I loved staying here. Jenny was out of the country, but arranged to have a friend help us get in and get acquainted. The space is really cool and unique- very artist loft-y. It's probably not for everyone, but if you enjoy a place with some character in a very convenient urban setting, I highly recommend it. Within walking distance we enjoyed the Bleeding Heart Bakery, Habano Libre Cuban restaurant, too many tacos, Hoosier Pie, Permanent Records, Dusty Groove Records, and Swim Cafe. We... More »
February 2012Jenny's apartment is one of a kind, in a cool part of the city. This is a bohemian Chicago experience . . . those looking for pristine and sterile should go to a hotel.
Well, where to start? When my boyfriend arrived before me, there was no toilet seat on the toilet, a random cat had run into the apartment, and the kitchen was dirty with dishes in the sink. This was the initial first impression. With a closer look, the green plastic shower curtain was moldy and had quite a bit of residue build up, the bathroom wasn't very clean, there is no bathroom door, the heater didn't work very well, there was old food in the fridge, and it's kind of in a shady,... Interesting place for the right type of person, though I emphasize "the right type of person." If you're into an eclectic place with character, you've hit the jackpot. If you're looking for a neat, cozy, clean, warm apartment with shower fixtures younger than you, maybe look elsewhere. My visit was in the winter so I wasn't unable to enjoy the roof deck and it was a bit cold, which may have tainted my experience a bit. End of story: if you'd rate yourself a B+ or higher... More »
Jenny's place is very cool--it reminds me of my friends' old NYC apartments, built around the turn of the 20th century. It's so great to have a comfortable, relaxing spot that gives you easy access to downtown (via the El) and the far-more-interesting outlying neighborhoods (via bus, bike, or on foot). If you don't feel like frolicking around town, there's a great collection of books and LPs to enjoy. The back deck has awesome views of the city (assuming the weather's not overcast, like it... Loved my stay in Jenny's apartment....it had every thing I needed for my stay. It's close to public transport and plenty of interesting areas in walking distances
My 16 yr old daughter and I stayed at Jenny's place for 3 nights, and would consider staying there again. Nick arranged a mutually agreeable time to meet, handed us the keys, gave us a helpful overview of the area, and offered to assist with any questions we had later. Jenny was away, so we had the place to ourself, and that was actually fine... there's not a square inch of privacy to be had, including the bathroom which opens to the main area without a door. There's a nice stereo, with an... More »
I really liked the open space of the apartment and it was located close enough to all the transportation we needed to get to our planned activities. I brought my family and the kids liked the open space so they could let off steam after being in the car or at the museum all day.
This is a fun place to stay. My sister and I were sorry Jenny was out of town because we would have love to meet her!
We had a great time at Jenny's Apartment. The photos on Airbnb were accurate but the overall openness of Jenny's place does not come across. Her place is large and open so there was plenty of space to stretch out, kick back, read a book or get some work done on your laptop. We really enjoyed her large table with plenty of chairs to eat or just hang out and talk. There are awesome views of downtown right outside her back door from the roof. The apartment is located in a cool neighborhood... More »
Very eclectic neighborhood and studio. Definitely not for clean freaks, but makes up for it in character. Many artistic touches and full of knick knacks -- and best if you are of the low-maintenance sort. Jenny was abroad, but her nice friend Nick helped us get acquainted with the place. Wish we could have met her and enjoyed the hospitality described in the description and some of the other reviews!
The picture of the people having a party is a tad misleading. This is an interesting place for the adventurous. If you're a clean freak, I'd pick another place. The hostess was out of the country and that could have been a factor, but the kitchen was very cluttered and whoever used the coffee pot forgot to empty the grounds. We don't know how long they were in the pot, but they were very moldy. We had coffee at the Swim Coffee Shop down the street. But we didn't have a bad stay. The 'loft'... More »
My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay at Jenny's place. It was just what we were looking for - inexpensive and convenient, and definitely with its quirks. In terms of the actual accommodations, you should know in advance that you are not staying in luxurious accommodations. You're getting a unique experience at a super convenient location! It is a great alternative to a hostel. There are some fantastic restaurants in the area. Jenny's gallery/apartment is a good place to stay if you plan... More »
Jenny was very helpful in giving us directions to her place. Unfortunately she couldn't be there during our stay, but it is probably for the best as it only sleeps 5 max, including 2 in Jenny's bed (and we had 6 people with 2 sharing a single bed). The place is a fantastic price for Chicago, and quite easy access to the city, but it is very basic.
Jenny was a wonderfully involved host. Even though she was out of town, she still made arrangements with neighbors and friends to insure that our stay was comfortable and informed. We kept in touch through expeditious email correspondence, which was always helpful since Chicago is still pretty foreign to me. The apartment and neighborhood was more interesting than mentionable in writing and photos. The apartment is located in a colorful neighborhood surrounded by great little restaurants and... More »
jenny's place was great! she lives in a colorful neighborhood that's bustling w/ all kinds of activities. just a morning walk away from all kinds of shops, cafes, & bars. loved it!! we also suggest bringing a bike if at all possible, as we did & it offered up so many more possibilities. we rode all over downtown, to millennium park, all down the waterfront, the art institute. chicago is rad & jenny's loft is a very affordable way to see it. just compare for yourself!! thanx jennnny, xo sid
As my very first Air B'nB experience this was AWESOME! The space is so quirky and spacious, light and comfortable with everything you could dream of needing all available to you: A huge kitchen, comfortable beds, a free-standing bath/shower, and even a record player with an AMAZING collection of records. You are close to a funky area, a lovely park (Eckhart Park), awesome coffee (Swim Cafe). And if you're up for it, you are immediately adopted by the wonderful rooftop neighbours/family. The... More »
I don't know if Jenny's communications with me got lost in cyberspace, but I arrived at her gallery/apartment to find she had gone to Europe. Understandably I was concerned, particularly as I had had contact with her four days previous to my arrival in Chicago and she hadn't mentioned going away. I wondered where I was would stay in Chicago. Fortunately, her friend and neighbour, Neli, came to my rescue and I was able to stay in Jenny's apartment by myself. So thank you Jenny for... More »
Jenny's place is a pretty convenient location - a few blocks (~0.4 miles) from the Blue Line and a bus stop right out the front door - easy access to the city. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Jenny was not able to greet us or be present at all during our stay, but she coordinated to have her neighbors let us in and check in periodically to make sure all was taken care of. We simply needed a place to sleep on a last minute trip, and Jenny's place met our needs!
Jenny was an excellent host -- attentive, friendly and accommodating -- and her place was great for what we needed -- a nice place to sleep and shower that’s close to the trains! My boyfriend and I had never been to Chicago before, but her directions from the airport to her place were easy to follow. Her place is about 4 blocks from the blue line in Wicker Park/Noble Square. There were plenty of buses, and it was easy to walk to the station as well (about a 10-minute walk). We even walked... More »
Jenny is a very gracious host. The apartment is well located and very comfortable. Street parking wasn't a problem. Jenny has a great feel for her guests and their needs.
I recently stayed at Jenny's apt/art gallery for two days and one night, and had a great time. Whether you're looking for a host who can spend some time with you around Chicago, or one who is more hands off, I'm sure Jenny will accommodate your needs--so long as you let her know ahead of time what you'd like, and that it's within reason! Jenny herself is a charismatic host, with many stories to tell. During my stay, Jenny and her neighbor (also an AirBnBer) extended a dinner... More »
Jenny Know’s B&B is for the adventurous, offbeat, slightly bohemian, and flexible travelers who would enjoy having their stay be a real social part of their trip and would prefer not to pay the major prices you will mostly find in Chicago. Guests will have every chance to meet the neighbors on the roof just outside Jenny’s back door which serves as a social place for all 6 apartments on warm evenings and coffee sipping mornings. The accommodations consist of a large 1-room loft for both... More »
Jenny is absolutely delightful. If you are looking for experience off the beaten path this set up is for you. You will be staying with Jenny in her large loft apartment. +60 year old males MAY feel slightly awkward. It is the kind of arrangement our 30-something children really enjoy, but as 60-something professionals we found the accomodations slightly too Bohemian.
Jenny is super nice! She is very accommodating; wants to make sure everyone has the experience they need, and introduced us to lots of interesting people who were a handy wellspring of Chicago know-how-- Jenny included! This is such a wonderful city, and Jenny's nigh-central location was purrrfect for anyone that wants to explore the city but doesn't want to get pigeon-holed in some outta the way borough. We brought our bikes and got to see so much in such a short time!
Jenny was a lovely hostess, and the space was also lovely. I spent some time with Jenny and her neighbors and learned so much about Chicago, the art world, long-distance running and so much more. Thanks for the great stay!
Jenny is a natural hostess. She is thoughtful, full of energy, a great cook and makes a killer cappuccino. She is very knowledgeable about Chicago, especially about the art scene. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. I found free overnight parking very near by on a safe quiet street. I would recommend Jenny to anyone looking for a place to stay, particularly if you don't know Chicago very well. After one night talking to Jenny, I feel like a native Chicagoan.
Jenny was a great host, we had a wonderful time in a great neighborhood.
Jenny is a great, gracious hostess. She gave us suggestions for eating, haircuts and other. Parking was a little tight, but that was not her fault, there were weekend goings on at the nearby church and school. We had a great time visiting and connecting with friends (a neighbor was from our town). We had a lovely time and wish weather had been better so we could have spent some time on the roof top.
Jenny is a warm and gracious hostess. We enjoyed our stay and her helpful comments for getting around and eateries were welcome. Parking was a little difficult but that was because of Palm Sunday related activities. She made us eggs and raspberry pancakes for breakfast. Thanks!
Chicago was great- I ate the whole place down! Also check out Turbodog Spirit Centre for kick ass yoga!
Although we were unable use our reservation due to some issues with our flight Jenny was a very helpful in the planning of our trip. We look forward to a time when we are able to make it to Chicago. It was our first time dealing with Airbnb and that part of the planning was very good and easy. Would recommend, although we did not actually get to experience the hospitality in person that everyone else raved about.
Jenny prepared great breakfasts, invited me to join her friends on the sunny back deck, and was very considerate - and she loved spending time with my dogs. Walking around the back streets, finding a quiet bar, was very peaceful compared to the noise and activity of W Chicago Ave.
My stay with Jenny on March 29th was my first Airbnb experience and it couldn't have been a better introduction. She was fantastic! She not only helped me in many ways, but went out of her way to make the visit memorable and fun. She told me about the interesting area near her place, the Ukrainian district, where I took a walk the next morning. We got along so well that it was like visiting an old and special friend. I will look forward to staying there again when I go through Chicago and... More »
Jenny was absolutely awesome. She really helped out with getting oriented around the city and pointed out some really awesome places to eat. She was an absolutely awesome host who is full of ideas, but sometimes it is essential to tell her "no" to be able to guide your own experience of Chicago as you see fit. Also, the shower was disappointing; however, Jenny did try to fix it, the problem seemed to lie with the poor piping of the building. I have to say that through and through Jenny was... More »
Our trip was absolutely amazing and Jenny definitely helped make it so. She went above and beyond to make sure everything worked out well. When we first arrived at her apartment, she helped us get settled in, and then introduced us to some of her neighbors who were all very cool, and then she showed us around the area. She is very knowledgeable about the area, had great ideas of places for us to go out at night or to visit during the day, and her neighbors also chipped in ideas. In the... More »
Where do I start? Jenny was an absolutely amazing person to book with! She met me at the bus stop with a big smile and a hug and her hospitality and kindness was endless. Staying in the Art Gallery/Apartment was definitely an experience, and everyone I have shared Airbnb with finds it very intriguing that I was able to book and stay in an Art Gallery. I loved the space, it was lovely to wake up in the morning to soft light through the windows and art pieces all around, and yet still feel as... More »
Jenny is amazing and I mean amazing. Our stay in Chicago was unforgettable and awesome. Since returning to London, most conversations have been about the fun we had with Jenny. It was one of the best holidays ever and I shudder to think of the different trip we would of had if we'd stayed in a crappy hotel. The Studio is an awesome space, big light and full of cool stuff Jenny has collected over the years. She had a really cool spotty multicoloured painting brilliant speakers and great... More »
Jenny's a very kind person, I felt very welcome throughout the stay. The space is really cool if you like older architecture / high ceilings like I do. The bed was very comfortable as well. Large shared room with divider at the far end where Jenny sleeps. Had a great time sharing stories over dinner with Jenny and her neighbor, who brought over some really delicious food. Thanks to both for a nice visit.
My stay with Jenny was absolutely fantastic. She was entirely accommodating for my entire (albeit short) stay - she adjusted her prior plans in order to meet me at the apartment on the day of my arrival, and we had a great afternoon going for lunch and thrift store shopping together. The apartment itself is very neat - I especially loved the bedtime clock - but the stay was made truly memorable by the great time me and Jenny had together.
I enjoyed my stay at Jenny's very much. The apartment is close to the blue line, and a bunch of really cool shops and restaurants. This was probably my most "touristy" adventure so it included many of the Chicago museums and landmarks. Jenny knew what direction to point me in, and also had a great idea of where I would find myself having a good time. We shared some really great conversation, and she introduced me to many of her great friends. If I ever go back to Chicago I will be sure to... More »
It is difficult to write a summary for our EXCELLENT weekend, because nothing I have said about the trip has done it justice. Jenny is a caring, vibrant, loving ,and open woman. She shared her space and her life with us without forcing anything on us. She was always anxious to make us coffee, excuse me gooood coffee, and a hot breakfast each morning. Staying with Jenny was truly a good experience. Jenny is extremely helpful and has huge knowledge about the city. It has been a pleasure to stay at her house and getting to know her.
Jenny is an extraordinary host. Her shared artist loft space - I got the big bed in the front area (divided by a wall, but not a separate bedroom, but no worries) created the perfect complement for my Chicago art scene experience. I was visiting my son (@BendowArt) for the SAIC Parents' Weekend visit. (airbnb should connect with the school.) She knows the bus and transit routes like the back of her hand. The latte and light fare in the morning were appreciated. No problem coming and going in... More »

Ah, Jenny! I had such a great time staying here. Meeting and hanging out with this lady was a definite highlight of my time in Chicago. My partner and I felt welcome ,safe and trusted. She is totally inclusive and went beyond the call of duty in order to accommodate us. Jenny knows a lot about music and art and has lived in Chicago all her life. Jenny was a fantastic host! She fed me breakfast and had me over to a dinner party upstairs with her neighbors, not to mention guiding me around the city. I had a great time and I'd definitely recommend staying with her :)
We really enjoyed our stay at Jenny’s apartment. We got to know her as a very warm, open-minded, humorous person and felt very welcome. As a local she knows a lot about Chicago and can give you good advice. You should pick this apartment if you are interested in staying at a not-so-common apartment in an off-mainstream neighborhood. Plus: great breakfast and coffee included!
Jenny was a sweetheart. She introduced us to her building neighbeors and friends in the area. It was very nice to have her so open and accomodating.
It was the most intereting place I ever stayed while I 've traveled a lot of cities and countries. I got there in a late evening and I just stayed in a backgarden till midnight having dinner and beer with Jenny and her neighbors. They were really warm and nice people. Everybody brought their food down to a garden and cooked together. It looked like a family and they never let you be a stranger alone. And Jenny, yes, she was a really incredible person. Loved Jenny, and the place is way cool, has a fun community vibe with the other building tenants. Jenny knows Chicago really well and give one good tips about what to do, the bed was really comfortable, really interesting books, she loaned us bikes which was great. We enjoyed our conversations with her very much.
Jenny was a consummate hostess. Very friendly and accommodating, helpful about the area, really made us feel comfortable. Certainly not a traditional space, but that is something we loved about it. The neighbors form a great community that were also very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed meeting all of them and would stay here again any time we go back to fabulous Chicago.
Jenny was an amazing host to me and my boyfriend, Duncan. We felt comfortable immediately in her open concept space. It wasn't very private- which we knew going into it - but Jenny was had her own things to do and gave us space. That being said, she was more than accommodating i we had any request or question and she went so far as to introduce me to many of her friends in aid of my search for permanent housing in Chicago.
