I've hosted hundreds of people, couples and groups through AirBnB and other sites since 2007. Because of my many positive experiences meeting and hosting people from around the world, I'm transforming my house into a full-time Guest Home.

After traveling to dozens of countries on five continents and sleeping everywhere from posh hotels to dingy hostels I found my best experiences were in the homes of locals. I now avoid the generic / sterile feel of hotels wherever I go, seeking instead to connect with real people and experience places from the inside.

This is what I strive to offer to my guests in my beloved home town. Having been born in Detroit, and living all over the area most of my life, I know it well and am delighted to share my insights with you.

In 2011 13% of the cost of your visit went to support local organizations and initiatives that directly benefit Detroit's people and communities. Organizations like Alternatives for Girls, a Detroit-based 501(c)3 nonprofit providing safe shelter, street outreach & educational support, vocational guidance, mentoring, prevention activities, and counseling to empower homeless and high-risk girls and young women since 1987.

29% improved the Guest Home property to beautify the neighborhood and for the benefit of future guests. Every bright spot makes a huge difference in Detroit's struggling neighborhoods.

58% employed Brittany and Joe, local housekeepers and young parents who partnered with the Guest Home in 2011 and continue to work here.

Had a great stay in Detroit at Nathan's guest house. Nathan is very personable and was great to work with in setting up the reservation. House is just what you want for exploring Detroit and surrounding areas - location is close to downtown, easy access off the highway, and only a few minutes by car to the tunnel to Windsor. Nathan is a gracious, helpful, and generous host. The room was comfortable , clean, and economical. I think his place can be best enjoyed during the cooler months of the year, before the neighborhood is out celebrating the hot nights of summer.

I stayed in Detroit Loves U Guest Home for almost 5 weeks. I was in Detroit for an art residency, and the house proved to be a good base and temporary home. Nathan is a good host, relaxed but attentive, interested and interesting, and the house is clean and spacious. Detroit was incredible and Nathan's house was a terrific spot for a week+ of exploring. It's easy access to the freeway, so I was able to get to my conference at the convention center in less than 10 minutes. The attic room was private, clean and spacious. Nathan makes himself available and is a very nice, relaxed guy. Highly recommend.

We loved staying at Nathan's unique guest house. There was so much space for us to stretch out and use his pole to prepare for the Michigan Aerial Arts and Burlesque Fest. I am so glad I found his place. Plus, Inyo was just the sweetest little kitty a traveler could ask for :)

This place was great! Unfortunately, didn't get a chance to meet Nathan, but he made sure to accommodate our late arrival and every thing was prepared for us when we got there. The house itself was super cool, and I'd definitely love to stay there again!

My children and I had the pleasure of staying at Nathan's beautiful Detroit home. It was an awesome experiencei my children and I felt safe and warm in this home that is full of wonderfful art and great original detail. I've known Nathan for a few years now through the Burning Man and Couchsurfing communities and he is an extremely positive, energetic force in whatever he decides to do. He is very easygoing, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and constantly strives to make his neighborhood, city, community and the world a better place. Nathan does not fib when he says he has hosted over 100 people. Lorie and I are part of the same hospitality club and we have met many of his guests, all of which have given him rave reviews. Nathan is simply the best! And so is his wonderful furry friend Inyo! I moved to Detroit last August and was lucky to spend my first two weeks in the city at Nathan's. He's been a great welcoming host and always had fun, interesting stories to share. It was the perfect way to start diving in the Motor City.
