Lane was really friendly & helpful during my stay there. He even offered to cook breakfast at times. The place is very convenient as restaurants, markets, california ave caltrain station & the stanford marguerite shuttle are within a 10 minutes walk. The housemates are really friendly as well.
January 2012Lane was a great host. The location is unbeatable and the room is well-maintained and clean. There isn't much privacy but the other roommates are considerate and Lane, who is organized and helpful, keeps everything going smoothly.
The location is perfect, and the room is very comfortable! Meg was awesome, and she even let me ship some business cards to her work, and had them waiting for me. I would definitely stay here again- thanks!
I stayed here for two months. The room is clean, tidy and spacious. The bed is large and comfortable and there is always a big stack of fresh bedding and towels on hand. The desk and chair are great for working at, although it is also possible to sit out in the common area or on the balcony. A lot of people who stay here are working for start-ups or tech companies, coders and hackers will not be short of conversation. Everyone I met here was friendly and I'll be keeping in contact with a... More »
My stay with Lane was excellent and I will stay again. Lane is truly running for president and is a great person to have a conversation with.
It was a good experience. I did not meet Lane because he was travelling. But his housemate Meg was very generous to me. The room is clean and in order, and so close to the village (2 min walking). It is easy to catch bus to Stanford, and very convenient to walk to the CalTrain to the airport too. I would definitely recommend this place for your stay.
It was great overall... definitely more affordable than your "typical" hotel, motel or B&B... and very comfortable, clean, very pleasant. Lane was very pleasant and helpful, too, just "as advertised" in other people's comments. The location is quiet, with easy access to downtown Saint Paul (and therefore via there to Minneapolis as well.) Even if you're not driving, the bus system is close and works well. Absolutely no complaints, it was a great experience.
We really enjoyed our accomodations. Thanks
My second stay there and it was as enjoyable as the first. Thanks, Lane
Both Lane and Meg are great hosts. If you want to find a place near Stanford University, I highly recommend you to contact them to book this nice and friendly place.
5 stars for the warmth and friendliness!
Repeat customer. Just as awesome as last time. Will stay again.
This was my first AirBnB experience and it was great. I didn't get to meet Lane as he was was traveling, however I met his roommate Meg and two other awesome guests. The location was perfect too!
Perfect spot to crash! It's exactly as advertised, nothing fancy just somewhere clean, safe, and convenient to everything. Lane wasn't there, but Meg was, and she just rules. I asked her where the nearest pharmacy was, and she told me. It turned out to be kinda far. So she drove me to 4 different ones until we found one that was open (it was late!). Down to Mountain View, then Sunnyvale, then all the way back up to Menlo Park. She's cool too, fun to talk to and full of energy. Good... More »
Lane was easy to communicate by email and the home was easy to find with his directions even in the dark. The house is clean enough but rather stark...and it looks sort of like perhaps he is in the midst of rennovating it. It would be worthwhile having a weekend painting party to spruce it up tho the living room appears to have recently achieved an upgraded status. I would stay there again.
I had a great stay and at a low price. Lane was very easy to work with to get in and out. Even met an investor through one of the other entrepreneurs staying there. Perfect location in Palo Alto.
I was in town for a conference and had a great stay here. Anant was very friendly and let me use one of his bikes (neighborhood is very bike-friendly).
Lane was an excellent host. The room was clean and comfortable. The others renting the apartment were very interesting and respectful. Also enjoyed the fantastic, central location to many restaurants and stores. Can't be beat!
My stay with Lane was excellent. Having just arrived in the country, it was great to have somewhere friendly and comfortable to stay. Lane is, I guess, a fairly eccentric guy, but he is super hospitable, entertaining and interesting to talk to. Plus he lent me a bike, which proved invaluable. Sure, I was just sleeping on a couch in a room shared with two others, but it was a comfortable couch and the price was excellent for Palo Alto. Plus the other guests were good people. I guess its... Host was very engaging and helpful, room was clean and good, breakfast simple but good....he even lent me his bike, helmet and lock ! Good location, I'd certainly reccommend this place very highly for visits to DC
Lane is a really friendly, interesting guy. He travelled for most of the 6 weeks that we stayed at his place. Being in PA near Caltrain, his place is often booked and you have the chance to meet people as they come and go on different schedules. All the other guests were considerate. Most were interns, grad students, or young professionals, though a VC partner did crash on the couch one night. The tatami is firm and takes some getting used to, but I found myself quite comfortable on... More »
Great stay, comfy bed, very hospitable... Lane is a great guy
The organic mattress was the most comfortable bed I've slept in my entire life (no joke). The place is all you need for quick stay nearby Stanford University. Not only Lane is a great host, you’ll probably make a friend for the future.
Really enjoyed meeting Lane! Clean, great location, saved me as all hotels were full. Good luck in your move to Houston Lane :)
The room was very spacious and the mattress was also great as well as the location. Except the occasional queue to bathroom in the morning, the stay was great. Lane was very responsible and sociable host.
My host for the weekend, Lane, was great company during my down time on a short trip to the twin cities for a wedding. He was accommodating and considerate, provided a clean bed and clean room and was critical in helping me coordinate some of my transportation obligations. The house is situated in an older, established neighborhood about 2 miles south of downtown St Paul and is perfectly located if you are planning on spending a lot of time in St Paul. Minneapolis is ~$35 cab ride or a... More »
Great place....Clean and comfortable. Lane is an excellent host. Everything went well with my stay there.
Bargain hunter's dream! Worth every penny I contracted for and more. Clean, modernised place. Quiet, safe-feeling neighborhood. By car, 5 minutes from downtown St. Paul, 20 min from MPS airports, 20 min from Mall of America, 20 min from Mpls downtown and Uptown. A few blocks from bus stop. Great kitchen. Host Lane Rapp a genuine people person: talkative, warm, relaxed, not controlling and full of social consciousness. Travelers who don't want to be in a space passed thru by all other... More »
Lane was a genial host, his home small, neat, and clean, convenient to downtown St Paul. I will definitely check out his availability when I return to the twin cities area.
Nice stay...I rode the city bus into St Paul and traveled early morning and late evening...adventurous, but felt safe. Room was pleasant, air conditioning appreciated. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting fellow Airbnb traveler at the house. I never saw the described permanent resident and the house did not feel as if there were one, though communication with Lane was prompt and easy.
Cool host, nice place in great location.
My stay was absolutely perfect. The place was clean, had a nice bed, and my host was utterly friendly. Lane was my contact and he was available and answered all questions I needed answered. Exactly what I expected from the listing.
Anant, the host was very acommodating and polite and kind. The apartment was very conveniently located, very bright and clean. I highly recommend this place. My experience was very pleasant and I would not hesitate to return there when I am in Washington D.C. Ewa K.
My stay at Lane's apartment was decent. Although Lane wasn't around very much, he made sure that my stay in the 2 bedroom apartment with 5 people living there total was as tolerable as possible. The location was perfect for what I needed, being a 5 minute bike ride from campus, although the accommodations left a bit to be desired. But for such a low rate, it's exactly what y ou pay for, and so long as you're looking for a way to stay in Palo Alto for cheap and aren't afraid to sacrifice a... More »
The room and house are well appointed, and the description/pictures are accurate. Lane was very prompt in his email responses and accomodating. He made the effort to correct a problem with payment, which was much appreciated. I reccomend this place!
Although this is an excellent location and Lane is a welcoming host, the living situation was not what I expected based on this listing. This is a 2 bedroom apartment and the other bedroom has a personal bathroom. If you stay in this room you will be sharing a bathroom with the 3 people living in the common room. There is a couch, tatami, and bed in the common room and Lane rents them all out and he frequently sleeps elsewhere. 5 people living in a 2 bedroom apartment felt very crowded and 4... More »
This is a lovely place to stay. The bedroom is very large and well furnished with large comfortable bed, built in Robe, and air conditioning. The Kitchen/dining area is also spacious with every amenity. The house is sited in a nice leafy green area, approx 4 blocks from supermarkets/cafe,s, with Bus 64 & 71 to downtown St.Paul(can then Bus 16 or 94 to Minniapolis if u wish to. My wife and I cannot fault this BNB and can recommend it without reservation
Lane was very good about being available if we had any questions about the reservations before we showed up. Our host Anant was super welcoming and definitely made us feel at home. The room was clean and the futon was pretty comfortable too! For a hot summer, the air conditioning was a very nice feature. The walk to the metro station was about 10 minutes and was close to some of the major DC attractions by metro. Thanks for a pleasant stay!
Anant, the owner, was fantastic! Very friendly and welcoming. I felt at home for the entire time I was there. Thanks!
Lane was a wonderful host for my week on the tatami while I looked for longer term housing in the area. There was a generously stocked kitchen and intestering company.
Lane is a great host. The bed setup is basic, but okay. The place is very close to both California Ave Caltrain station and Stanford University; the public transportation bus stop is also nearby. And there is a big chance you meet a lot of interesting people in Lane's place! I recommend you to stay here during your Palo Alto visit!
This is a great room in a great location. Lane is a very friendly host who really gives an effort to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I stayed here around four months, and the location has been great for both going to Stanford, using Caltrain, shopping and dining. The appartment is nicely furnished, and is a highly communicative space with frequent and changing guests. This creates a very welcoming and nice atmosphere, while it might be difficult for people who would prefer a more... More »
Our stay at Anant's and Lane's place was really wonderful. The house is quite big, perfectly clean (exactly as in the snapshots) and well located. But, the most enjoyable part is not the place, it is the host : Anant must be the nicest guy in Washington ! He is always willing to share his good adresses (restaurants, museums, etc.), is not afraid to present you to his friends, and makes a wonderful iced tea ! We definetely recommand this adress !
Just looking at the pictures while writing this review makes me miss coming home to Lane's!! And home it was. Lane is the ultimate host, not to mention a great friend. His excellent taste in people means YOU get to meet some of the most fascinating, creative, and accomplished individuals who come through Silicon Valley. Lane and my fellow nomads staying here provided countless learning opportunities, book recommendations, inspiration and direction, not to mention trips to Antonio's Nut House.... More »
Lane was very prompt with all my email questions. Room description on website is accurate. I had car, on street parking easy, and would recommend car for this house, especially if you are going to be in St. Paul/Minneapolis late at night as I was.
An awesome social environment, Lane is a fantastic host who has been able to get together a great selection of interesting and fun people.
Lane was a very friendly host that definitely made my first week in the valley a good one. He helped out with some preparation for my tech startup interview and organized a lift back from the city on my first day.
Good crowd, excellent location, gentleman host. Lane has people from all over the world staying here, creates a fun and relaxed social vibe, and leaves the rest up to serendipity. Two blocks off Palo Alto's famed California Avenue, one block from El Camino Real (that connects the entire valley, from San Fran to San Jose), and just a few minutes drive/bike/bus/train from University Avenue (Palo Alto's main street). Good place to get your feet on the ground in Silicon Valley and start... More »
Great stay - was within walking distance of the mall and convention center (~30 min walk). Our host, Anant, was very gracious, accommodating and a real joy to chat with. The bedroom is large enough for two people in one futon or one in the room and another in a small alcove in the adjacent hallway (if you bring a small airbed). Can't beat the price for the location. I'd definitely return.
The room is very comfortable room in a super convenient location. Anant is a very nice and friendly host. my parents feel so satisfied about this trip. The house is so clean and pretty. if we will go again to Washington DC, we will stay here for sure.
Place was comfy. Close enough to Stanford to walk. Roomies were nice and inviting. Check in time was a little late for us but we made it work. Thanks for the stay! :) Dani
My actual host was Anant. He is very kind, welcoming and helpful. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. Anant gave me lots of information on getting around the city. He even gave me ride to the train station early on Sunday morning. Absolutely recommend this place.
was suppose to stay 3 nights, I stayed one week!
Very comfortable room in a convenient location. Lane was helpful and responsive.
I could not have had a more pleasant experience staying with Lane for a month while searching for a permanent home after moving to Palo Alto. Lane is an incredible host and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome, and introduce me to the area. I enjoyed many an evening sharing meals and good conversation with him and another woman also staying at the time. The room was clean and spacious, as was the rest of the apartment The surrounding area was convenient and cute -... More »
Lane was a great host and was very accommodating of my erratic hours (it was a crazy week at work). He's a really nice guy, and very easy to get along with.
Great location. Clean. Friendly. Also met other smart and bright folks staying at the same place. Highly recommended.
Lane is a pretty cool, friendly and a laid back guy. Nice location and I had a nice stay
Lane is a great and flexible host. The place has an easygoing and yet respectful ambience. Highly recommended.
Pretty basic, but very friendly roomates and flexible with scheduling.
super-interesting scene, esp for tech types. friendly, easy, reliable. the tatami is not a fancy setup, but it's good value. location is great on this one too for food.
Courteous host, clean room. Anant gave us good tips on local transportation and places to see. He is very easy going.
A Charming House in a Charming neighborhood. Elliot and Kristin were great hosts and Lane had great communication through email. I highly recommend staying here. I needed to stay a bit longer and Lane was very accommodating. They have great animals- a kitty and a pup...so cuddly and adorable! Thanks again Lane!!
Lane was not at the house but Anant was a wonderful host. The house is very well located and it was very, very clean. I travelled with my mum and we both recommend this place. Gisela Argentina
I truly enjoyed staying here! It was a perfect blend of privacy and socializing. The room was lovely and it was great to have a bathroom all to myself. The location was fabulous - a short drive from Stanford, and in walking distance of shops, restaurants, and Caltrain. It was a real treat to get to meet the friendly, smart and engaging folks staying there and to learn a bit about startup culture. Lane went above and beyond, giving me a ride to pick up my rental car when I was worried about it... More »
Friendly hosts, good group of entrepreneurial people staying there. The social aspect was a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed my short stay.
I had such a wonderful time in DC! Staying with Anant really put me at ease because he was so warm and welcoming. His home is very conveniently located to public transit so I was able to move in and out without having to worry about getting lost. The room was quite comfy and I could not have asked for a better place to stay.
Lane and Anant are fantastic hosts. Very nice home in a quite place just 15 minutes walk from subway. If we will go again to DC, we will stay for sure here!
It was a pleasure to be hosted by Lane. He was friendly and very accommodating. He really went out of his way for us! Highly recommended.
I stayed for two nights and really enjoyed it. I am moving into my own place so just needed a few nights and can highly reccommend this place. Anant could not be a more helpful host.
on ne pouvait espérer mieux! tres jolie maison a deux pas du métro, hôte très chaleureux, délicieux diner indien, et charmante rencontre avec le voisinage, nous recommandons a 200% cette expérience. A refaire sans reflechir!
Anant is a great guy, very helpful with his information about how to get around the city, and a generous guy all around. The space was great, and a good time was had by all.
Lane was a great host! I stayed at his place during a transition period after graduation, when I was looking for jobs and then while I was commuting to work and looking for an apartment. He was understanding, friendly, and very helpful. Strongly recommended!
My girlfriend and I stayed with Anant at DC, and he's a great host who is hospitable, friendly and warm. The apartment and its location are awesome! It was an easy walk to a subway station and was thus easy to get around DC. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in DC, and a big part of it was because of the host.
We stayed on night with Lane on our way to SFO to fly home. All I can say is the organic/natural mattress was the most comfortable mattress on which I have ever slept. Oh, and that Lane is most definitley a reasonable guy. Very nice, too. Thanks, Lane!
Stay here! Good location within walking distance of The Mall (25 minutes). Bus and Metro lines nearby. The house is very clean, well furnished, air conditioned and quiet. The futon is very comfortable...in fact you would think it was a regular bed if you didn't know! He offered to pick me up from Union Station which was unexpected but totally characteristic of the hospitable kind of host... More »

Great experience with Lane and Anant. The place is located at a nice neighborhood in DC, quiet, very easy to get around and close to eastern market (free parking on the street is easy to find on weekends; apparently you can also park in his backyard on weekdays too--a great plus I would say!). Enjoyed my visit at Lane's place. Great firm bed and wonderful breakfasts. It was an adventure for me because I have not shared an open living space with barely acquaintances in a long time. If you want complete privacy, this may not be for you. I flew to the valley for a whirlwind tour of the startup world. I found that and more at Lane's Palo Alto townhouse. He welcomed me to town with a local restaurant recommendation that was quite good (The Counter) and even stopped by to offer a ride over to the house (I traveled from SFO via Caltrain) Breakfast was delicious and healthy (Lane provided an assortment of natural foods). I rented out the Tatami because I needed a place to stay less in than 24 hours before flying out to Palo Alto. Not only was the Tatami perfect, but the housemates were awesome and he even found a more permanent place for me to stay nearby. Great all around experience.
Fun, clean, respectful host who gave me all the information I needed as I needed it. The room was nice, slept on a couch and was offered a towel, etc. Good conversation with roommate and other guests. Overall, Lane made my first experience with Airbnb a good one!
Didn't actually meet Lane, but got to hang out with some nerdy/hacker types. Good fun!
I had the most pleasant stay with Lane and Matt. Lane took me around to get to know what it's like to live in this quite, beautiful neighborhood in Palo Alto. Matt, his roommate even made some awesome dinner. Being a tech-minded person, I also truly enjoyed talking to them, what they have to say about Silicone Valley culture and also about their own startup challenge. I'd definitely stay here next time I visit here. Thanks, Lane, Matt!
Lane was an awesome host. I had a super comfy stay with great breakfast options and superb conversation. laundry on-site was great, and not only does Lane have a bike available to ride around on, he even gave me a tour of the Bay area over a relaxing Friday afternoon! highly recommended!
Lane and his roommate John are Southern gents who serve up sophisticated conversation and breakfasts (that they eagerly share w/ guests). The $45 listing is as advertised - you are in the living room on the couch (and when I was there, there was even another guest in the large living room...), but everything's clean and welcoming and offers access to Caltrain, Stanford campus, use of Lane's bike, Sunday farmer's market, etc.
I sincerely enjoyed my stay with Lane, one of the most gracious and helpful hosts I’ve met. He was quick to show me around and gave me valuable tips that I would never have gotten if I would have stayed at a hotel. The location is not only close to Stanford and a vibrant neighborhood shopping street (a very good mix of dining options), but is also surprisingly easy to access downtown Palo Alto as well. The city is small and easily walked. The streets are great for touring by bike; there is a... More »
Me and two other guys stayed in Lane's place for two nights. A very affable and nerdy guy. He prepared an elaborate breakfast spread which almost justified the price in and of itself. The price for the bedroom is perhaps a bit high, but reflective of real estate prices in the Palo Alto area. It comes with its own private bathroom/shower as well.
we never met lane, he was out of town. his roommate john was very pleasant and our stay was fine. comfortable bed and quiet place, it suited our needs perfectly.
Lane and John were excellent hosts during my stay. Very accomodating and always made sure I felt comfortable during my stay. Great room in a great location. Highly recommended.
Lane is such a great guest. He's super considerate and super nice. He doesn't require much accommodations. He's also a very entertaining friend to talk with. We'd love to have him back anytime. :)
November 2011Great, great guest! It was so pleasant to have Lane stay with us. He has a great sense of humor and is an exceptional conversationalist. We had great talks and many laughs. Lane is also very clean, considerate and an all around nice guy. Yeppers, he can stay with us whenever he's in town. It was nice meeting you Lane. Thanks for choosing us.
I very much enjoyed having Lane here. He's charming and courteous. He'd be a nice addition to our household if he lived in Portland. So nice to have someone visit that helps you like a friend. I recommend him highly as a guest. I look forward to him staying again. Sheila
Lane wasn't able to make it this time, I will welcome him back the next time he can make it to Montreal, Gail
Lane is great guy. I have known him for a couple of years and had great experiences with him. He will make a great host.
Raju is a Friend September 2011Lane is a very generous and caring individual, who will pull out all the stops to make sure you have a great stay. He is organised and communicative. I had an amazing time while I was in the Valley and it was in large part thanks to Lane for facilitating it. I would have no hesitation recommending Lane as a host or guest on Airbnb.
I've haven't had the opportunity to stay as an overnight guest, but I rent Lane's Minnesota house. It has been a wonderful experience, primarily because of Lane. As a first time house renter (I'd been doing the apartment route), he offered up his furniture to help me get a quick start. His readiness to listen and his friendly nature has makes Lane the best landlord I've had.
I have known Lane for about 5 years and on yearly visits he has always brought wonderful conversation to the table, good yoga stretching time to the floor and filled my home with tiny trinkets from his travels. I am sure you will find him as charming as I always have. I would second what has already been written below.
I met Lane during one of our West Coast swings. He’s one of those laid back, smart, real people that you hope to meet, but seem to be harder and harder to come by these days. No doubt we’ll be staying with Lane during our next Bay Area visit.
When I have stayed with Lane, he offers more than he leaves for himself, whether it be piles of blankets, paperbacks, or food out of the fridge.
Lane's one of the good guys, honor bound to extend warm southern-style hospitality.
Lane is one of the friendliest and most hospitable people I know. He loves meeting new people, making him the perfect AirBnB host. Be prepared to engage in fun conversation :-)
