The room is clean and the bed is comfy! The little fridge in the room is very handy for keeping beer/cold-meats/etc, the supermarket is only 10 mins walk. The location is very convenient for quickly getting right into the centre, I would advise getting a bike though (something I didn't do), it really is easy getting around on one.

Harm was greatly accommodating. We had a fantastic and comfortable stay and would be very glad to stay again. Harm had all of the information we asked for and was always helpful. The room was small but it had everything we needed and made for a very relaxing stay. My friend and I found the room to be very cosy and exactly what we needed in Amsterdam. Although we were a little worried that the place looked to be rather north of the city, it is actually in a very convenient place! Also Harm, the host, was very nice and provided us with anything we could have ever needed including towels and a refrigerator! If you are looking for a convenient and comfortable room near the center of Amsterdam, look no further!

Very cozy stay in this house/ room. The host is very kind and friendly, helps a lot with instructions and whatever you might need. We never expected to find every detail in the room so carefully thought of. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Amsterdam.

Very quiet neighborhood, that is very close to the city center - value added place for all budget travelers. Mense is very pleasant and helpful, and he drove me to his place when I first arrived which is less than 10 minutes walk away. I slept very comfortably in the cosy bedroom, with TV and video facilities. Coffee and tea is provided which is great. You will find many other conveniences in the room like maps, DVDs and tourist guides.

The owner greeted us the first day, showed us the room and lent us his microwave. Thanks for that. In terms of the room, we want to be totally honest, we found the room not to be clean as we would have expected; to be more specific, the bedcover looks like it has never been washed before. Mense was very helpful from giving me directions to his home from the airport to how to get around the city once I was there. He was helpful but at the same time respected my privacy. The room was as described with a bathroom next door, perfect for what I required. The whole trip was wonderful and I am very happy I chose this location to lay my head down at night. It is in a safe neighborhood and a short walk after a ferry ride from the city. Great trip, very nice accommodations!

The room is exactly as it is advertised... small and cozy. It was an amazing location, close to everything that we wanted to do in amsterdam, as it was a very convenient 24-hour ferry ride to the central station. The neighborhood was quaint and safe. Mense was great about telling us how to get where we needed to go and what there was to offer in his neighborhood. It was a nice and safe room. you have what ever you need. Mense was a great man.he was so kind and friendly. we had a short ferry trip to reach the other side of Amsterdam from the train station,he kindly picked us up at the ferry we had our privacy in the room. I had a very good sleep after one day walking. The house is situated in a very quiet and nice neighborhood. the location is perfect to visit Amsterdam. Room is just as advertised, small, but cheap and comfy! It's in a real good area too and the ferry is really easy and not a hassle in the least. Mense is a nice guy and picked us up at the ferry to show us to the house. He gave information on bike rentals and other things and lent us some maps and books to use while we were there. The room is accessible by hallway without having to walk through his apartment, so it's almost like your own studio or something. Good stuff.

The advantage was the low price and the experience to comute to the bedroom by ferry. For the low price you get a little comfort. A special drawback for us was the bathroom of about 2 m2 area, including toilet, not well ventilated and therefore covered by mildew. Moreover shared with the family. This nice little room is only a 10 minute walk and a short ferry ride away from the center of Amsterdam. The ferries run every 5 minutes or so and we never had to wait long to catch one. Mense picked us up at the ferry station our first day and showed us to the apartment. He was a good host and gave us much privacy during our stay. It is a good value for the price if you are looking for a clean and comfortable place to sleep and shower after exploring the city.

Cozy room in the nice neighborhood. The neighborhood is calm and nice, and yet very close to the city center. Very good to stay for not a long time in Amsterdam. Mense is a great host, very thorough and nice in conversation.

Thanks again for another great stay. The location is perfect for visiting Amsterdam and it's in a quiet neighborhood. I will be back again since it's a nonstop flight from my hometown to Amsterdam. We were on a bit of a crazy mission, which i won't describe here - we were kind of just passing through, but enjoyed Amsterdam massively. The area is quiet and family-orientated, literally a 5-10 minute walk to the ferry which takes 30 seconds to cross into Amsterdam centrum. Was an awesome place to stay! Very cozy and the host was extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the area. We rented bikes so it was very close to the center, would definitely stay there again:)

The host has done this many times and knows the routine well so arrival is easy. The room is as described - cozy, with free coffee making by the bed - and the shower next door is pretty well yours alone. The host lives there but is very unpushy so it is quite private. The room is in a placid suburb away from the city (with a few eateries nearby) so you need a little time to cross on the ferry to get to the action but the crossing is free and takes only minutes to get to Central Station so... Mense was very nice and welcoming. He even lent us a parking disc, so that we don't get a parking ticket. The room is cozy and comfortable. The neighbourhood is very quiet, which is perfect to get a good sleep. It's extremely easy and fast to get to the city centre by the free ferry.

Great location. A nice suburb near central, yet not touristy. I felt like a temporary local when I took morning ferry ride. Pick up coffee while waiting for ferry at ijplein. Mense was an excellent host! He had everything you could think of and picked us up like he said. He also gave us tips on where to go and how to get there. It is located in a quiet area and we felt safe walking back late at night. The ferry is walking distance and it took about 15-20mins to get to the craziness of the city. Mense was very respectful of our privacy and let us be on our way after giving us advice. If you are a traveler on a budget, this is the place to stay. :) :)

To me, Mense is not just a host but more like a friend as he seems to understand how a mother would feel when she let her son out on his own for the 1st time. We were pleasantly surprised with how many extra touches the room had, and how neatly organized everything was. It was the only private room we stayed at in Europe which had it's own refrigerator and a screen on the window, which was exactly what we were looking for, after getting bitten alive in Bruges. This is a great location in Amsterdam and Mense is a kind and considerate host. Our arrival coincided with a thunderstorm and Mense was kind enough to find an electric fan so we did not expire with the heat and humidity! Because the house is so handy for the city centre we were also able to leave our bags there so as not to carry them around on our last day. Taking the free ferry across the IJ also made us feel like real locals and only added to the experience Thanks, Mense

Mense was great. He made sure I knew all of the important stuff (where to eat, how to use all of the locks/keys etc) and then left me alone. It was a quiet place in a neighborhood that was away from the bustle of Amsterdam center, but minutes away by foot and ferry. Highly recommended.

The place is small, quite and close the central staation,. There was milk and coffee for free as towel, glass, spoon, fast wifi connection, etc... Mense is very kind and polite and take me in the ferry.... Very recommended and for sure want to stay there again in my next visit to AMS....

Mense's lovely, cozy room, in his quiet neighborhood is perfect for easy access to all of Amsterdam's sights as well as a great starting point for cycling the extensive network of countryside biking routes. Mense is very careful to provide for all a guest's possible needs and so helpful with advice and recommendations.

Perfect spot for exploring Amsterdam....in a local neighborhood, not in the busy touristy section, which is perfect if you want to see more to Amsterdam. Mense was very kind and the room was private with its own key. I highly recommend this for a couple or one person and will definitely come back to stay!

Mense was a very kind and gracious host. The room was clean, well stocked, and nicely decorated. In a quiet little neighborhood that's nonetheless very convenient to Amsterdam proper (the short, free ferry from Central Station runs 24 hours) I would gladly stay there again. Highly recommended!

The place is located really convenient - only 5 minutes from Central Station, but in a very quiet residential area. The room is decorated with carpets and lots of furniture what may be not always appropriate for those who are allergic, but it also has a small fridge, kettle and tea set, which is very convenient. The host was very helpful, picked us up on the ferry station and respected the privacy of guests very carefully. In fact, we stayed at Mense's place like in our own apartment.

We stayed at Mense's place for a week. The room is small but really cozy, and there's a small bathroom in the hallway. Mense was a wonderful host who totally respected our privacy. He picked us up at the ferry the day we arrived and also gave us a lift when we left. We loved the ferry-ride to and from the center of Amsterdam (the ferry is free and it runs every few minutes 24/7). We liked our stay and would recommend staying with Mense.

Mense was a good host, courteous and helpful. The bedroom is small but equiped with a small fridge, a water boiler, spoons, nifes, etc, so we were able to have a complete breakfast before leaving for the day. The bathroom is a bit small but clean. The location is great: very near the city center. We enjoyed crossing the river on the ferry everyday to get there (a 3 minute trip). The district was nice, quiet and linked with a ferry (which by the way was fast and fun) to central Amsterdam. Mense has prepared a very comfortable room and very complete. You have spoons, forks, tea, ... Also noteworthy is an excellent location. Within a very quiet, nice and in front of a playground for children. Mense is a great host of the ferry that brings you home. Recommended for a few days in Amsterdam.

We had a wonderful stay at Tenderhero's place. He was kind, curtious and very nice. On our first day he picked us up from the Ferry drop point which was very nice to frazzeled travelers. In addition, he had helpful pointers about the town, where to shop etc. The accomodations were clean, quiet, and comfortable. He has thoughtfully provided instructions on how to use the TV, and washing machine (which I unfortuantly found too late). Overall we had a wonderful experience.

my wife and I had a wonderful 1-night stay in Mr. Tenderhero's home. He's very kind to pick us up from the ferry pier. Though room is small but adequate. Felt very comforting to realize that it has a small fridge, though not needed for a night stay, great that it has a electric kettle for us to boil water since it was still cold for the weather.. This room is just the best if you want to be very close to city centre. Very airy, clean, comfortable and full of amenties (kettle, tea, tv +dvd, maps...) The area is safe and you have everything you need around you (market, park, etc...) Mense is very helpful host, picked up us on ferry to show us the way to his place and explained everything. W will definitely stay with him if we come to Amsterdam again.

We only stayed one night, our first night in the Netherlands, and this was our first AirBNB experience. I love AirBNB!!! The ferry was easy to catch and fun! We were greted immediately and at a time of our choosing. We were able to settle in and eat at a reasonably-priced dinner. We had everything that we needed and more -- coffee and tea facilities, movies, etc. A great stay and a great way to start our trip!

Our 4 night stay here was great. Mense was gracious enough to pick us up and drive us to the apartment which was about a 10 minute walk from the ferry. Great location, Mense providing transportation on our arrival and departure to and from the ferry terminal is fantastic. Being able to use the washing machine is an added advantage for us as we were in Amsterdam for five days and will be heading for Geneva after that. Thank you Mense.

We had trouble with our mobile phone and were unable to take up his generous offer to pick us up from the ferry, but conveniently his apartment is a very short walk from the water. Mense is really kind and picks you up (by car) at the ferry station on the opposite site of the Amsterdam central station and even brings you there when you leave. The appartment is in a quite region very close to the city center. 5 minutes walk to the ferry station that brings you in 30 seconds for free to the Amsterdam Central Station where the city center begins. You have your own refrigerator in your room which is also a plus. It was a very nice stay and I would choose it again.

My boyfriend and I only stayed at Mense's place for one night, but from my experiences, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. As many people have already said, the room is at an ideal location and Mense is a great host. The ferries run 24 hours per day and they run frequently. Our stay in Amsterdam was wonderful and much of that can be contributed to our warm & cozy room at Menke's. It is very conveniently located (about 10 min. from Central Station - a few minutes on the free ferry and about 8 minutes walking) and yet is also very peaceful and calm - a nice retreat from the bustle & noise of much of Amsterdam. Mense was an excellent host. I honestly cannot recommend him enough. He picked us up from the ferry the day we arrived which was so thoughtful of him considering our heavy luggage. He was very hospitable and encouraged us to let him know if there was anything we needed. He also really respected our privacy and left us to our own devices. My stay at Mense's was very comfortable and he was an incredibly accomodating host. The room literally had a bit of everything he thought his guests would need; such as a water boiler, tea/coffee, television, fridge, utensils, and maps and guides to Amsterdam which helped us a great deal. He even picks up his guests from the ferry! Location is very convenient as well, only a 10 min walk to the ferry and then a short ride across to Centraal. Overall, great price and experience. Mense was very nice. The location is not in the center of town, which is worth considering as a potential guest. The hot water ran out on Day 1 and the towels were a bit mildew-y (but you can bring your own, which would solve that problem). Overall good value for the money.

Really enjoyed my stay and Mense's place. We had our own privacy and entrance. Mense and his family are really nice and friendly. It was about 10 mins away from the central which was very convenient. Overall I had a great time in Amsterdam and really enjoyed staying at Mense's house. I would definitely stay there again if I visit Amsterdam again and I highly recommend his place.

Mense was a fantastic host. The location was very good and the ferry system ran 24 hrs a day which meant it was possible to get home at any hour. Mense picked us up from the ferry, and dropped us off the following day which was very generous. I would definitely recommend Mense's room.

Polite, picked us up from the ferry. We could come and go as we wanted with our own key and he also looked after our bags before our flight on the last day. Room is in a small flat in a good location for getting quickly and easily to the centre of the city. Bed is a fold out but was still reasonably comfy. Bathroom is very small but perfectly adequate. Lots of thoughtful useful things like a small fridge, plates and forks, basic toiletries provided too. Lovely antiques in the room!

A very comfortable short-stay. The place is away from the busy Amsterdam city center but it's just a short walk plus a free ferry ride away! Mense was really nice and accomodating. He picked me up atthe ferry and brought me back to it when it was time to leave. It is great to have a fridge in the room and he has bowls and utensils in case you bring your own food.

The apartment is convenient, with a separate entrance so you don't have to walk through his home to get to your room, which is nice. Mense was very helpful during our stay in Amsterdam. He picked us up from the ferry spot and drove us to his house. The room was nice, the bathroom nice, and the Internet worked great. Mense is a great host! He picked us up from the ferry that is directly across from The Central Train Station in Amsterdam. He gave us great information about where everything is located in the city. His home is in a great location being a short 10 minute walk to the ferry. The bedroom is neat and he supplied us with towels and wash clothes. I would highly recommend Mense if you are planning a trip to Amsterdam!

Mense is a great guy. Responsive to all emails/texts in arranging my stay. Very flexible and keen to help out guests e.g. picking up from the ferry and leaving luggage. The room is clean and comfortable - even with some nice touches such as mini fridge and tv.

The apartment was easy to find from the main station,we liked catching the ferry every day into town. It's a really comfy and cozy place to stay. I slept very well. The ferry is nearby (about 10 minutes walk) and it only takes you 5 minutes by ferry to get to Central Station.
