I've updated my profile with groups!
Musician -- no, Groupie -- YES! I love live music. I average 15 to 20 shows a year. 9:30 Club, Black Cat, some of the bigger venues too. I've even travelled & booked trips around concerts. I have an electric guitar at home (which I have not started lessons for because I'm not sure if I'm a lefty or righty or a lefty who plays righty). Additionally, it has been a dream of mine to play the drums since I was 10 years old. Rock Band just doesn't even come close.
Running is a newish concept. I ran the Napa to Sonoma half marathon in July and cross trained with the Wine Aficionados. Most people don't realize there are some very good Northern Virginia wineries an hour's drive from DC. Barrel Oak and Chrystalis are two to get shout outs. I'm more of a Vodka Aficionado, but I can appreciate good grape too.
So -- if you come out to DC and like concierge recommentations and are interested in a show, good food and/or drinks.... welcome home!
Gena was a generous and hospitable host. The room was great as was the private bathroom. The home is close walking distance to the Metro and also had a great grocery store and variety of amazing restaurants within easy to get to on foot. This was my first time using airbnb. I'm sold!
September 2011Gena is a wonderful, generous and trusting host. I WILL visit again. The house and location are also great.
Cozy house, awesome bed and a good location (close to metro and supermarket). This was my first Airbnb experience and although it was a very short stay I would definitely recommend it. Getting from here to the main attractions in DC was super easy and Gena is a great host!
Gena was a great host and her house was comfortable and quirky. It was located close to a Metro stop, and also a short walk from the Eastern Market district where there was lots of great food and bars. Thanks, Chris
Where to start! The place was cleaner than most hotel room, tons of clean towers, soap, shampoo, drinking water, juices and BEER! Gina was wonderful! flexible with my crazy schedule and so hospitable! The bedroom feels like a boutique hotel, very unique, so quiet, dark when you want it to be…. I love the oversize mirror and the art. Gina clearly has some great knowledge and understanding about hospitality. The location was just perfect, I paid $14.50 for a taxi to the airport and $7 to $9... More »
Gena was a very gracious hostess and her home was charming and attractive. She was also very nice to me by inviting me to her birthday party which, although I was easily the "elder guest," was a lot of fun and her friends are nice, interesting people. Her cat, whose name escapes me, has a very pleasant personality and was good company! The location was very convenient for bus and subway access and there was a nice selection of restaurants just a few blocks away. All in all, a very nice... More »
This was a pleasant stay in a clean medium size room with a joining private bathroom. The street was quiet and the public rooms were limited to a backyard and a kitchen, stocked with all sorts of drinks and snacks and breakfast foods. I would stay here again. Not having a radio and/.or a TV was both a plus and minus. I would have liked to have zonked out with a TV but instead I had a longer and more restful overnight sleep.
It was a pleasure staying at Gena's Hospitality@HillEast. As a first-time visitor to Washington DC, her quaint house was a true home away from home. I wanted a comfortable and convenient location near a Metro station and that is exactly what I got. Oh, and the bed sleeps like a dream! Gena's friendly hospitality was great. I arrived much later than anticipated due to my flight being delayed, but this was no trouble to Gena. She also provided valuable information on transportation from Dulles... More »
gena was very generous in letting me share her kitchen-of course i cleaned up after! the location also suited me fine for the purpose i was in dc. having a food store on the corner is a big plus.highly recommended !
Gena was a fabulous host! Her home was immaculate, the bed comfy, and she was quite friendly and full of great recommendations. AND, she provided a fabulous array of breakfast snacks! If I come back to DC any time soon, I will be requesting another stay at Gena's!
Gena is terrific. She was a perfect host, even going so far as to open up her medicine cabinet to me when I came down with flu symptoms! She showered me with herbs and vitamins too. I greatly appreciated her hospitality and highly recommend her to other airbnb users.
Gena's a great host, and had no problem accommodating my late night arrival. The room is nice with your own bathroom, and the location is conveniently a block and a half from the Metro. Nice to stay away from my normal locations downtown, near Dupont Cirlce or Georgetown, and see a different part of the city. Thanks, Gena.
Gena's house is very nice and the location is conveniently to Metro. She is hospitable and friendly.
I had a great stay with Gena! Her house is beautiful, is conveniently located close to the Metro, and Gena was very accommodating with my trip schedule.
Gena was great. Her place is well-located and comfortable. She provided a comfortable place for my dad during his visit. He was near the metro and the supermarket (and of course me!). If you are coming from the arid West however (like my dad), beware of the humidity and temperature, he did have a hard time adjusting to that in and out of doors.
My stay with Gina exceeded all my expectations! I was staying on business in Washington, and would definitely stay there again. The house was lovely, and the location was perfect, just a few blocks away from the Metro. The room and bathroom were spotless, and the bed was really comfortable. Gina was a perfect host, and was very helpful in giving me directions downtown, as well as pointing out good local spots to eat. Definitely recommended.
The room is nice and Gena is a generous host. There is a private bathroom adjacent to the room for the guest's use. The bed is comfy too, with nice bedding. Gena provides towels, shamposs and other amenities. However, the room lacks a clock and a television. The kitchen has all modern conveniences and Gena provides breakfast. The house is very clean and is three blocks from the Potomac Ave. Metro on the Orange and Blue Line. It is only ten minutes from the Smithsonian stop. Gena provides... More »
Gena was a fantastic hostess. I was very comfortable at her place & would definitely consider returning! Thank you, Gena.
Gena was TERRIFIC. The place was very clean. The bed was comfortable. The location just two blocks from the Metro and then two stops from the Capitol was perfect. Gena was a lovely and gracious host. Provided everything I needed and then much more.
The room is cozy and warm, I can use my own bathroom. Location is another advantage, close to the metro station. She provide towel, full toilet product, shampoo, conditinor and lotion. She was kind and cool!! Thanks gena!!
Gena was truly friendly and hospitable; the room was comfortable and well appointed, and the bathroom, though not brand-new was pleasant, with little samples of just about anything one might need. Don't be put off by the little shabbiness of the street. Inside, you'll find warmth and Gena's true wish to make you happy. The only things that were not entirely satisfactory may have been unique to my visit: When I arrived, Gena was not there, and I had to phone her to find out where she was... More »
Gena is great. Warm and generous and a hospitality pro!! Room is great, and separate bathroom is clean and nice. Reasonably nice neighborhood, and very close to Route 95 so an easy exit even in rush hour. Bed is a little soft for my taste. I like my bed hard. As someone with chemical sensitivities, I reacted to some extra fragrance in the air due to a fragrance plug in. Gena said it was temporary and promised to get rid of the plug-in immediately. I believe her. Overall, I'd... More »
Gena's place was excellent, she's a great host!
Gena is great and the bed was super comfortable. The use of your own bathroom is also great and Her personality allows you to hang with her or leave her alone whatever you choose. The Cat is also very cute..:O) Thanks Gena I will most definitely keep you on my list of places to stay.
PERFECT! +++ Gena's place is SUPER CONVENIENT +++ metro = 4 min. walk + upscale grocery w/ prepared foods (sushi, salads, etc.) and all essentials = 2 min. walk + library of congress = 20 min. walk + Ted's Bulletin Restaurant (my new fave) = 20 min. walk) +++ And she's a really LOVELY HOST +++ left me an orange juice in the fridge every day + let me use her kitchen/dishes etc. while she was away at work + thought of everything (umbrella, full box... She is a wonderful host and her house is clean, comfortable and very convenient to the metro. She has a lot of goodies for breakfast and was very nice to have coffee in the morning and at all other times. Had a great stay and definitely will stay at her place again.
her house is THE spot in DC. I constantly return here in this beautiful nice house. The room is cozy and warm with a nice private toilet, enjoying a quiet neighborhood. Location is key. As Us Correspondent I find essential the vicinity with the metro station, 2 stops form capitol hill, 6 from the White House and 10 minutes from the airport, comfortable spots to park Gena is a master in hospitality as she's a professional hotel manager. In her house she shows this skill at best. She... More »
Gena's place was great, even the second time around :-)
We were at Gena's for 2 nights and had a great time. It's a cozy and clean place. The neighborhood is safe and very close to a lot of places like harris etc...She helped us out quite a bit the in and arounds of the city. Her hospitality was very warm n friendly. She is my Washington GPS.
Gena was a CREAT host. Two Thumbs Up!!!
"2 thumbs up!", "1001 nights", "better than 6stars Dubai Hotel" there's no better place than stay with Gena. top location, quite neighborhood, total hospitalityy, amazing bed (I still dream of it), cool friend, and gena is F A N T A S T I C ! that's the DC you wanna be and live! Everytime I'll return to DC I'll stay with gena! guaranteed by an italian journalist (that for the first time was able to enjoy the human side of DC and its amazing people!
I met with Gena to view her lovely row house in D.C. when I was considering a temporary move to the area. While I did not end up needing to move to D.C. for the prescribed period, Gena's house was at the top of a short list of places I was seriously considering. She was very cordial and professional, and her home was just as nice in person as it is in pictures. I would highly recommend a stay at Gena's place.
May 2011Gena knows a lot about DC history and all the fun stuff to do that you would never find in a guidebook. You will be comfortable in her guest room and close to many conveniences. Concierge service with a smile + way better deal than a hotel = smart travel.
Gena is the hostess with the mostest and has a beautiful home. The neighborhood has a wonderful grocery store, dive bars, restaurants, etc. and is an easy walk to Eastern Market. You won't go wrong!
