Mix feelings. The location is superb. The owner is really friendly and extremely helpful. The actual apartment is definitely spartan (thinks like the lack of a simple table lamp are really puzzling), but after all it is not a hotel and it's quite affordable, by Rio (mad) standards.
I'm so happy that I've met Jake and chosen his wonderful apartment from all other! It was the best choice that i've ever done about planning my trips, no doubt! Jake is kind and hospitable guy, who resolves all the questions in the same moment. The apartment is absolute calming, cosy and peaceful. And there are all the things you need: kitchen with a big fridge, bathroom, air cond and ventilator. But the greatest thing in this apartment is the view from the window!!! In the sunrise you see... Again, Jake was a great host, fun guy and without a doubt the best choice!
The apartment is nice, in a very safe area in Rio and just a 5 minute walk away from the beach. Enjoyed it very much and will definitely be back soon!
Even though Jake was not around when I arrived there, his friend made sure I could enjoy my stay. 2 minor things weren't working properly, but it didnt bother me too much, because the location is great (great view on the ocean). Overall I would stay there again. And Jake is a cool guy, always responding pretty fast.
Jake's apartment is perfect for someone who doesn't want to stay in the overpriced, charmless service flats and anonymous hotels that are the standard in Rio. It's less than a ten minute coastal walk from the shops and bars of Leblon, but in a green world of its own overlooking the ocean. It's literally right opposite the Sheraton, in an old mansion a short flight of stairs up from the main road and the police post. The place itself is clean and well looked after, with a lot of light and all... More »
I met Jake in Argentina in 1997 and we have been friends and travel buddies ever since. He moved to Rio in 2004 and I moved to the north of Brazil (Salvador) 2 years later and since then we meet 2 or 3 times a year. I usually stay in his place when I go to Rio and I would say he is one of the most special people I know, not only in Brazil but in the world. I remember him when he didn't even speak Portuguese but he really made the effort to study and now he sounds exactly like a true... More »
I've known Jake for seven years now and in that time he has become a good friend and travelling buddy, and a true companion at the beach and bar. Since I moved to Rio four years ago, I've seen many gringoes come and go, but Jake abides, living the dream in what is quite possibly the best ocean front view in town.
