located in a very trendy and super cool area of Tokyo, full of Bistros and small restaurants, less than 5 minutes walking from the Subway. After my trip and knowing other areas of Tokyo if I have to choose a place to stay I will choose the Nakameguro . Ebisu area. The apartment itself is more than ok for the price, japanese futon, table, kitchen, shower, wifi, etc. Now as everyone says the deal here is Masashi and his roommate , they were very helpful before I arrived... The host canceled my reservation 32 days before arrival.
The best part about this place is masashi himself. Masashi was very generous with his time and space while I visited. It was a holiday week in japan and he actually spent his precious time off making sure I saw a quality tea ceremony and the sumo stables. Also his flat is in a great niche neighborhood of tokyo that many travellers coming to tokyo for a few days would not find. You should be prepared for couch surfing type accomidations with a very friendly and generous host. Thanks masashi!
If you're looking for a fantastic host in a cool part of Tokyo then stay with Masashi
Masashi's place is very good located in Tokyo, everything is near from there! He's also a great host, you won't regret having stayed with him, he's very helpful witheverything you need to know...! Thanks for everyhing, if I ever visit Tokyo again, I'd stay there definetely!
Masashi is a cool guy. We had dinner at a great restaurant down the street from his place. Didn`t end up staying the night as planned but he is nice guy and very accomodating.
Masashi was a helpful and friendly host who is very knowledgeable of Tokyo's hidden gems.Nakameguro is a great place to stay to avoid the high lodging costs of Tokyo and still be in the middle of the city's vibrant scene. Highly recommended!
I had a great experience staying with Masashi and his flatmate. It's difficult to say anything the guys before me haven't already said perfectly so allow me to simply second that. I too will definitely stay with Masashi again next time I'm in Tokyo.
Had a great time staying with Masashi. Nakameguro is a great part of Tokyo not far from Shibuya and if you travel during cherry blossom season you're in for a treat. If you're new to Tokyo and want to avoid the tourist traps and see how the locals live I would highly recommend staying with Masashi.
First time using this service and it went without a hitch. Masashi's a friendly, considerate host- highly recommended if you're not familiar with Tokyo, want a local perspective/guide (stuff you won't find in Lonely Planet) or just need a cheap place to crash. Central but quiet location with plenty of small shops and restaurants. Would stay here again.
Masashi is a grate guest, we were delighted to have him around during his business trip. He is always welcome back!
