The Mushroom Dome Cabin was a great spot to stay in the Santa Cruz area. My boyfriend and I enjoyed cooking our own meals and relaxing on the beautiful wraparound porch. Kitty was very welcoming and happy to show us around her farm. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in a unique, secluded spot!

What a wonderful three days in a magical place -- the mushroom dome is a tiny (and I mean TINY) slice of heaven. Wonderful hosts, fresh eggs, gorgeous land, and an inspiring vision for the future at Trout Gulch. We can't wait to come back!

The Dome is even better than I had expected after hearing so many great things about it. The kitchenette was big enough to whip up some spring rolls, and watching a DVD in bed was perfect. We expected to need extra blankets, but the lofted area stayed toasty. Michael showed us around even after coming in late, and he offered us fresh goat milk and eggs. They really take care of you in the cabin. Verdict: go here! It's an ideal weekend away from SF.

We had a great mini-vacation at the Mushroom Dome Cabin. It's private, roomy, and well-equipped with everything you need for a few days. It's also surprisingly close to Aptos/Santa Cruz, but seems worlds away, hidden up in the woods. Kitty and Michael were great hosts - be sure to ask for fresh eggs from their chickens!

The cabin is so peaceful; it was exactly what I was looking for to decompress. We made use of the barbecue and the little electric stove top, and everything worked perfectly. The kitchenette had everything we needed - oil, seasonings, oatmeal for breakfast, etc. Connecting to the wireless is also super easy if you can't live without your cell connection. I would love to stay here again!

We had a very relaxing stay in the mushroom cabin. There are cute little hikes around the property and it was fun to meet the goats, chickens, kittens, and hummingbirds. We also got to experience an evening rainstorm lying under the dome, which was amazing. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a tranquil, rustic getaway.

Fantastic place... very, very well kept. I was expecting it to be a bit run-down, given all the traffic they get from airbnb. But it was the opposite. Kitchen was well stocked, shower was great, and bed was cozy. Everything was functional and well though-out. Will definitely come back sometime.

Coming from living in New York City apartments, my first impression was that the Dome was bigger than I expected - especially the bathroom. Yes, it's still pretty small; though it fit two people very comfortably. Do bring a flashlight if you plan to arrive after dark. It's pitch black. I enjoyed a digital detox for a night at the Dome with no 3G network or AT&T cell service. There is wireless if you can't hold off. This place is such serene, green and full of forestry smell. The only sounds that you could occasionally hear are from birds, breeze and dropping acorns, making you feeling in Shangrila. This is exactly the way i wanted to spend my weekend! The cabin was everything i expected and more! Its a lot closer to town than i thought which makes it convenient to come and go yet it feels like you are away from everything. Kitty and Michael are lovely, and the place is charming. However, when you open the door you are greeted by an intense odor of mildew and sewage...not exactly restful and romantic! I wish I had known about this smell before I booked this cabin for our one long weekend, as it really put a damper on our entire experience. If there was a way to fix (or even just mask!) this odor, I would have given the cabin 5 stars for it's charm and beautiful location.

Kitty and Michael's "Mushroom Cabin" was our first AirBnB experience and we couldn't have been in better hands. You don't become a 'Super Host' for nothing and the accolade is richly deserved. We were warmly welcomed, the cabin is fun and very comfortable (even for a 6'5" person!) and the humming bird experience was a special highlight. Goats and chickens and Kitty, oh my! Had a great Labor Day weekend here with the girlfriend. Talked water treatment with Kitty, swapped stories of having bikes stolen in Santa Cruz with Michael and shared the angst of Doggie Mrache as he stared so intently at those chickens just on the other side of the wire. Kitty greeted us on arrival with fresh veggies and goats milk from her little organic farm/garden! The dome is amazing and we did not want to leave! Not sure I can articulate how perfectly in sync I felt in the loft bed with my honey while listening to the sounds of the redwoods and Dark side of the moon playing. Our 3 yo really enjoyed the futon on the loft, the games on the shelf, the slide to the cabin (yes, a working slide on the slope!), the redwood grove with a a sandpit, and of course, the goats, chicks and hummingbirds. The cabin has everything we needed, plus great surroundings and ultra friendly and interesting host. Next time we will also bring our 6 yo, and it has enough room for our family of 4. The only upgrade I can think of is a microwave, lack of which was easily worked around.

We went to Kitty and Michael's cabin for our mini-honeymoon after we got married. The place was absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere and surrounding forest was unforgettable and so serene. We were able to get some much needed R&R and also go on some side adventures to the nearby State Park and Santa Cruz area. Although we did not get to meet our hosts I could tell from every nook and cranny that they have put so much love, attention and care into creating a wonderful place to have a holiday. Great place to stay! Redwood trees, hummingbirds, and an Eco- conscious host- what's not to like? The cabin itself provided all the basic necessities- I don't think I'll go back to sleeping in a tent anymore. Nisene National park is only five minutes away - such a peaceful and luscious forest! My two long-time friends and I had an absolutely wonderful stay here. The cabin is so cute and cozy and and the location is gorgeous. We loved waking up to a view of sunshine behind the redwoods, eating breakfast on the deck with the birds chirping and bbqing a delicious dinner outside as the sun set. A lovely place for a weekend away with very welcoming hosts. We got to take the new grill on a trial run and very much enjoyed sitting on the deck to enjoy our meal. Our family had a wonderful stay at the Mushroom Dome. Kitty was an excellent host, making us feel right at home. They live on a beautiful 10 acre property nestled in the woods. We had a great time exploring the property as well as learning a few things about living "off the grid.". While the location felt very secluded and peaceful, we we're only 8 miles away from Santa Cruz and a 45 minute drive to Montereey Bay as well. This was a truly unique experience.

Well, just look at the pictures and it gives you an exact idea of what this is. It's perfect for a lazy and cozy weekend. Kitty and MIchael were wonderful hosts. Their property is absolutely gorgeous. The mushroom dome was very cozy and very eco-friendly with the compost toilet feeding out to a lily pad filled bog down below. Staying amongst the redwoods was exactly what we needed for a weekend getaway from the valley. And it's located just an hour north of Carmel for wine tasting. We would definitely recommend and would stay again.

My boyfriend and I only had a short 1-night stay in the cabin, but it was a wonderful one. Unfortunately Kitty was away on vacation so we didn't get to meet her, but her son Uriah was hospitable and made sure we were comfortable.
