The Virginian Apartments
Hello travelers!
As of October 2011, I have taken over management of The Virginian for Daniel Gale, who started our Vacation Rentals 2.5 years ago. I hope you find me as detailed and friendly as previous guests have found him. I also work for Tom Douglas Restaurants so I can suggest many places in the city for your unique Seattle dining experience.
My goal is to make your stay as enjoyable as possible at The Virginian in Seattle.
A little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Boston/ Framingham Ma. and moved to Seattle in 1991 after serving in Operation Desert Storm. I've worked from Busser to Turbine Components Inspector and everything in between in my 44 yrs. l like sports, music, good food and wine and positive, open, honest people. I've also been told "I've got jokes"..... I hope that's a good thing :-). I know my past experiences will allow me to reply to your any requests in a timely and professional manner. Come stay with me in the literal HEART of Seattle!!!
For our purposes, the Virginian was just right. The location was ideal - a 5-minute walk from the Light Rail, 10-minute walk from either Pike Place or the Space Needle / EMP / Pacific Science Center, and a 25-minute walk from Queen Anne or Capitol Hill. Steve, our host, was extremely friendly and communicative and made check-in and check-out a breeze. The room is spare, and the mattress (at least on the double bed) isn't the greatest, but everything is clean and well maintained, and for... More »
February 2012The apartment was clean and comfortable. The location couldn't be better, especially for the price. Steve was very accommodating in getting me into the apartment and was available if I needed any further assistance. It made for a great first experience with AirBnB.
The unit was great. Steve also responded to all messages and requests super fast. We had planned on touring the city until 3pm check in time, but since I was not feeling too well after a shaky plane ride, we asked for an early check in, which Steve was able to do. That was greatly appreciated.
The building was easy to locate and close to the light rail from the airport. This is a good, central location so there were plenty of sights within walking distance. The apartment wasn't fancy but it did contain everything we needed and more. There was a double bed, twin bed and couch. TV with dvd, kitchen with utensils, and the bathroom had hot water. Free wi-fi! I'd definitely consider staying here again.
Bad weather canceled my trip at the last minute (I literally could not get into Seattle during the snowstorm) and Steve was quick to approve my refund.
Steve was super efficient and attentive. The apartment was simple in its appointment, but certainly above what I would expect for a room at that price. Great value for money! Wouldn't think twice about staying there again. Was stuck in the snowstorm for a few days, and the warm radiator and view out onto 4th Avenue kept my spirits up... My first trip to Seattle, but certainly not my last :)
The Virginian was in a perfect location for my needs while in Seattle and met all of my expectations. Very comfortable and accessible. Would definitely stay here again.
The Virginian is a fantastic place to stay at, not only for the comfortable room, but also for the location. Minutes away from Pike Place Market, The Seattle Center (Space Needle!), and also a short walk away from the downtown shopping center of Seattle. The food nearby is great as well, including the restaurant right next door, Assaggio Ristorante. They have the best rissotto ever! Thanks Steve for hosting The Virginian. We would love to come back in future Seattle trips.
Great location to camp out in Seattle. Walk everywhere. Charming old place with lots of natural light. Lots of yummy restaurants and Pike's Market close by. If you like Vietnamese food check out Long on 2nd and Stewart.
We stayed six nights. It was as close enough to call home. Steve was very helpful when it came the unique weather situation that was happening in Seattle. We would go back and stay again!
Awesome location, cute room, slept 5 of us just fine with an air mattress. The price is unbeatable and I would DEFINITELY stay here again! Steve was also awesome and a great host!
The location and the size of the room was perfect! Steve was nice, and there was no issue with checking in with him. Located downtown, it was a great deal, and within walking distance to many tourist hot spots. even in the snow! The room has a great retro feel to it. I would definitely stay here again.
Great place, centrally located, two minutes from Light Rail to airport. Room is cozy and has character. Steve was great -- everything was as described and he was there to buzz me in when I arrived in the evening.
I was in Seattle for the MLA! Best time! The place is located in the middle of downtown! Can't speak enough wonders about how awesome Steve is! It was a great experience and I will be back!!!
The accomodation is very central and Steve is a wonderful host who gives you every help he can provide. The only problems I had are that there is no TV (only DVD use is possible) and the place needs an upgrade. It is very cheap but for my taste it was a bit obsolete and also a bit dirty. Don't forget your ear plugs because the street traffic is quite loud. However, I would come again as the advantages weight more than the disadvantages!
Fantastic stay! Conveniently located for Downtown and Belltown. Short walk to Pike Place Market, convention center, and downtown sights. The apartment was quite large and very clean and check-in and check-out a breeze. Thanks!
This is a great place to stay if you want access to downtown Seattle ---- a major plus is that it is right next to many fabulous Tom Douglas restaurants like Lola. For the price, the room is a great deal. Check in and check out was a breeze, and Steve was gracious enough to allow us to store our baggage early. Overall, I would definitely stay here again! It was a "home" away from home.
This apartment is not the Ritz. Read the reviews, go in with an open mind, and you will stay at a very convenient downtown location for a great price.
The Virginian has a great central location and is reasonably priced for where you are. Restaurants and clubs abound! Parking is expensive and time consuming in Belltown, which you should allow for if you're driving. The atmosphere is younger and bohemian which I found pleasant, but by no means luxurious or posh. It reminded me of my first apartment after college albeit quiet and secure. The neighbors were all sweet and helpful. Steve was very accommodating and responsive to our requests which... More »
Wonderful location! We were able to walk to most of the places we wanted to go, and it was quiet at night. The bed was quite large, and we were able to leave our luggage in the office since we checked in early. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Steve!
This is the BEST and most affordable location to stay near downtown Seattle. It is located in a central location to bus routes, Pike Place, downtown, Belltown, restaurants, bars...basically everywhere! During the winter season, it was super cozy and warm. The heater was automatic and maintained a constant temperature. There was also free wi-fi, a kitchen with utensils, fridge, sofa, extra seating area, a coffee table and cable! The place was clean and decent. There was a closet with lots of... More »
The Virginian is in a really central location—just a few blocks to Pike Place Market, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Steve was really great and helpful with any questions we had. Would definitely stay again!
The Virginian is situated downtown, close to everything, which is a great plus. The furniture is a bit old, but ok. We enjoyed our stay in Seattle!
Most economical and convenient place to stay downtown. The perfect launching pad for a city adventure.
Location was excellent, right downtown only a few blocks away from Pike Place Market, deli/grocery store across the street, and within the free public transit area of Downtown. Room was very clean and included a number of cooking amenities (pots, dishes, some basic ingredients like oil and salt). Our only complaint was that this particular room was in a bit of a WiFi dead zone; we had trouble getting a reliable Internet connection.
I enjoyed my stay at The Virginian in Seattle. My host Steve S. was very available for questions and was very generous.

The host Steve is extremely responsive to any questions. The room was very close to where I needed to be in the city and I needed a quick, low cost place to sleep. That's all you get. I'm late 20th century city folk and had no clue how to turn on the radiator when I got to a freezing Seattle. Steve within minutes gave me instructions and it warmed up pretty rapidly... then clanked all night. It made the old building seem even more eerie. I guess old world rustic isn't my cup of tea.
Good value.
This place was great for what we needed. Like all the other reviews, this place is practical and was able to fit all of our needs. Although when we got to the place, we never got a chance to actually meet Steve, everything was in order. The place is quite old and you can hear people's conversations, the bedding could use a renovation a bit, and I'm not to sure if anyone else in the building is using the wifi because it was pretty bad. The wifi worked sometimes and we had to stand in the... More »
Third time I have stayed here. Obviously I like it. Steve is flexible and responsive too.
We enjoyed our stay at the Virginian. We arrived on Thanksgiving Day and I was worried about a holiday arrival but Steve was able to make it work. We followed advice given by previous guest about taking light rail from airport to Westlake Station - just had to walk a few blocks from there - $2.75 per person (taxi costs about $40+). My husband was attending bridge tournament at convention center - about a 10 min. walk. Though Ralph's Market is conveniently across the street, we also made... More »
Steve was very helpful. The apartment was comfortable but it definitely was not clean enough and the lighting was very poor - the lamps did not work! And were not fixed! Steve kindly loaned us his.
I was delighted with Steve from the first contact. I'm 70 years old and cannot manage both climbing stairs and carrying suitcases up them. It was Thanksgiving when I arrived and Steve kindly arranged, since he would not be there to help me, to leave a tip for a local cabbie who would (and one did) help me up with my bags. He was helpful about other things as well, coming to see why at first there was a wifi problem. He got that fixed too. Held my luggage on the last day until it was time... More »
Amaazing downtown location, enough space for 4 people and at a great cost.
Stayed once, stayed twice, will continue to stay every time I travel to Seattle. Simple flat and gets the job done. Tip: if you have a car, park behind the building. It's $18 overnite which is by far the cheapest in the area.
good place close to everything ;steve is a nice guy
We had a great time staying at the Virginian. The location can't be beat and checking in and out was a breeze. We're thrilled to have found this place and now consider it our home-away-from-home in Seattle.
Could have been cleaner. Pull out bed was not usable.
Amazing location in the center of downtown Seattle. My sister and I stayed at the Special Room #204 and stocked up the kitchen and saved so much money! This place is perfect for people who are on a tight budget and value a cool location over luxury. Our wireless did not work the entire week, but it wasn't a problem for us so we did not try and contact anyone to get it fixed. Would definitely stay there again.
Steve was incredibly helpful and the place was perfect! You really can't beat the location. We had a wonderful trip and a lovely stay at The Virginian.
Steve is a great host and his place is so central, in the middle of every thing! The apartment is very nice and I really felt like home! I know where to live if I'm going back to Seattle!
Really in the downtown area, easy check-in & check-out. At first it kinda look old & dirty, but it's just old ;) The bed is quite confortable. I would recommend for someone that wanna have a quik visit of seattle
The manager of the apartment is great! He handled everything professionally. We got in late and he didn't mind and when we needed to leave early he made arrangements.
Steve was great, even though I never met him. He left clear instructions and went out of his way to store my suitcase until my late flight. The room was good. Small, but just what I needed. The hot water takes ages to heat up, but it does get hot.
We live in Juneau, AK and were in Seattle for a medical visit to Virginia Mason. There was a bus stop a block away and the Public Market was nearby. Steve was a great host, letting us check our bags in early. He was readily available by cell phone for our questions. The room was perfect for us, with a nice window on the street, wireless was great, as was the cable TV. Thank you to Steve for being a perfect host.
I had a fantastic time at the Virginian! The place is right in the heart of downtown Seattle and for the price it's a real bargain. Even though the building is quite old it has character and the apartment is clean and has everything you need, big TV, fridge, comfy bed and plenty of storage. Yes, there is some noise from the street and sometimes you can hear the neighbours but it didn't really bother me. A big plus is that most attractions are very easy to reach, even if you haven't got... More »
The owner is fantastic, quick to respond to emails and accommodating. Though I never met Steve, I felt at home. The apartment is small, old but very clean. The one thing that I did not like was that there was smoking in the building and the internet was weak. For my purpose though, it was fine.
Centrally located, spacious, amazing for the price! Highly recommended!
Always a joy to be back at my little home-away-from-home in Seattle. The place looked like it had been updated a little since my last visit a year ago - the tv looked new! The room has it's quirks, but it's comfy and a great deal, and i still recommend it. Steve was super friendly and welcoming.
This studio was the perfect size and location for our one week stay in Seattle! Our Host-Steve: Great! Steve was great, he answered all of our questions in an extremely timely manner. Check-in/check-out was a breeze. We briefly met Steve on the way out, he was great, even offered us a late check-out and seemed to want to make sure that everyone had a good stay. Pros: Amenities: Towels are awesome, they don't have that chemically, stiff, scratchy hotel feel and they are the... More »
This is the perfect Seattle location if you want access to basically anything. It's right downtown; a couple blocks to Pike and also the light rail line. Great restaurants, bars and shops within in walking distance no matter the weather. We had complete privacy in the studio - we didn't even need to see Steve. He was up and buzzed us in at 1:00 AM when we arrived, so it was simple and smooth. We would definitely stay here again.
I loved this spot. Very convenient and great value. Steve communicated really well, the keys were where he said and I never saw him. I will definitely come back here!
I had a very pleasant stay at The Virginian. I was attending a conference at the Sheraton, and it was an easy walk to get there. The neighborhood is safe and has a lot of great eating and drinking nearby--see Top Pot Donuts, Icon Grille, and Lola, for a few.
The room was a VERY convenient location to see everything in downtown Seattle. Steve was a great host, very friendly and helpful--even with my friend's heavy luggage. The room was very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I would very highly recommend this room and the Virginian for any traveler to downtown Seattle!!
I attended a conference at the Convention center. The Virginian was walking distance to everything I needed. Sure there's nicer accommodation around town, but suite 209 was excellent value for money. Steve was very helpful and I appreciate the late checkout. I'd stay there again any day.
Prime location.
Really convenient place, nicely situated. Don't expect anything fancy but it's good enough that I was willing to stay longer. Thanks Steve!
Steve was great and very helpful and accommodating. The apartment was clean and actually quite spacious. I would definitely stay here again!
Steve was a great host. The rental was close to everything. A few blocks from Pike Place, the light rail, monorail and streetcar lines. The stay was excellent.
Had a wonderful stay in Seattle and the place was as advertised, quiet, clean, convenient. Steve was very friendly and helpful and went out of his way to make himself available. The small kitchen also saved me some money as I didn't have to eat out all the time. Next time I need a place in Seattle, I'll be back.
Really convenient place, nicely situated. Don't expect anything fancy but it's good enough that I was willing to stay longer. Thanks Steve!
Great place, exactly what I wanted. Fantastic location.
Steve was super accommodating when I arrived early and very helpful with information when I needed it. The room was just as I expected. Clean, comfortable, and spacious for one person. So glad I had a kitchen so I could bring home and heat up leftovers. The location is perfect for someone who will not be renting a car. It's centrally located, just a few blocks away from Pike Place Market , the waterfront, the monorail. it's also accessible to the buslines that run up and down to... More »
Great older building and unit. #209 is in the back corner so quite. Gave 4 stars rather than 5 because it is a bit funky (older carpets, squeaky floors, clinky radiators) but personally I enjoyed those elements of being in an older building.
The price is right, location great and the room was clean, we will be back!
Steve was great and was very accommodating. Awesome deal for the location! The apartment was definitely no-frills but perfect for the location (only a 5 minute walk to the Link light rail and 5 minutes to Pike's Place Market.) Everything was as described in the property description. The only drawback (for some people) may be the street noise, but that's what you get when you stay in the city. The apartment was small, but it was perfect for my girlfriend and me. The kitchen was small but... More »
My friends and I very much enjoyed our stay here. Steve was a great host and very accomodating. The location was wonderful and we were able to walk everywhere. Thanks, Steve!
It's a wonderful place only a few blocks from the light rail line. Close to everything downtown. The building is charming and the room has everything you could need. The only problem I can think of is that due to the nature of the building, it can be a little easy to hear the neighbors above the room moving around.
Cool retro room with lots of character (the building as well). Very comfy and had everything I needed. Location top notch. There is also a gourmet style grocery store (Ralph's) across the street that stays open late - very convenient. Caretaker Steve was very helpful. I enjoyed my stay here. The only negatives were a somewhat bizarre "earwax" odor in the apartment that you only notice when entering and what appeared to be a rather flimsy lock on the apartment door (could easily benopened... Steve was a great host who was very accommodating & responsive, and went out of his way to seek out and suggest things for me to do based on the experience I was looking for on my short trip to Seattle. The room is quaint, sans frills, but was exactly what I needed for my trip: a bed (2 actually, that can fit 3 people who don't mind being in close quarters), a kitchen, a bathroom/shower with amenities, free wi-fi, laundry, and a great view of 4th Ave. Having never been to Seattle before, I... This was a perfect place for a travelling business man like me. Smack central Seattle near Pikes. there is a parking garage next door which made it even more convenient. If your looking for a simple hotel/apt, this is the place to be. I'll be coming back! I'd also like to add that Steve was super fast at responding.
Steve was great, he even watched our bags since we came in so early and got the apartment ready two hours ahead of schedule. The Virginian is in the middle of everything, (and dangerously close to some of the best food) near bus and light rail stations and a 5 minute walk to everything else. Highlights of our stay included an unexpected entire day spent at EMP and biking up to Fremont for a day (Bicycle Pull Apart is three blocks from the Virginian, Eric and the boys are great!). Great location and great value!
My husband and I stay at the Virginian every time we visit Seattle if it is available. WE LOVE IT! It is in the heart of downtown Seattle close to everything to include transportation lines, Pikes Plaze, community grocery stores, all of the resteraunts you can imagine, etc. It is Seattle's greatest secret for travelers who want a local feel, cooking ammenities in their room and who love all things "vintage"! As other reviewers have stated there are some pros & cons about this place. P First off the pros: Location was key to the success of the vacation! Price. I did my homework and hotels in Seattle are $100+ Size. Super comfortable for a couple. Probably decent for 3 or 4. If you're willing to sacrifice comfort for cost with multiple people, it's an option. Contact with building management was super easy. And now the cons: (I'm trying to be mindful that some things are just out of the... More »
Steve Suarez was a very nice host. He was there as planned and was very helpful with the logistics. The location of the building is great; about 4-5 blocks from Pike Market, the waterfront, and many other downtown attractions are within walking distance. Within the same block there are 2-3 very nice restaurants. I would recommend this facility to my friends. Needless to say, I would come back.
This is a great deal considering the price and location, it's in the heart of the city just blocks from everything including some awesome places to eat.
Steve was a fantastic host! We loved the location, and the old building was unique and fun. Having a kitchen was great, though we ended up not using it. The complimentary wifi access was a huge plus. The only reason this was not rates 5 stars was due to conditions beyond the hosts control. The smoke from other apartments coming through he floors or walls was difficult to deal with.
Great location - easy to walk to attractions and rail lines. Clean. Quiet apartment building in a somewhat busy part of downtown. In October, though, the street noise isn't too bad. Watch out for Ralph's Deli. Great hours and quite expensive. Lola's hot toddy is very good. Great and quick communication from Steve.
Clean warm and friendly. A basic base to explore Seattle.
Perfect spot to stay! Everything is either walking distance or bus-able. Would stay here again!
The location of the place is great! We were close to everything. The room was comfortable and had a small kitchen, with stove and fridge. We didn't cook but it was nice to have the option. The place was quiet and clean. Would stay here again when we visit Seattle.
Exactly as described. This retro apartment is great value and centrally located. Steve was very flexible with respect to our check-in time. The whole experience was very smooth. Thanks!
Excellent Value! Great host. And you cant beet the location! Just know that this place has no frills except for working wifi. The bed was ok ... a little small and rickety. The water pressure was low ... but it was ok. No view ... but quiet. We will stay here again.
Great location. Walking distance to Pike Place Market, and a bit further, to Pioneer Square. A grocery/deli across the street is handy for food, and there are restaurants, as are a few restaurants and bakeries. The Seattle Cinerama around the corner is a great spot to catch an indie or vintage movie. The service-friendly Virginian staff is very responsive but unimposing. Accommodations are perfectly acceptable, though some might judge furnishings to stray a little far into the retro college... More »
I was attending a convention by the EMP and Northwest Room exhibit hall. Wish I could stay there for a few more days. Walking distance to everything. If you like old school apartments, this is it.
LOCATION!! This Belltown apartment is close to everything. I did not rent a car in Seattle but this apartment is walking distance from everything. Pike Market is very close, downtown is only a couple of blocks away where you can do all your shopping. It is very close to the 5th Street Theatre if you'd like to see a live performance. And for nightlife everything is also only a few blocks away. If you want to head to Seattle Center (Space Needle & Museums) there is a monorail that you can... More »
For us it was exactly what we need and want. Good location, good rates, clean. We do not need room service or maid service. Internet worked well. Management was helpful. I would stay there again. I hope they continue to offer this service.
What you read is what you get. No joke there. AMAZING location, no doubt about it. Less than a mile to most of the tourist-y locations. Possibly all? Plus, it's safe to walk around the block after nightfall. But don't go too far now. However, there is a reason why it's a special room - no cable nor basic channels. With that DVD player, go to RedBox at Kress market (bum central). Another thing - the bed sheets and blankets look raggedly but surprisingly they do NOT smell gross or... More »
We had a great time in Seattle staying at the Virginian! The apartment is as described by other reviewers; simple but a nice size, clean, and in a perfect location. It's 2 doors down from Lola restaurant and across the street from the Dalia bakery/lounge. The hot water pipes did make some loud banging noises the first night but my husband did something (turned the heater on maybe... More »
Great time. We had the pleasure of working with Daniel and it was exactly as described. Definitely no frills, but the price and location absolutely make up for it. I would definitely use this place for a future stay in Seattle.
Booked the Virginian 211 for a last minute weekend trip--a cozy place to stay with a unique vintage vibe. It is also conveniently located near restaurants, nightlife, public transportation, and most of the Seattle tourist spots.
Great place. The location was extremely convenient—easy to walk to everywhere we wanted to go. The kitchen was small but efficient. All correspondence was prompt and cordial.
The check in and the check out workded easy and without any problems. the location of the virgianian can't be better. the apartement was clean and spacious but a little bit run down. it was ok for our three nights stay.
Amaaaazing location! So close to everything, we walked everywhere. The neighbors above us were a little loud and kept odd hours but besides that the room itself was charming, minimal, and did the trick. I was pleased with my overall stay.
Good location but the place needs a little TLC.
We love staying at the Virginian. It's a wonderful building & great location downtown. You can walk to everything. Always our first choice when we visit Seattle.
Amazing location right in the heart of downtown Seattle. Within 10 minutes walking distance of both the public market and and the Seattle center (Space Needle, EMP). Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The perfect place to rest your head after a day of sightseeing.
Great location to visit Market, space needle, & shopping. Coffee shop &bakery immediately across the street with lots of dining nearby. Apartment small, but adequate for 2 visitors. Residence were not very interested in maintaining a clean apmt. Bldg, A's 1 resident discarded his garbage out of the 3rd floor window more than once. We certainly w/not be permanent residence.
Daniel was great! The apartment could not be in a better location for downtown exploration! The price is wonderful for the location. The room is just fine. As others have said, the room has not been renovated. It is a bit musty and the furniture is run down. I did not have a problem with anything except that the sofa and box springs (looking directly at it from the sofa) were both filthy. The mattress was not dirty looking however. The sheets have seen better days as they have rips and... More »
Daniel was a very hospitable host. The location was great - walking distance to major attractions. It was also 2 blocks from the Link train station (Westgate) making transportation to and from the Seatac airport a breeze ( and very reasonable at $2.75).
Went to Seattle to celebrate our third year anniversary and we had a great time. Daniel was very courteous and helpful. The place is historic and we enjoyed the experience. The only issue we had was the parking which it turned out to be $130+ for 5 days on the parking lot situated next to the Virginian. All of downtown Seattle is like this and is not a reflection of The Virginian.
Had a great stay here! Only complaint was the noise level in addition to some interesting smells in the building. Am sensitive to sound and smell, so perhaps not the best place for those like me! BUT, the place is very charming and perfectly spacious and clean. Can't beat the location-- central to everywhere you'd want to go in Seattle and walking distance from restaurants, bars, PIKES PLACE, and even an upscale corner market--key for us with an 18 mo old in need of certain things like... Great downtown location. Apartment is as described. This is an old apartment building and the apartment reflects that. Noisy tenants.
The room was exactly as described. You are not getting the RItz but you aren't paying for the Ritz either. What you do get is an apartment in a charming building run by a gracious host. The building is well located and walking distance to the Public Market, public transport and many restaurants and sights. You are on a busy street, so if you are a light sleeper bring a noise machine or buy one at the drug store on the next block for $12.00. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Daniel is a great host! He easied my fears of traveling to a big city by myself. The location was great so close to everything. I was able to walk every where easily. The building does kinda have a smokey smell to it but it's not bad. There were candels in my room and that helped a lot. I have a bad back so the bed wasn't to my standards but it was managable. I will be staying again my next time back to Seattle!
For location, The Virginian Apartments cannot be beaten - three blocks from Westlake station, a short walk to the Monorail and most of the shopping you could want all within a few minutes stroll. No. 209 was bigger than we expected and had all that we needed for a city break - clean, dry and comfortable. Daniel was very welcoming and informative before leaving us to our own devices, however I knew that if we had a problem he would be on site to deal with it - needless to say, we didn't need... More »

We arrived at the Virginian with our 2 year old daughter and its a great location in Belltown, close to everything (mall, space needle, short bus ride to zoo, etc). Great choice for short or longer stays in Seattle. The location is outstanding--near Pike Place Market as well as shopping downtown and easy bus access to u-district and capitol hill. Daniel is a perfect host as well; I definitely recommend staying here for value as well as comfort and convenience.
Great location and quite spacious. Very clean. All the essentials are there. A great deal,
Room 211 at the Virginian was a great find in a city of rather expensive lodging. The building is an old building - which means it comes with all the charms (and downfalls) of any old building. I loved the character of the building and the layout of the room was perfect for us. We stayed for three nights and had zero problems. The bed seemed strange at first (and is only a double) but was actually quite comfortable! Room 211 was perfect for privacy because it faces a little courtyard/ solid... More »

great place, best location ever!
My three friends and I had a great stay in The Virginian #209--comfortable, clean, and close to everything downtown. Daniel was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed and helped us find our way. I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Downtown Seattle!
GREAT location, right in the heart of downtown and walking distance to all the shops and Pike Place. We arrived at the Virginian earlier than expected, and Daniel had to rush to get the place cleaned up, but he was very friendly and apologetic about it. We didn't mind at all since I completely spaced out and didn't call ahead of time. He didn't make us feel like an inconvenience which I appreciated. The room itself is a perfect little studio apartment space. Glad our room didn't face the... More »
Love this place! The location is perfect. I was in Seattle for a conference at the Westin. While everyone else was paying big bucks for boring hotel rooms, I was just around the corner at a roomy apartment in a cool, eclectic restored building. And paying less than half the hotel price. The furniture and decor are old and quirky, but I loved it. You can save bills by making some meals in your apartment's kitchen. The Virginian is walkable to the needle, the market and all the... A friend and I just stayed at the Virginian Apts, #211, and it was great! The location was ideal, especially with all the Tom Douglas restaurants within a block :) And the apartment was even roomier than expected, just enough space for a few days in the city. The building also felt very secure and safe for two young women traveling. I will definitely try to stay here again next time I'm in Seattle, thanks Daniel!
The location was pretty central to where I was staying and the apartment was exactly as described. My flight arrived a little early and Daniel was more than willing to work with me on finding a time when I could move in. When he showed me the place, he had soap and shampoo for the guests as well as plenty of towels. The cable lineup was great too! The second floor is closer to outside noise than you might think, so if you are super sensitive to street noise and smoking, you may have the... More »
The location of the virginian is great, its simple accommodation in a nice old building.
Daniel was extremely responsive to all of my messages ---- particularly when I thought I might arrive later than scheduled on my check in day. You can't beat the location and at the end of the day that is the best part of the place. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. Why not 5 stars? Well, the smoking neighbor (the host can't control this) and the dirt on all the window blinds. If you are visiting Seattle you shouldn't spend much time in the apartment anyway - get outside!
We had an excellent time staying here. It is SUPER easy to get around from this location as it is in the smack dab in the middle of the downtown Seattle. Thanks Daniel for your easygoing and very kind hospitality! ~ Aydin Tip: If you are flying in and don't want to rent a car! Just take the Light Rail Train from Seattle airport and go to the last station and it is 3 blocks away from this location.
Convenient location, just a short stroll down the street to all the shopping and Pike Place Market! Daniel is also very helpful -- he stored our luggage while the apt was being clean so we could see Seattle baggage-free!
Our stay at the Virginian #211 was wonderful. Daniel was friendly and helpful both before and during our stay. You couldn't ask for a better location in downtown Seattle. The Virginian is close to shopping, restaurants and Pike Place Market. The building is charming. It is older, meaning the soundproofing is not great. But the suite was clean and comfortable. Daniel has done everything to make it a wonderful "home away from home". There is even free wifi! Next time we are in Seattle... More »
Daniel was a gracious host and the room was perfect for us. Location couldn't be better. I would stay here again and highly recommend Daniel.
Cute old-fashioned studio apartment in a convenient downtown location. I liked having a full kitchen with dishes and other thoughtful additions. However, the shower had no water pressure and didn't drain which made it unpleasant and nearly impossible to bathe. TV remote is broken. Walls are paper thin so you are at the mercy of the neighbors noise. Hallway smells like smoke. My experience was ok but I wouldn't stay again.
Daniel was a great host. You can tell the minute you meet him that he cares a lot about the building and your enjoyment of your stay in it. Basic cooking tools were available and we made a great meal from fresh produce purchased at the Pike Place Market. Daniel is also nice enough to loan you a movie from his vast collection if you're interested. It's an older building—which we like—but clean towels and plenty of space is provided. Daniel works hard to make sure that everything is just... More »
I loved it. the apartment was close to everything and the residents were friendly. I really enjoyed the fact that me and my girl friends were able to stay up late and have a good time without being bothered. Very affordable and cute.
My husband and I were super excited about our trip to Seattle, we had heard good things about Airbnb so we decided to give it a try! We were excited to find such an affordable place in a great location. Upon arriving, the place looked like a quaint old hotel. Daniel was great and left our keys for us so we could go ahead and let ourselves in. Once we opened the door to the apartment, we were a little shocked, it was not as nice as we had hoped. But we decided that it would be fine, it was... More »
Clean, private, great location. Lack of parking was only a small obstacle; we found a lot a block away. Would stay again.
Outstanding value for what it has to offer. The location is great, it has all the essential things we are looking for at a very low price. Daniel is very easy to communicate with. I will recommend this to anyone.
In the perfect location. We were in walking distance to all the main attractions, restaurants and shops. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but we found a parking garage on 3rd & Stewart that offered a weekly rate for $125. The parking garage was a block away and you could enter and exit as many times as you wanted daily for a flat weekly rate. We were extremely happy with our choice of Virginian #203 and would rent again...especially because the price can't be beat!
Couldn't have been easier. Clean room, just what we needed; no frills but location is superb - short walk to Pike St Market, which is where you'll eat every day anyway. Daniel both extremely helpful and courteously unobtrusive. We'd definitely stay again.
I'll make this short since there are many other reviews: PROS: Price, Location, super fast at responding to text messages. CONS: Faces a loud street, but tolerable. BRING ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. I would recommend this place if you are alone and need a place to crash. It is nothing fancy, but it got the job done. It cost me a whoppin' $2.75 to get from SeaTac Airport to The Virginian #202. I would recommend to bring your own sheets if you can.
fantastic location in downtown seattle. i was attending a conference at the bell harbour center, which was only a 10 minute walk away. my stay also coincided with the seattle seafair parade, which goes along 4th avenue directly in front of the virginian! it was really neat. daniel the apartment itself is very old, but the room is kept in excellent condition (aside from a curious stain on the blanket, which i didn't need anyways because of the nice weather). the shower knob labels hot as... The location of the Virginian studio apartment was excellent as it was just short blocks to the Monorail Station, one block from 3rd Street with its access to public transportation, close to some great restaurants, conveniently near a small gourmet grocery, and within walking distance of movie theaters and shopping. The studio offers a simple but roomier living space than most hotel rooms, plus providing a small but adequate kitchen - all of which is great when spending several days in one... More »
Daniel's space has incredible location and cosy feel to it. The building 206 has been carefully renovated and Daniel has taken care to make the rooms comfortable for the guest. We didn't need air-conditioning since the weather was terrific. Being close to Pike Market and some good Japanese restaurants was a big plus. There are ton of zipcars in the neighborhood and the place is in the downtown ride free zone (no fares for buses). The place is functional with comfortable bed, stocked... More »
The "Special Room" had a special rate because Daniel had not yet been able to really renovate it. The kitchen facilities were good but limited and the bathroom was dated. However, the beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. Daniel was very attentive and the place felt secure. It was wonderfully central to where we wanted to visit. We made use of the laundry and a nice little book exchange Daniel has made available.
love the location, right in the middle of it all - best of all, it's across the street from Dahlia Lounge and Bakery and a few doors down from Lola. Daniel was great and our stay was very pleasant.
A small cozy apartment just minutes walk to Pike Place, and lots of great bars and restaurants. Grocery store across the street. Great place for our first visit to Seattle. The Link took us from the airport to Westlake station which is only about 5-10 walk to the apartment. Check in was also simple. Thank you for a easy and comfortable stay!
It was my first experience trying AIRBNB after all the hype and I must say I am impressed. The Virginian is a nice convenient place in downtown and surely value for money. I walkable to all the major spots in downtown. The host Daniel is very friendly and even provided us an earlier checking. He also gave us tips on what to do in the city and was helpful. I will surely come back
Wonderful location, decent place, good value for money. Daniel is really nice and helpful.
This place is completely charming and extremely clean for a vintage building. The location is awesome, and it's great that there's access to things like a laundry room and kitchen, in case you were intending to stay for a while. Daniel was a great host - extremely friendly and accommodating. The only issues I had were with the water pressure in the shower (not surprising in a vintage building, and probably not a big deal for anyone who doesn't have long hair or shower daily), and the wifi... Great location in downtown Seattle area. Very clean and comfortable. We would definitely recommend again.
This is a very nicely maintained Vintage 1BR in the heart of Belltown. I needed a weekend get-a-way and this was ideal. Centrally located, working appliances and all the basics. The Host is very friendly, prompt and reliable. While the couch fits in the style-motif, it left something to be desired to sit on. It didn't really matter as I spent most time in the city, with this quiet refuge to return to often.
The Virginian is a great downtown Seattle location - easy to walk to lots of places: Seattle Center, movie theaters, shopping, Pike Place Market. Hotels in the same area are at least $150 per night. The space has a nice little kitchen, secure, quiet building. Couldn't have asked for anything better.
Great location! Easy walking or free bus access to most parts of the city. apartment was charming, comfortable and clean. Daniel was a great host and left us with free laundry detergent which was a nice added benefit with the coin operated machines in the building.
Our stay at the Virginian was great! This was our first airbnb experience and I was nervous but Daniel was very easy to work with, pleasant and accomodating. The apartment was in downtown Seattle and walking distance to Link Light Rail, Pike Place Market and many other attractions. I would definitely stay here again...Thanks Daniel!
Virginian is close to the center of Seattle and walking distance to most attractions. It is within the central free bus area so all transport is free. There are deli's, restaurants and food shops within a short walk. The building is old, but the accommodation is secure and tidy. Daniel is the best host and couldn't do enough for you.The WiFi was very patchy and slow, but Daniel told us he is having... More »
Daniel Gale does a good job as a host. Special room #204 faces the street and has a kitchen with utensils. If you want to empty your own trash go downstairs to the back of the building. There is also a laundry room downstairs. #204 would make a great student apartment and it's located near public transportation and just north of the business district. The shower only runs hot or cold. Building owner Ewing Stringfellow does not fund renovation or upkeep of his properties.
It's exactly how it is described in the site. Location is fantastic. Daniel was very helpful. The room was nice, clean and perfect for our family of 4. We stayed 4 days and it was great. We can definately come back.
After a two-day Amtrak train ride from Los Angeles to Seattle, we were very exhausted but also eager to explore the city when we arrived. We were very happy to find out that our place was conveniently located in the heart of the city. The location is perfect. We kept saying that to ourselves the whole trip. We had a great time. The place was excellent, very comfortable indeed. It's well located. The laundry facilities are good. Daniel was very helpful. I'd happily stay there again.
Daniel was great! Very helpful in allowing us an early check-in and lending us a map and suggestions for a fun day trip. The location was perfect. The The Virginian #202 faces a busy downtown street so expect a lot of traffic/truck noise. Short walk most downtown attractions. The building and room were a bit more "vintage" than expected with an odd smell in the hallways, but the room was clean. Having a kitchen and WiFi was also nice.
Keep in mind this isn't the Residence Inn; however, it easily met my expectations, the room was clean, the location was perfect for me, it was a few blocks to the Westlake Mall, Pike Place Market. There were great restaurants nearby and in walking distance to all the central downtown restaurants and shopping. There was a small supermarket on the corner and a great little bakery about two blocks away called the Cupcake. The building is an historic 1918 apartment building and very secure with... More »
Stayed in late June > early July. We snapped up this great deal offered by Daniel as we only had 5 nights in Seattle and wanted to cram as much in as possible in this short time. The place is in a great location with a short walk to Pike Place Markets and many, many shopping opportunities. If you plan on spending a great deal of time in your room, perhaps this isn't for you, however, if like us, you want a private place to crash out after a long day of walking, driving, sightseeing -... The room was bigger than I expected. It had a very large closet that we actually used as a nursery for our toddler which worked out great! The building was secure and you can not beat the location. Just a few blocks from everything...the market, tons of shopping, the monorail, the space needle and endless cafes and restaurants. For the price, I'd say it was pretty great. Had a wonderful stay and Daniel was attentive to our every need. Only 2 real issues, some spotty internet in our room, which was resolved by our host. and the noise from the street. The location of the Virginian can't be beat! It is right in the heart of downtown and very close to all of the shopping areas and local attractions. I walked to Pike's Place Market everyday. Daniel is a great host. He is easily accessible and very willing to help. I was unable to get onto the wifi while I was there and he came to troubleshoot with me. Great location, good price, nice to be able to cook for ourselves after a week on the road.
The virginian is a great place to stay in Seattle. Close to downtown, waterfront, pike place market, all the buses....All the time Daniel is ready to help you.
I have nothing bad to say about the Virginian. Daniel was great and really easy to get in contact with. The overall location was just perfect for me and my boyfriend...so close to downtown and everything that we wanted to see. We also loved that there was a little grocery store down the street from us so that we could grab some breakfast/lunch food. I would strongly recommend staying here if you can when in Seattle.
Daniel was a great host and the building was quiet with a good location. The building itself, however, is quite old, in need of maintenance. It's clear that there's recently been significant investment - the Clear cellular router, new carpeting, and small but well-equipped old kitchen have seen recent improvements - but you can't ignore the uneven floor from building settling, the drooping couch cushions, the and the creaking couch bed springs. Had a great time visiting Seattle. The Virginian is a great location and Daniel is a great host! We will be back!!
We really enjoyed staying in Room 204. It was so close to all the major Seattle sites, and it saved us a lot of money because we didn't need a car and very rarely needed public transportation. We were able to walk almost everywhere we wanted to go. The accomodations were comfortable and affordable. We would definitely stay again!
Great place to stay, excellent location! Nice Room. Although we didn't use the kitchen it had all the bits and pieces you need but don't buy when you're travelling eg. oil and salt, coffee etc. (I'm not sure if this was included or someone had just left it behind) The apartment was very clean. I would stay here again
Thank you Daniel for such a wonderful stay in Seattle. The location of the place was perfect as we were only a few short blocks from Pike Place and the Needle. We didn't even need a car as busses were everywhere. To find a place like this at the price that we got, I considered it to be one of my best bargains finds yet, not to mention all the amenities that came with it. Daniel was a nice host and very accomodating. We'll definitely look up the Virginians again next time we stop by Seattle.
The old hotel was very charming, it felt very grand walking inside. While the place was old and came with the expected quirks of an old place, overall it was very nice. And within walking distance of most major attractions downtown. Daniel was very friendly as well!
Daniel's Special room is just what you need on a stay to Seattle, it was clean, simple, and cozy! Plus you can't beat the awesome location and great price! I look forward to staying again when I pass through! Thanks again Daniel!
We first stayed in "Special Room #204" for 3 nights, and then switched to the larger and better appointed #209. Of course, in both cases, you get the same fantastic location, a few blocks from the heart of the city, easy access to everything else. But #209 is very spacious, with two rooms and a small kitchen, a comfortable couch, and pretty much all you need for a either a short or a longer stay. At a B&B you'd pay at least $40 or $50 more and though yo might get more "charm" -- furnishing... More »
Daniel was a wonderful host! We arrived way before check-in time, and he was kind enough to let us leave our luggage in his office so that we could explore the city a little. :) We also appreciated all of the helpful Seattle guides in the room, the comfort and maintenance of the room, and the GREAT location (we easily walked to both Pike Place and the Space Needle). Would DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable and welcoming place to stay in Seattle!
Daniel was very friendly and flexible in arranging to meet us at the apartment. The building is old, but very clean. The apartment is essentially a studio - double bed, table, TV, refrig in living/bedroom, and tiny kitchen (gas had to be turned on and off to use the stove). Only sitting area was on the bed or two chairs at the table. It was certainly workable -- convenient to Seattle Center, and a good deal price wise. Quiet room, nice host.
We didn't quite know what Daniel Gale meant by "Special Room #204", but we liked the price and the location. The truth is, we were a little apprehensive. What "special" means, it turns out, is that this is the one room in the Virginian that has not been renovated. In other words, it is pretty bare bones. and furniture and trimmings are well-used. But what you do get is a very reasonably sized room with a basic kitchen and a bed that may not be the most comfortable in the world, but is fine... More »

Loved it! Daniel was very responsive to emails and wonderfully helpful when I arrived. Like others have said, the location is fabulous! It's a lovely old building and I LOVED having a kitchen. The room is just as described. I stayed 3 nights alone then a friend joined me for the last 3 nights. Plenty comfortable for the two of us. Our time at the Virginian was even better than we expected! The building and place are charming (the photos do not do the suite justice!). The suite was very quiet, cozy and clean and tastefully decorated in a vintage style that matches the old school fixtures--loads of character. I enjoyed my stay in apartment 209. The apartment was clean and had great character, with the bedroom in particular being wonderfully cosy. I found the bed incredibly comfortable. The Virginian is great. Perfect location, a great space, and all for such a low price making it a really good deal. It's really nice to have a kitchen, we were able to make our breakfast and save a few bucks. Also, Daniel was really friendly and responsive when we had questions or requests.

We had a great week at the Virginian! The apartment was very clean! We just loved the old style!! Daniel was very nice! We'd love to go back again! Thank you!
Daniel was above and beyond helpful.
My stay at The Virginian more than met my needs, and provided an excellent base of operations from downtown to explore Seattle. I ended up arriving more than 14 hours late as a result of Amtrak delays, but nonetheless, Daniel Gale happily greeted me at nearly 1am and helped me settle in. Recommended for the short or medium term travel without pretension.
Daniel was a gracious and attentive host. Available for any questions I had, easy check in and check out, and handy with directions to some Seattle landmarks. Between Daniel and the location of this place, can't really beat it.
This cozy Seattle apartment was just what we needed. We felt as though we belonged to Seattle during our stay. The apartment stayed warm while we were in town during a cold snap. The location just a few blocks away from Westlake Center keeps you very close to the downtown hustle of Seattle. It is close to one of the main arteries for all public transportation. This old building is charming, from the moment you walk in you feel you've slipped back into the West coast of the late sixties or seventies...dark wood, thick dark carpets in the halls. My cousins and I had a wonderful stay in this apartment. True, it's definitely an older building and has a lot of quirks associated with it, such as noisy plumbing, creaky floors, and cabinet doors that take a little fiddling to open and close, for the price and location it was worth it. Not only was it close to Pike Place Market and Seattle Center, but was also very close to the Light Link Rail and to many buses that connect to Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, etc.
Daniel was very friendly and welcoming. When we arrived, he upgraded us to another room free of charge, because someone else had canceled. The Virginian is in a great location, close to Pike Place and public transportation. It was a great deal. The only thing we didn't like was that the building smelled a little like cigarette smoke.
Even with six people crammed in, the room was what were looking for. Great location and convenient.
We stayed in the Virginian #203 with 4 people and it was just about perfect for all our needs. The building is centrally located very near to the Westlake subway stop and was just a quick walk away to the conference center our group had to visit. The building and the room itself is extremely clean! The room has the added bonus of a small kitchen so for the price, it was an added bonus. The bathroom is pretty standard but FYI guests should bring their own toiletries such as soap/shampoo as the... More »
Wonderful place to stay in Seattle if you're looking for a more personal experience and to feel like a local. It was nice to have our own "home" for a week and not be disturbed by hotel staff or other hotel guests. The property was very quiet and neighbors were respectful. Fantastic location and Daniel was great at communicating with us before and during our stay.
The location is outstanding for downtown Seattle site-seeing. Pikes Place, the Art Museum, Ferry Terminal, and public transportation to the Stadium and taxi rides to other neighborhoods (Fremont) are around $10. Daniel was very helpful in accomodating our check-in time and I would absolutely recommend the apartment for location and privacy.
Perfect for our two day stint in Seattle. Clean, conveniently located, exactly what we needed. And a great deal, too!
Wonderful old but renovated building -- we enjoyed our stay. Location was perfect to sightsee. Seeing the monorail go by from our window was fun! Our host was there to meet us and was very accomodating.
The location of the Virginian is excellent, near shopping, good restaurants and not far from the train stop. The building is a bit old so the room is bit tired looking however it was clean, the bathroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen however had a definite odor and the microwave was a bit dirty, I opted not to use it. Overall, my stay was pleasant and of course the price was right!
The location was great: easy airport access and walking distance to great restaurants and great coffee shops, the pier and the market, and even the international district was a manageable walk away. The kitchen was fully stocked and there was an urban grocery on the corner. When I was there it was cold outside and toasty warm inside. Daniel was also a prompt and attentive host: I arrived at 10pm (no problem!) and I had to store my bags for a 10pm departure (no problem!).
Apartment was very well-equipped and clean. Daniel had heard there were connection issues with the internet, so he go ahead and put the router in the room, which was awesome. It also had a hard-wire connection, so I actually had 2 devices running off of it and it was fine. It was a little loud and bright at night since it was right on the street, but there's not much to be done about that. Great stay overall
My husband, my daughter and I completely enjoyed our stay at the Virginian. Daniel was great. The apartments are located downtown which made it a perfect place to enjoy all the sights of Seattle. The floors are a little squeaky, and the pull out bed is not the most comfortable - but the place was quite cozy otherwise.
Really enjoyed the old building and the friendly Mr Gale. Thanks
The Virginian is in a great location...right downtown and walking distance to Pike Market and the other attractions! The space is simple and clean.
Great location but the whole place is more worn and not as fresh as expected from the presentation. Unpleasant smell from the kitchen sink.
Location, location, location. This apartment is ideally situated among tourist sights, restaurants, bars, entertainment, bus lines, shopping...you name it, it's only a few blocks away at most. The apartment is located in an old building, and if you've only lived in relatively new construction, it will come as a shock to you. However, it has all the basics for your Seattle stay at a fraction of the price of nearby hotels. If you are a budget-conscious traveller, this is the place for you.
What a great little place! Could not get any better for walking around downtown. Parked the car for the weekend and did not touch it till we left. Room was GREAT for the price. Secure, retro-cool and authentic. Will recommend to friends and will be back. Mono rail is a block away and will take you directly to the needle or walk....only 8 blocks away! Top Pot coffee 2 blocks away! We parked our car at a garage for the weekend ($50)
Location, Location, Location. Although this place has it's quirks, thin windows, temperamental wireless internet and an old mattress- it would be hard to beat how awesomely located this place is in Seattle. Plus, the unit comes fully stocked with plates, cups, utensils and towels. Walking to Pike Market Place took just over 10 minutes. H&M and Nordstrom was just a few blocks away! And, it's really easy to hop on the Free Ride Zone line.
nice place, clean and Daniel was nice too, let me check in early.
Location perfect, parking easy, Clean tidy simple as advertised, great value would use again and have already recommended to others. Only hassel no internet access. Thanks Daniel for your pointers.
Our stay in the Virginian room #202 was great for our brief trip to Seattle. The location is fantastic and was centrally located for tourist attractions and public transit to explore different neighborhoods. The room is a bit rough around the edges, but for the price and location, it really cannot be beat. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and we enjoyed having our own kitchen that was well stocked and a comfortable sofa for lounging. Our only complaint was the faint smell of cigarette... More »
This was my first time using Airbnb and Daniel set the bar really high for future travels. He was able to answer my questions really quick and was able to accommodate my early arrival time. The apartment location was fantastic with walking distances to Pike's Market, the ferry building, metro stops, downtown, and my conference (which was the point of the travel). If you need any toiletries there is a Bed Bath and Beyond half a block away for your last minute needs and a grocery store half... More »
Myself and my girlfriend spent Sunday through Friday at the Virginian (#209). This was our first trip to Seattle. The Virginian is incredibly central, walking distance to Pike Place Market, the International district, the space needle and the trippy , trippy experience music museum. The place was spotless, warm and secure. The bed comfortable, the shower warm, the kitchen well equipped. Way better value and comfort than a hotel. the closet was bigger than my NYC kitchen. The couch was... More »
Couldn't imagine a better location to stay in when visiting Seattle, everything was super close. Daniel was very helpful during out stay and even allowed us to keep our baggage in the apartment after we had checked out so we didn't have to drag it around the city all day.
The location couldn't be beat and Daniel was a most gracious host. I had unknowingly reserved a smoking room and he was able to move us to an available non-smoking room....which was excellent. We walked most everywhere downtown and throughly enjoyed our first visit to Seattle. If we go back, we will most definitely be return guests.
Daniel was an exceptional host. He welcomed us an hour before usual check-in time and helped with our luggage. The apartment was lovely- completely private, had all necessary amentities, cable TV, wifi and was always heated. We instantly felt comfortable. It was also in a stellar location. Everything was walking distance including the market, great restaurants, nightlife and shopping. Daniel also offered free rentals of his personal movie collection. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to... More »
Dan was amazingly welcoming. The apartment was ready and all set up. There was everything to really feel like as home. I lived there for one month and it was very good to have such place to stay, very weel located down town Seattle. However, there is no parking provided and needed at the end to pay a monthly carpark close by, which very expensive and an extra cost not included in my first budget estimation. I went there in winter and the heater was.....way too efficient. It is a very old... More »

We really enjoyed our stay in the unit. Daniel was a great host and met us promptly and was easy to get in touch with both via this site and email. The unit was clean and has a very nice location, close to the Space Needle and all downtown attractions like restaurants and Pike's Market. Since we had a rental car on the trip, it was very convenient that there is a lot across the street and it was very cheap to park overnight in this city ($12). Overall this was a great value and cannot... More »
My first time using airbnb, so not sure how it compares to others, but overall my stay was great. Certainly worth the savings of paying for a hotel room.
The Virginian was something special. I've never experienced the staying in such authentic place, everything is old but in the sense of being filled with its own stories, the squeaking floors, the windows, the gas cooker. For Russians it could be best described as "meblirashka", the furnished apartment met in works of Chekhov, Andreyev, Bunin etc. The neighborhood is great - the very downtown of Seattle, 5 mins from the Needle and Pioneer square, a grocery and a movie theater are on the corner... We are both from Seattle and LOVED our stay at The Virginian. It is in a central location and super affordable. Daniel was friendly and very helpful. We will be back.
Had a great stay at the Virginian. Daniel is very friendly and even bumped us up to a slightly larger room. It's a great rate for a private room that had a full bathroom, kitchen, bed (a little spongy), and futon. Convenient location; recommended budget stay!
Fantastic! Super convenient location in Seattle, and Daniel really knows how what he is doing. Very accommodating. Thanks Daniel.
This place suited our needs perfectly: certainly right for the low price, and close to many sites we frequented (Pike Place Market and Seattle Center for example). The apartment fits three people well. I slept on the fold-down couch and it was comfortable. The wifi connectivity was a tad spotty, but absolutely no complaints outside of that. We had a great stay!
We spent a wonderful weekend in 202! It will remain a special place to me and will return in the future! Daniel was great and accommodating.
Great, great location! Walking distance to everything. The place is an old building and with that comes lots of noise. The pipes running through the building produce alot of heat and noise through out the night so if your a light sleeper this may affect you. Daniel was a great host, he checked us early and let us be on our way. The building is a smoking building so some of the units are not smoke free and it travels through out the building. Overall a great location with alot to offer.
We stayed in #203 for a week around New Years. I felt bad about arriving late (slightly after midnight) but Daniel was there to let us in and help us with the bags. The room was just what we were expecting, We did move the TV for our laptop. Wi-Fi was intermittent most of the stay but worked for the most part. Great location! there are buses with in a block in every direction and West Lake was a great place to use if you got lost. Top Pot Doughnuts (YUM!!!) are right behind the building.... More »
Pros: Close to everything Cons: Bed uncomfortable, bed sheet so old it ripped. Window constantly open to pass a cable to other units so it was cold. Asked for new pots and pans before arriving to the unit and they were offered to me 2 days before leaving, Internet is slow and Daniel proposed to boost the signal. I know signal can't just be boost like that, it's my job... C'mon! Overall experience: So so, would never go there again.
An excellent place to stay! What a fantastic deal.
Room was in convenient walking distance of everything in downtown Seattle. Daniel was helpful and well organized. A great first experience with Airbnb.
Everything about our stay at the Virginian was fantastic: Daniel, the room itself, the location - so great!! We spent Christmas in Seattle this year and were so pleased with our accommodations. Daniel makes you feel at home and is totally available to answer questions, lend a dvd, or tell you where you can buy a bottle of wine. The room was very cozy and warm, the bed was comfortable, and the view of the lighted trees outside our window made for a wonderful stay. If you are looking for the... More »
Daniel was very welcoming and friendly. My train had arrived 2 hours late but Daniel was very understanding. The room was very quant and had everything that I could possibly need. There is a huge whole foods just a 5 minute walk away which was really great. The only vaguely negative thing I could mention was I had to leave the hot water... More »
Daniel is very nice and friendly. He was very flexible with our check-in/check-out time. (We checked in at 1am and checked out at 1pm!) We were lucky to be upgraded to a larger room than we originally booked. Pros: Wonderful location & a variety of DVDs available. Cons: There were two things that I was a bit concerned with: parking & the "historical" building/room (squeaky floor/dark room/dirty sink).. overall, such a reasonable rate for its location!
This was a fantastic deal, seriously! The flat is all you would want, great price (65$ in late December), comfy, location: superb, kitchen: all you need. It literally made our visit in Seattle, which is as the locals say, pretty awesome. Definitely recommend it. Best Tamar and Baruch
It was awesome. Daniel was helpful. The location is close to bus stop and restaurants. It is cozy and charming. I high recommend it.
The Virginian was very cozy and enjoyable. Plus Daniel was very responsive to our needs while we were there. Lovely place to stay.
Daniel was a great host! He was very accommodating with our late arrival and was there to welcome us and get us settled..he even helped us with our luggage! The Virginian #209 was EXACTLY as described- great location and the space was perfect for our needs. My husband, 4 month old daughter, and I really enjoyed our stay in Seattle and would certainly stay at the Virginian again when we are back in town.
Great location. Great host. Great price. Thanks, Daniel!
Everything was fantastic. I couldn't get over the great location and how easy it was to get around from where we were. Daniel answered all my questions by email quickly and with expertise. The room was clean and he made sure we had everything we needed. Everything was laid out clearly from what was expected of us to what to expect from him. Daniel was very professional, thanks again
Daniel was a great host and I appreciated that he accommodated my late arrival (I got in a little past midnight). Although the place was older--I expected that and everything that comes with it before booking--the location was right in the heart of Belltown and the price was excellent. The room was perfect for my 2-night stay. Thanks Daniel!
Daniel was an excellent host, very helpful and informative. As many have said before, the apartment has an excellent location and really can't be beat. You will be within walking distance of most things in Downtown Seattle.
Great place to stay! Daniel was very nice and a great host! :) I loved staying in an actual apartment setting right in the heart of Seattle! The Virginian's furnishings were older but gave a sense of down to earth living that sometimes gets lost today and I loved that feeling. It was a very enjoyable stay and we walked everywhere bc everywhere is within walking distance even when it's freezing outside! :) Thanks Daniel!
Great location, easy going stay. Daniel was very helpful and kind. I'd definately stay here again. Pictures are accurate.
Daniel was a courteous and professional host. The studio was as described. Probably, not a vacation preference for me, but as a function of a business trip, It was adequate. Everything functioned as needed. Perhaps the old world charm in this instance, was not to my taste. I've been lived in old buildings in my youth. We two mommies were so truly thrilled with our experience staying at Daniel's place (room #209). It was everything we had hoped it would be -- quaint, comfortable, funky, and relaxing. Pros: - self-sufficiency - friendly host - convenience to everything - walkable to Whole Foods - ease of navigating that part of Seattle - proximity to Macrina's bakery Cons: - pots & pans need an update - had to leave. Didn't want to leave! - fancy shmancy hotels are going to go out of business at this rate. I would never stay at a hotel again if The Virginian were available to us. My husband and I just relocated to Seattle from NYC and stayed at the Virginian while we did some apartment and job hunting. The location is excellent, walkable to everything, and Daniel was very helpful. He suggested cheaper grocery shopping ( we stayed for about a week and didn't eat out every day) and also came by with fresh towels on a day mid-week when i was about to go do some washing myself. I would definitely recommend the Virginian to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay in a... More »
The location is perfect to visit Seattle in a very few days, and the place itself is not bad at all and remains a very good asset given its price. Daniel is very available and helpful so all together, I'd definitely recommend this place in Seattle
Nice apartment in a very good location! A great spot for exploring Seattle from.
Another (my 2nd) fun stay at the Virginian. As noted before, it's a bit creaky and frayed around the edges, but you can't beat the location, and the sense of having your own little home in Seattle for a few days. Daniel is always a pleasure to work with; responsive and helpful. I look forward to coming back again next year.
This was a great experience in a very cool apartment. We will be back and possibly be renting several apartments next year. My room mate is also thinking this would be a great place for she and her husband to stay while they are downtown. Daniel was great.
This was my first experience with airbnb and it couldn't have been better. The whole process was flawless and I've already recommended airbnb to several friends- a great idea, well done! The Virginian Vacation Rentals are another good idea, making a trip to down-town Seattle affordable, comfortable, and safe. We stayed for 2 nights in the Virginian #203. We couldn't have been happier with the location, the cleanliness and the historic building. We stay in Seattle at least once or twice a year and this price cannot be beat. The bed could be a little softer, but I would not hesitate to rebook with Daniel or to recommend the Virginian to any of my friends. Thanks again Daniel!
I enjoyed my time in room 202. Daniel was very accommodating and prompt. The interior finishes of the room show their age (however carpets and linens look and feel new), but it feels more lovingly worn in this older apartment building when seen in conjunction with the outside structure, marble-clad entry, and wooden details in the interior. Unbeatable for the price and location with the added luxury of a small furnished kitchen to enjoy food from nearby Pike Place Market at home. I did... More »
Had a great stay at the Virginian #209. A nice functional apartment in a great part of downtown area. Having a kitchen and market across the street was a real plus. We were able to take the modern, cheap Light Rail from the airport to within 4 blocks of the Virginian. It's walking distance to many wonderful restaurants and the main sights of the Downtown/Pike Market area. For us, another benefit was the easy walking distance to the Victoria Ferry departure and arrival dock. Dan met us upon... More »
Excellent area! Daniel was helpful and professional.
Daniel was outstanding! Check in was a breeze, and getting there from the airport was extremely easy via the light rail. The Virginian was located within easy walking distance from everything that I wanted to see, and the kitchen in #202 was well stocked with all sorts of cooking utensils. I would highly recommend staying at The Virginian, and if I ever get back out to Seattle it will be at the top of my list
We enjoyed staying at Daniel's place. We were upgraded to a larger apt (204?) upon our arrival since he had a cancellation. The apartment was super clean, new carpeting, the shower was hot, and the kitchen adequate. Sheets and comforter were clean and the towels were white (very clean & white, too!). We would definitely stay there again.
The room and furnitures are OK. The kitchen pots and pans are bad quality. Location is very center. Nice to have washer and dryer to use. The last night when the heater was on there ws a lots of loud noise, very scary.
I really like a place. It is in downtown Seattle. The room is so nice.
I recently stayed at The Virginian #202 for the weekend (2 nights). It's exactly as described in the posting and pictures. A bit dated, but that didn't bother me at all, everything was in fine condition. The walls are thin, could hear neighbors ustairs walking around...and more. A very very late review but a great stay at the Virginian! It's fantastic value for central Seattle and you can't beat being able to do a bit of cooking...
Daniel was very helpful and seemed like and all around nice guy. The apartment was in a great location. I would stay again for sure!
The place is great and Daniel was very friendly and helpful. He provided extra blankets and towels when we needed them. I would highly recommend staying here as it is close to everything that is Seattle.
Great location, clean and comfortable.
Stayed at the Virginian Inn for four nights. Overall experience was good, especially for the price. Anything nicer would likely be much more expensive. Good location to almost everything. Nice restaurants nearby. Easy to get to from Westlake transit center. It is an old building, so don't excect shiney new furnishings. Squeaky floors and little sound proofing can wake you up at night. The apartment is ideally situated in downtown Seattle near the waterfront and several attractions like the Seattle Center, the Pike Place Market, the public library etc. The access to others neighborhood is also easy by car and/or public transport. Daniel was very nice, the apartment is clean and confortable (#203). One thing we regret : the wifi access was not as good as we thought, it seems that the hotspot is shared between several apartments and the signal was extremely weak.
Daniel, our host, is a fantastic hospitality person. He is also a clean fanatic. The Virginian is an historic long term stay hotel adjacent to downtown and Pike's Place Market. The price for the apartment is not much more than the tax at the surrounding hotels. Next time we are in Seattle, we will stay at the Virginian - and with the money saved go the the many fine restaurants in the neighborhood. In addition, great bathroom, a kitchen, etc. Cheers to Daniel.
It was quiet enough and clean enough (for the most part: some of the pillows could use a good washing). It was also strangely comfortable to sleep in a Murphy bed. It's an interesting building. There was often the smell of cigarette smoke leaking in from the hallway, so if you have issues with that, take note. We blocked the gap at the bottom of the door and left the windows open (I'm sensitive to cigarette smoke). We were lucky with the weather. Overall, it was a good stay.
What an awesome oportunity. Daniel and the Virginian were awesome. Daniel was gracious enough to work with our schedule and gave us a wonderful rundown of the history of the Virginian. The accomodations were comfortable and I would love to stay here again. Thank you so much.
Daniel was very kind and welcoming during our stay at the Virginian. He was quick to respond to questions and greeted us at the front door. The room was clean, spacious and had everything necessary for our stay. The bed was a bit small and not overly comfortable and the room was pretty noisy (but this was due to the great downtown location). These things shouldn't bother anybody who is there to get out an about in Seattle and won't be spending much time in their room.
The place is as advertised. Great location as mentioned in most of the posts, very close to public transportation and good eats. Very close to Pike Place market. Very clean accommodations, all the necessities worked--shower, toilet, sink. TV had many channels, Wi-fi was not reliable, but we didn't spend much time inside in a great city like Seattle. The beds and bedding could be upgraded, but for the price, this is a great place to stay. Thanks Daniel.
We found our stay in the Virginian to be very enjoyable. Daniel let us into the apartment even though it was after 8pm on a weekend night which was very impressive. The apartment itself is very clean, vintage in feel but furnished with all the essential modern conveniences- the free broadband was fast and there was basic cable. I ve enjoyed a lot my stay in Seattle and one of the best points was the convenient location of the appartament. Some blocks to the Space needle, ten minutes to convention center and ten minutes to market place. It was great.
For location and price u can't go wrong. Very close to the heart of the city and walkable to everywhere u want to be. Public transport to and from the city is just a few blocks down the street. From Seattle airport the train service is excellent and cheap. Jump off at Westlake station and u r almost to the door of your accom. The room suited my needs, and the location was absolutely perfect for where I was going. It's super close to the Pike Market, and a 10min walk to the convention center downtown which was where I needed to go. I spent a little over a week, and I mastered the downtown area in no time. Had a great time. The Virginian was amazing. No trouble with parking and the location was great--you really are just a short walk from the heart of downtown.
This is a great find if you want to be in the middle of all the sightseeing in Seattle, easy walking distance to places like the Pike Place Market or the Space Needle, and tons of restuarants and coffee shops. Also, there is a nice little grocery store almost across the street that stays open till 3am, which we found to be very valuable since we didn't get in till nearly midnight and also had no car. Just came back from a great stay at the Virginian. There were 3 of us. We all slept fine on the bed and pull-out sofa. The floors are rather creaky throughout the building, so ear plugs might be recommended if you're a light sleeper. We stayed for three nights and the apartment was good. It's location is hard to beat and communication with Daniel went smoothly. You are about 3 blocks to the LINK system and just a 7-10 minute walk to Pike's Place Market and many other popular areas. The apartment is minimal, but what more could you ask for for $50?! Would stay again!! Thank you very much!
four outse five becau the location is great and the accommodations work...bed would be rough for more than a couple nights, unless you're still at the invincible age where nothing really hurts and you think it never will. Can't beat the location and for the price, very much worth it...a little noise, but you are near the action...go for it.
Staying at the Virginian was great. Daniel was a very courteous host. My plane was delayed and I didn't get in until 1:30am, but Daniel was ready for me with my keys. The apartment itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable. It's an old building so rather creaky, but nothing unexpected. Really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay in the Virginian again if I'm back in Seattle!
The room was great, a little musty but very clean. Perfect room if you want to stay in the heart of downtown and not pay an arm and a leg. Daniel was very nice and responsive. Note: checkout time is 11am.

Excellent safe area. Daniel was very friendly. The place was very simple and clean. The only room 4 improvement would be a new mattress for that particular room. Thanks again.
PROS: This place is pretty much what I expected, and overall, I was happy with the experience. Daniel was courteous (we arrived WAY early and he kindly let us put our bags in the room before it was even ready). He also has a sizable movie collection he will let you borrow from. It is not fancy, but neither is the price (accommodations can be pretty steep in Seattle). The location is perfect, within walking distance of almost everywhere I wanted to go. There are several good restaurants that... More »
I had a great experience staying at The Virginian. My thoughts echo many of those already shared by other reviewers: the buildng is a little old and creaky but that's what adds to the charm of the experience. The room was spotless and, although basic, was very comfortable. Daniel was great to deal with - very patient and responsive to phone calls/questions. The location is brilliant. I'm already thinking about my next trip! Thanks Daniel!
We stayed in #211 for four nights and although it wasn't perfect it was a great deal. Pros: Like everyone else has mentioned the location couldn't be better. For $80 per night there is no where else even close that could compare. The room was clean, the shower was hot, the place has 'character', TV had lots of channels and loved the tiny kitchen. Cons: The keys were a challenge - every time we came back we were never sure we would be able to get in - luckily we always did - but after a... More »
We were quite comfortable in #209 for the 2 nights we stayed in Seattle, including my 11-year-old on the sofabed. I think you can't tell from the photos: there's sliding doors to make the bedroom private if you choose. It was nice to have a full kitchen too, and at a price well below area hotels. The location is great! -- the only thing I'd do differently next time is to wait to rent a car until leaving Seattle. Parking is $25/night or more in the neighborhood, and public transportation... Our family enjoyed our stay at The Virginian. Check-in was a breeze and Daniel is an excellent host and communicator. He quickly responded to e-mail inquiries about the apartment and Seattle. We cannot say enough about the location! A quick walk to Seattle Center (we could see the Space Needle), the Monorail runs quietly by the apartment, a few blocks from Pike's Market, a bit farther to the Waterfront. Easy access to public transportation at the corner bus stop or to Westlake station... More »
Daniel was a wonderful host, awesome secretary when my bag was lost by the airline, and great source of local information when supplies were required due to lost bag after shopping hours, -Fred Myer was just the ticket. Location was great, hop on and off bus stop at the end of the block, Space Needle just down the road. Accommodation was delightfully spacious for the middle of the city and very comfortable. We will definitely think of staying with Daniel next time we visit Seattle. Many... More »
We thouroughly enjoyed our two night stay at the Virginian! Being close to all the tourist attractions + a grocery store was great for us as we had no car. Would recommend to a budget conscious traveller. Thanks Daniel
The Virginian shows her age well. She is worn and creaky. The furnishings in our unit definately fell into the 'retro' catagory, and the original windows allow every sound from the street to woft in to the room........and this was the most wonderfully charming place we could EVER have the privilage to stay! We spent two nights here; the first was the night of the SeaFair Torchlight Parade, where Daniel went out of his way to insure we had an unabstructed view if we chose not to watch from... More »
I really enjoyed my stay at the Virginian 209. The location was perfect, a few blocks walk from the Westlake light rail station in from the Airport, so never needed a car. Easy walk to Capitol Hill, Downtown, Pike Place and the sculpture garden on the coast. Nice grocery across the street is open late, Top Pot Doughnuts a block away. Daniel was complete and efficient with details arranging the stay and a late arrival time. Plenty of visitor info in the apartment as well. Bathroom was clean... More »
I highly advise consider less "downtown-ish" locations if you have a car. Parking could easily cost $20-30 per day+night. Doesn't make sense if you're looking for a budget lodging. Announced "Free Wi-Fi" didn't work at all, signal was very weak and even when connected the internet didn't work. We had to use nearby Ralph's Deli shop. There weren't a kettle to boil water for tea/coffee. There weren't an iron in the washing area. There was just one set of keys, not very... More »
Look, for $50/night we weren't expecting the Ritz, and we were more than pleased with the "special" studio room. A little old, but it had everything we needed and was actually a little larger than we had expected. Daniel was very accessible by phone to answer all our questions, and he helped us find a place to store our bags between check-out and our flight.
Good location from which to explore Seattle, Pike Market and all attractiosn wihtin walking distance. Daniel was helpful in providing directions and access and the apartment certainly was well priced. Good grocery store and cafes nearby. Unfortunately the "Murphy" bed was extremely uncomfortable for a mature age couple. No elevator in building - backache problems exacerbated hauling suitcases upstairs. Apartment building is old with associated musty smells. The apartment we had would... More »
Our stay "The Virginian" was wonderful! Daniel is really great to talk to and he makes it so easy to get settled in. The Virginian is in a Prime location, very clean and enjoyable! We loved it!!!! Thank you Daniel for a great stay!
I received prompt emails from Daniel prior to our arrival. I felt comfortable going to this apartment in a big, new town due to his considerate, kind communication. We arrived at the Virginian at 5 pm. We pushed the button to communicate with Daniel to gain entry, and got the feeling that he was occupied and in a bit of a hurry. Once in the apartment there was no coffee, but we felt uncomfortable interrupting him to find out if he had some we could borrow. We would have felt more... More »
We just finished a three night stay in #203 at the Virginian. I never met Daniel but he was easy to get a hold of by phone, easy to work with and everything was as advertised. The location is fantastic! It's in the heart of downtown Seattle in Belltown and is a short walk or bus ride to everything. My brother and I arrived by train and brought our bikes to get around but we still found it easy enough to walk to most places. There are numerous restaurants, cafe's and even small grocery... More »
Great location--everything went very smoothly, even though I didn't know our arrival time until I got there. I just called Daniel, and he gave me the code to get in. Parking only on the street, but we had no trouble finding parking--in fact, we parked in front of the apartment 3 of the 4 nights (the last night we were a block away). The apartment is basic--no cushy hotel mattresses or linens here. And it's a bit noisy. But--for the price, the location and space was... More »
David was helpful on securing the room and checking in. When we got there we got there we found the room dark, smelled bad, and the bed springs stuck up through the mattress. There was no mattress pad on the bed either. We left the next morning. David agreed to refund us for the other three nights we had reserved. It took two weeks to get a refund.
I had a great stay at the Virginian. Daniel was excellent to work with, and he was very flexible with my sudden change in plans when I had to check in a day later. I didn't get to meet him in person, but the check-in and check-out process was very streamlined and professional. The building is old but the room is clean and pretty cozy. Of course, you really can't beat the location. It's just a short walk to Pike's Place and the Space Needle. I had a great time, and wished I could've stayed... More »
We had a great visit to Seattle, and our stay at the Virginian was a big part of that! Daniel was very accomodating (even with our late arrival), gave us great directions via the train from the airport (and saved us $$ we would have spent on a cab!) and the room was just what we needed. Loved having a little kitchen, being close to the market, and being on our own timeline (not having to deal with hotel housekeeping during the day). We were able to take public transportation just about... More »
We enjoyed our first experience with airbnb and staying in one of Mr. Gales, vacation rental Apts. It was very relaxing, and much more comfortabe than a basic hotel rm. Very central to everything in downtown Seattle. Mr.Gale was very accomadating to our late arrival. We will look forword to our futures visit there again.
The location and price cannot be beat. The place was as advertised and everything was easy and straightforward. Great spot to easily be able to walk to main sights.
Room was perfect for two people (maybe even 3!). Daniel was great at answering his phone when we had any questions about the room. Great price, great location (near Pike Place Market, shopping areas), couldn't ask for more. Thanks Daniel!
My husband and I stayed in room 203. Here's the positives about our experience there: Daniel was very friendly and helpful. There were clean and soft towels in the bathroom, and the room itself was tidy. The location is great - very close walking distance to downtown, Pike's market, everything a tourist could want to see in a 2-3 day trip to Seattle. Also, the price is great for what you're getting. The downsides: The carpet badly needs to be replaced - it has all kinds of stains on it.... More »
Location location location is very best feature for the Virginian. Being a Seattle native, this is truly an almost perfect locale. Wonderful restaurants and shopping, Pike Place Market, movie theaters are all within close reach. It's an easy 3 block walk to catch the light rail to the airport; there are bus lines to go to the University, the Woodland Park Zoo, etc. Parking is priced within reason for a downtown metropolitan area. At almost 100 years old, the apartment (#209) itself is,... More »
Daniel was always prompt with communication and information. Our room was a studio with very small kitchen. When I saw the bed was a pull-out and very soft, I was a bit concerned, but it actually slept quite nicely. The rooms were old, but suited our needs. If you're looking for something top-of-the-line, don't stay here, but if you're looking for a place to sleep while visiting Seattle at a good price and can overlook a couple of carpet stains, etc. you'll be satisfied with this choice. ... Very fitting for our needs while we were in Seattle. The location is perfect as you can walk everywhere, and we found the studio had everything we needed. Fairly stripped down, but for $50 a night, does it matter? Good deal for sure.
AWESOME!!! The room was very comfy and the wifi was fast. We never met Daniel but didnt need to as he provided everything our stay required! SO CLOSE TO EVERYTHING!!! We plan on staying at the Virginian again!
Great stay, and also went to the trouble of helping mw with having to arrive a day early. Clean appartment in great location, perfect for our stay. Only comment I can make is the appartment was quite dark, not enough light to read at night, but perfect in every other way.
I am so pleased that we decided to stay at The Virginian. The location was perfect: close to transit, excellent dining, Pike Place Market, and Seattle Center. It was a perfect base from which to explore the city. The apartment itself was what you'd expect from an old apartment but perfectly serviceable. The only caveat I'd offer is that if a good bed is important to you or you're staying for more than a few nights, you might need to look elsewhere. It was fine for us but might be... More »
It was the perfect place for my stay in Seattle! I felt especially good when I saw that the other extremely pricey hotels were right next door, and the Gray Line airporter from Sea-Tac airport stops on the corner...couldn't be more convenient! Yes, the floor boards were a little creaky, and the pipes made some noise, but thats to be expected in a place as charming as this. Some... More »
This is a great place if you enjoy the hustle and bustle of downtown as I do. The room has character--it is in a vintage apartment building with a window onto busy 4th Avenue. Don't mistake this for a quiet suburban bedroom. You can walk a few blocks to everything happening downtown.
Daniel is a very gracious and helpful host. The location of the Virginian could not be better; it's within walking distance to Pike Place Market and to many night life destinations in Seattle. Other than that, the place is a wreck. Hallways smell of cigarette smoke, there was a drunk person hanging out by the stairs one night, the building is old with creaking floorboards, disgusting kitchen, and equally old and grimey bathroom. I have learned that we get what we pay for. If you don't really... More »
We had a great 3-day stay in #209. Daniel was accomodating with our arrival time and we found the unit to be a fantastic value for the location. Yes, this is an older building, but that is part of the charm ... creaking floors and loud pipes are part of the picture. We appreciated the secure building, very comfortable unit and well-stocked small kitchen. Just a few blocks from the Link light rail to the airport and lots of bus options. Again, great location! We would certainly stay here again!
We stayed in room 202 for 2 nights. Great location! Daniel was VERY accommodating and easy to communicate with. Did I say great location?? Worth every penny and I plan on making this the place I stay when visiting Seattle.
We had a great stay at the Virginian in May 2010. Daniel was very helpful and the apartment was clean and accommodated all five of us well enough!
The Virginian is a great place to stay. We stayed in the Special Room. I love the location of the Virginian. It was walking distance to a lot Seattle has to offer. Daniel is responsive and helpful. When I come back to Seattle, I'm definitely staying here again.
It was a pleasure staying at the Virginian # 211. Daniel was responsive and respectful. The room was modest and very well kept. The best part about the Virginian is that it is walking distance from transportation, grocery, cinema, etc. I know where I will be staying the next time I visit Seattle!
The place is old and quaint and clean and basic. Daniel is responsive and friendly. I'd definitely stay there again. Be aware that it's downtown, there's street noise and people noise. But that wasn't a big issue for us.
We spent 5 nights in #211 and very much enjoyed it. However, don't think you'll be staying in a 3 star hotel. It's a somewhat-disheveled studio apartment in an old building and there's noise from the street, the upstairs neighbor, and the pipes. That said, it's a great place to stay if a) the above doesn't bother you and b) you want to be in a great Belltown location. I'd definitely stay there again!
We stayed for two nights in the special room and it couldn't have been easier. The location is right downtown, the apartment is clean and comfortable and Daniel is very helpful and answers right back on emails. We had a great time in Seattle and I would always come back to the special room the next time. Enjoy your stay...
We stayed from 10-14 May. Initial contact thru both airbnb and Daniel was positive. We realize the location was central and convenient. Beyond that complete dismay - what a dump! An old unit certainly, but sadly lacking any charm. The constant hammering noise from hot water pipes, room overheating with the heater turned off, very hot pipes running floor to ceiling in several places (rather dangerous for families), inability to take a step without creaking the floorboards, a dirty kitchen and... We spent 2 nights in the Virginian #203. It was great! Close to everything, reasonable and safe. Daniel was most attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend it!
The room was just as we were hoping. Clean, quiet, and comfortable. It is a nice old walk-up building with a great location. We could go across the street to Dahlia bakery in the am for breakfast and then walk to Belltown for dinner. Daniel was easy to get ahold of and was very helpful.
Place/room was quaint and charming, and everything was well in order. Location was quite good, just a short walk to downtown places like Pike Place, shopping, busses etc. Perfect for an inexpensive stay in Seattle!
Had a great stay at The Virginian. The room is clean and Daniel has even provided clean towels, soap, and shampoo! The location is superb! It's very near to most of the tourist attractions and many good restaurants within 1-2 blocks away. I've tried The Palace, just behind the block of The Virginian. The food is good and it's closes at 1am everyday! You can even get a late breakfast starting at 10pm. I will definitely stay at the Virginian next time when I go to Seattle. Thanks Daniel!
Daniel was very helpful, accomodating and easy to work with. He came to meet us immediately when we had a question about the bedding arrangment - it was close to midnight! As with the other reviewers the location is easily the best in the city. The room and kitchenette was clean. The pipes/radiator were a bit noisy producing heat but kept the place cozy and warm. For the value and location, it can not be beat.
This was an exceptionally wonderful experience!
My wife and i had a great time in Seattle. Daniel's place was great. We have only good things to say. The pictures are perfect right on on what you get. It was great to have a full kitchen, standard size fridge/freezer at our disposal. The best thing was the great price and the awesome location. we rented a car for going whale watching, discovery park etc but if you plan on staying downtown, no car needed. everything is within walking distance. grocery/deli across the street as well... It was a way..... more than what I expected. Staying at an old apartment makes our vacation much more memorable. Daniel is definitely a special host. He upgrades our stays to a better room for two nights than when we ask for a coffee maker, he went out to get a brand new one for us. Definitely will recommend him to friends & family and will stay there again next time we come back to Seattle. By the way, the apartment location is perfect. Close by to mostly everything. I stayed at The Virginian for a week. Considering location, money for value, and services available, it will be very difficult to find a better place to stay in Seattle than The Virginian. Daniel, the manager of the property, was prompt, informative, professional, and kind person and made my booking and checking-in&out process easier than any other hotels I've stayed. I will recommend this place to my friends and family.
The Virginia is a tremendous find. The location cannot be beat and the parking garage next door made our arrival hassle free. Daniel was a pleasure to work with -- friendly, fun and efficient. The clanking radiator pipes took a little getting used to but added to the quirky charm of the beautiful old building. We never stay in traditional hotels and the Virginia was another reminder about why traveling this way is so much better. In addition to Dahlia's across the street, I highly recommend... More »
We stayed in room 203 and had a great stay. We never met Daniel, but he was easy to get a hold of and let us check in early for our stay. The Virginian is an old building but the location cannot be beat! We walked everywhere and loved it! Nice safe area. The only things that you should know about are that you will pay about $30 a night for parking (24 hours) and our room faced the street and was a little bit noisy. It was worth it for the great location though. Would definitely stay again!
Daniel was great and well prepared. As with the other reviewers the location is easily the best in the city. The room was spacious quirky, and yeah it's an old building so it's going to make some noise but for the value it can not be beat. Just make sure you read the hours for the (pricey) parking garages nearby. Definitely returning!
I recently stayed in #203 with a friend of mine and it was a great experience! Though I did not meet Daniel personally, he made it extremely easy to check in & out and was very friendly and gracious on the phone. The room itself is cozy, cute and comfortable and though we did not take advantage of it, Daniel's detailed list of DVD's was a really... More »
I recently stayed at the Virginian. It was a nice vintage apartment. It is a queit apartment building located downtown, near the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. Daniel is an excellent host, and I would definitely stay here again
The floor could be less squeaky, the neighborhood could be a little more quiet but the location and convenience were well worth it. I would suggest the Virginian to my friends and make a repeat visit myself.
#202 is a perfect location if you want to see seattle!the only down side is in the room the shower is useless but the bathtub is very nice.
Great room. Had a good time there but the floors squeaked. We would most definitely stay there again.
Our 12-night stay at The Virginian was great! As so many other reviewers have said, the location can't be beat. It was so easy to head to Pike Place Market every day to get fresh food for lunch, then walk to a park to eat it. And you can easily walk to the Space Needle, Pioneer Square, or catch a bus to anywhere you'd like to go in Seattle. We enjoyed staying at the Virginian in rooms 202 and 203. The rooms are both comfortable and filled with natural light from the west facing windows. As someone else said, Daniel was unobtrusive but easy to get a hold of. The price was fantastic. The so-called "smoking ok" room had not a trace of a smoke smell which was great! I'd stay again. Only problem was we had trouble getting hot water for the shower in room 202. After letting it run for a bit it heated up though.
The Virginian was wonderful! The murphy bed is comfy and the water from the shower was nice and hot. We loved the convenience of the location as it was so close to the mall, Pike Place, public transportation, etc. You can even walk to areas such as Pioneer Square and Capitol Hill if your feet can take it. We'd definitely stay again. Thanks, Daniel!
Place was very nice. Only downsides were that the pull out sofa was uncomfortable to sleep on and the radiators were noisy. But, for the price and local, it was great.
Daniel, you were an excellent host. The place was perfect, in a great location, and just as described. Thank you for your help getting to and from the airport. We had an excellent stay!
The location was ideal. The accomodations were charming. The pull out bed needs a new mattress. Overall we loved it and would stay at the Virginian again. Thanks.
Stayed in #202. The location was great, close to everything downtown and all transportation options. There is a grocery store and a nice bakery across the street which was nice to have so close. Daniel was a very good host, as someone else said, unobtrusive but easy to get a hold of. The size of the space was fine for two of us. We enjoyed our stay in 203. After we turned off the heat it was very comfortable. Nice shower and lots of fluffy towels. Daniel was a great host and most helpful. We would stay again next time we're in Seattle.
Location-wise this apartment is absolutely fabulous. It's close to everything you could possibly want -- great shops, restaurants, attractions, a movie theater and a grocery store. Daniel is a wonderful, unobtrusive host: he's there when you need him but otherwise leaves you to enjoy the place. It might be a good idea to leave some cleaning supplies in the bathroom; I would've liked to... More »
What a great place! Very conveniently located near many restaurants, shops, and transit lines. We were in town visiting friends, and based on our recommendations, Daniel's apartment will be their new go-to place for visitors from out of town. Next time we're in Seattle, we will definitely return to the Virginian.
Great apartment, great location. Within walking distance to all the downtown sights. We stayed in #211, perfect size for two of us and very clean. The only negative was the wifi signal was weak and intermittent, but with all the coffee shops around w/ free wifi, not really a big deal. Make sure to check out Dahlia Bakery right across the street -- breakfast sandwiches were awesome, wish we discovered them sooner!
Stayed in 209. Super location. Close to Light Rail, Bus Hub, Streetcar, Shopping, Pike Street Mkt, etc.,etc. Room was roomy, furniture a little eclectic. Bed was good. Excellent Restaurants within 2 blocks. All in all a VERY pleasant stay.
Daniel was really friendly and super helpful during our stay. And, he has a great movie collection!
For the most part, our stay was totally enjoyable! The apartment was older with charm and Daniel was a great host. The location was super! We were close to everything, not having to drive once the whole weekend. There is a really nice grocery store right across the street, which came in handy since we forgot a couple of things. Only a couple things that hold me back from giving rating it five stars. The radiators were horribly loud, keeping us up at night, the pullout couch is extremely... More »

Staying here was great! Daniel is really nice, the apartment was perfect for us. The sofa bed in 209 is comfy. Lots of towels, tea in the kitchen, tons of restaurants in the neighborhood, a nice home away from home.
Cons: The couch is bad. I mean, really bad. There is a bar that sticks out and it bruised my back, no joke. It needs to go for sure. Knives are tiny and in bad shape and it makes it really hard to cook. Would be great to have just one knife to use. Remote controls don't work (or work about 10% of the time), so get ready to sit by the TV to pick your show out. These are all little things though and shouldn't deter you from staying here. I stayed at The Virginian (room 203) from Jan 17 - Jan 20, 2010 and everything went well. Daniel was doing a very good job at hosting. He was glad to answer any questions and to help with anything you may need help with. I couldn't connect my laptop to the wi-fi and Daniel arrived to fix that problem for me 2 mins later after calling. He even lent me his hair dryer. :) Noise from the street wasn't a problem for me. Apartment 209. Overall a very good stay. When I go back to Seattle I definitely would stay there again. Pros: The apartment was clean and the kitchen while cramped was well equipped. The location was wonderful. The bed was comfortable. Daniel answered all email requests and met us right on time when we arrived. Cons: Parking is expensive. The hallways are shabby. There is a fair amount of street noise, but not from other apartments.
Staying at The Virginian was great. The location couldn't get any better - everything is just a short walk away, but it's not too close to be constantly noisy outside. My boyfriend and I (both 20) stayed here and we loved it, but I'm not sure that people who are any older than 45 or so would feel the same. Some of the other residents were kind of rowdy, playing music through the night. I actually loved that, but I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't like it as much. Anyway, we will... More »
Great location and price and charming old woodwork. Noise from the street was not too loud. The bed was alittle saggy in the middle and the sleeper alittle hard. All in all a good place to stay and I would return.
I stayed in #203 for a little over a week. I arrived late, at 12:45am, but that was not a problem for Daniel. In Seattle I attended a conference at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center which was just a 15 minute walk from the apartment. It was great to go ‘home’ after a long day of talks and posters and relax on the couch, drink some tea and watch TV. The studio has free wireless internet which was a requirement for me. This was an AWESOME place to stay. It wasn't flashy or anything, it was just what you needed to feel like a local. The location was brilliant and Daniel was truly sweet and amazing. I will definitely be staying here again, and again, and again.....
Way better than a hotel room! The building had such character...it felt like we were coming home. Daniel made us feel so welcome and his hospitality was 5 star as well. Centrally located (within walking distance) to many of Seattle's sights with an excellent bakery/restaurant right across the street. It comes with our highest recommendation. Thanks, Daniel! We can't wait to return.
Daniel was a perfect host, returning phone calls inmediatly and being very servicial. The appartment is comfortable, and in a great location. The only difficulty we encounter was the water, that pours in small quantities, and the main bed. Although the matress is ok, the bed under is one of those you sink in, so, best idea is to place the matttress on the flor. Otherwise, for the price you get, and the location, it is a recommended place.
The Virginian #211 was in a great location for all downtown Seattle attractions. Very easy to navigate around from here. Only critique about the stay was that the mattress was pretty uncomfortable. My husband and I are in our 50's and found the mattress and old springs (not boxsprings) to be a little too soft for our old backs. The other unfortunate issue with downtown is parking. This place is awesome. The price is just right for people who are on budjet and it is right on downtown! We could walk to pike place market, underground tour, aquarium and stuff. I am definately gonna stay here if I go back to Seattle. On top of everything, Daniel is so nice! :)
Excellent value. Beautiful, quaint, funky, cute historic building, within walking distance of great restaurants, the public market and public transportation, including new light rail from airport. Daniel, as many others have noted, is the most incredibly attentive and pleasant host. We would definitely stay here again. One small quibble was that Wifi signal so weak it basically didn't work. Maybe that could be improved in future?
Great place! Tons of space and a beautiful neighborhood. Daniel was also great, very friendly and available. We will definitely stay here again.
flawles.. we will be back again in a few months
This is the 3rd time We have stayed here and, as always is just perfect
We enjoyed our stay in downtown Seattle. Perfect location, very cozy and clean, and priced so we could afford it. Daniel will help with logistics and any questions you might have. We hope to return to Seattle and would certainly choose The Virginian again.
The place was clean and cozy. The location was great too. This place made a great romantic get away in city for us.
I couldn't say a bad thing about our trip if I tried. The location was exellent and for the money the room it self was quite nice. Daniel took good care of us and was very accommodating.
My friend and I spent 9 amazing days in #203, Daniel was incredibly welcoming and makes himself readily available. In the end we found it very hard to leave our cozy little studio and Seattle, it felt like we were a little part of the city. As a previous reviewer stated, the photos don't do it justice. Plus you are near everything, Pike Place is just a short walk away, Dahlia Bakery is literally steps from your door, as well as Ralph's Grocery which is pretty convenient if you plan to cook in... Daniel is a great host. He is very welcoming and accommodating. My weekend didn't go as I had planned, but the room and the service was perfect. He even took the time to help me with my laptop until I was able to access the WiFi. To be able to stay in that location for the price made my stay even better. The room was cozy and felt like home. I will definitely be staying at the Virginian in the future!
Daniel was a friendly host. The apartment tastefully furnished in mid-century modern style; the photos don't do the place justice. Our only complaints: parking; in-and-out Internet (I think the router in our room may have been broken); occasional odd haunted house noises (the place is circa 1920, and it creaks at night); and a downward curve in the center of the pullout sofa, which could make it awkward for two people to sleep on it. Other than this though, we really enjoyed our stay... More »
One, as in #1. NOT 1 out of 5. We had a delightful stay, the place was just right funky cool for us although if you aren't used to radiators you might think the Virginian is haunted. The location is perfect and Daniel will share his knowledge of the area, his expertise on the local cuisine, all of which is top drawer, and even his personal DVD collection. The price is definitely right. Thanks Daniel...corky and kristin.
We stayed four nights in room 209 and had a wonderful time. The location for the price is outstanding. We enjoyed walking around Belltown and down to Pike Place. We stayed at The Virginian with another couple and had plenty of room. Daniel was great and always accomadating. Thanks for an awesome stay.
the location was great, price was amazing -- but more importantly, the host was perfect! daniel was so welcoming and accomodating. we called him the night before and he gave us tips on how best to get to the apt. saved us some $$ right there! the apt was close to so many great attractions -- walking distance to pike place market, all the little cafes/restaurants in belltown, short monorail ride to space needle and the explore music project! it was overall a great experience. the rain tried to... The Virginian was exactly as we expected and as the reviews below detail. It is walking distance to Pike Place market and plenty of other areas in downtown. The new Link rail stop is only about 5 minutes walk and is very smooth (about 40 minutes from Seattle airport to Westlake stop). We were very happy with our rooms at the Virginian. They were very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed two separate, two night stays. We stayed in #202 which was very nice and exactly what we were looking for. We... More »
This is the first time we booked and stayed in a place via AirBnB. Daniel was a great host and the location was of course excellent. The only complaint we have would be there seemed to be smoke (cigarette) coming down the hall in the morning, but this might be something beyond the management's control.
Daniel met us at the door at 10 pm - our flight came in late - and made us feel immediately at home. We were in 203...chose the Virginian because they have murphy beds. My wife is a murphy bed scholar - wrote a dang thesis on the things - and ours was fantastic. Fresh towels, he got the stove working after a brief "gas off" delay, was very forthcoming about the radiator not working perfectly and had supplemented the room with a electric space heater...all of that was fine with us! The... More »
We loved our 4-day stay at the Virginian. Daniel was extremely responsive to all of my pre-trip questions. Location is perfect - we didn't have a car and didn't need one. We had what appeared to be a problem with the gas coming into our unit. When I called Daniel about this, he was very helpful and attentive to the problem. Thanks, Daniel - we'll be back!
Our second stay at the Virginian yet again met and exceeded our expectations. #209 was very comfortable with four people, and a spacious room. (The pullout's pretty comfortable too!) Belltown is a great neighborhood to stroll around, and it's a pleasant walk to and from the stadiums in south downtown. Thanks Daniel!
The Virginian is located in a great spot, walking distance to Pike Place Market, Capitol Hill, the Sculpture Park and tons of great restaurants etc. The rooms are very clean & cozy (especially 211) and Daniel is a great host. Everything we needed was in our rooms waiting and Daniel was very generous with his time and suggestions on places to go/etc. For the price I highly recommend it!
The apartment was clean, pleasant, spacious, and basic. Just how I like it. It's located in a decent neighborhood that's convenient to the rest of downtown. Daniel was friendly and quite helpful. Altogether I thought it was a good deal.
We had a lovely time in #202. The place is very basic, but clean and provides everything we needed. Daniel is very sweet and helpful - we were very well taken care of. Thank you!
Located in the Heart of Downtown We belive this is The Best kept secret in Seattle! Extremely clean and confortable & cozy . Daniel is great host ! 5 Stars all the way .
I stayed at The Virginian throughout the week in #202 and #203. I cannot express how wonderful the location is. As noted already, right around the corner, you'll find some of the best places to eat (thank you, Tom Douglas). In addition to that, it's not very far from a grocery store that's open until 2am. Plus, it's a short walk from 'The Market' (Pike Place Market). Daniel was very warm and helpful and was also VERY accommodating. I'm a deep sleeper, so the street noise wasn't a bother... More »
Everything was very good. Daniel was responsive, accommodating to our requests and very friendly. Room was nice and clean and location was excellent. Will defo stay next time we are in Seattle.
Daniel was a terrific host! The location of the Virginian is absolutely perfect; it is across the street from a terrific bakery, around the corner from the best pizza I've ever eaten, and an easy walk from Pike Place Market. Thank you so much, Daniel!
Enjoyed our stay - Five people, #203 and #209. Lots of room. A bit of noise from the heating system and the streets outside, but nothing intolerable. Bring earplugs if in doubt. Good central location. Daniel is friendly, welcoming and helpful. Will stay there again. Thanks.
Daniel was the most gracious and accommodating host. His apartments are right in the heart of Seattle and the room was very charming, homey and CLEAN. We'll definitely stay here again.
Hello Travel Planners, we just got back from our stay in Seattle and have to give Daniel a 5 star rating. We give the location a 5 star rating, the cleanliness a 5 star rating. Our only gripes were personal and I will share them only to inform future guests. We stayed in room 203 and the mattress dipped towards the middle. Also, the downtown noise was really loud. My husband and I are used to quiet sleeping so this made the nights really long. I kept checking to see if the window was open. We... More »

The Virginian is truly a vintage experience in the heart of downtown Seattle. We had a charming stay with all our basic comforts provided for.Daniel is very accommodating and does everything to make your stay memorable. This was our first visit to Seattle and we can almost guarantee another stay soon enough. It makes better than any hotel visit and gives you a warm sensation of being secure at home.
Greetings from the MIdwest! I was in charge of setting up the stay and travel for 11 of us coming from 5 states... ranging from 25 to 89 years old! Daniel was fabulous taking care of everything and helping with any questions and more. helped us figure out best ways to travel and even a good delivery pizza!. This place was absolutely fantastic. It was homie, intimate, and downright cute. Daniel was probably the best host anyone could ask for, and the price was a great deal! Right in the heart of Seattle, and I am defintiely staying here next time I visit! Muchos thank yous to Daniel and the Virginian! Alex
The building is beautiful, great location and privacy. Totally undisturbed for the entire stay -- it was just like living in your own apartment. Unbeatable price. Street parking was always easy to find, though parking overnight requires getting back to the car by 8am. (Overnight secured parking in the garage across the street is $25.) I won't even bother looking anywhere else next time I need to stay in Seattle... this was exactly right.
Daniel is a great host and his place is perfect 10. The place is very clean and the location is close to shopping malls. Thanks Daniel!
We stayed at the Virginian #202 and had a great time. The place was perfect, a great deal for the price. Daniel was very accommodating and made the process a breeze. Highly recommend it to anyone who's on a budget or just looking for something new! Great location just minutes walk from everything downtown Seattle has to offer with easy access to the myriad forms of public transportation available.
My partner and I had a great stay at the Virginian. The room was a great deal for the price and the location was perfect. Thank you Daniel for the breakfast recommendation, those were the most amazing pancakes! We will be coming back!
all-around great experience. First of all, I should mention that I was a little wary when I first booked our reservation sight-unseen, and almost canceled for fear of spoiling a vacation by winding up in a scary and possibly dangerous dirty flea-bag apartment building. Rather than bailing, Daniel agreed to meet with a local Seattle friend of mine and to show him the building and the room. My friend was very impressed with both Daniel and the lodging arrangement, and gave a very reassuring... More »
Daniel helped me find a nearby bike rental place and tipped me off about nearby connection on the new (cheap!) light rail link to SEATAC. Great location, and the unit was clean and larger than I expected.
I had an excellent stay in Seattle. The room had everything I needed so that I had my own home away from home during my visit. Daniel was extremely pleasant, greeting me in person on my first night there. The location is ideal, centrally located in the city but within a good neighborhood. I highly suggest the Virginian to anyone looking at one of their listings.
Way nicer than described, at an astoundingly low price. The place is very centrally located, and while small (think large dorm room), has all the comforts of home -- a kitchenette, very large walk-in closet, comfy seating, and wi-fi. It was the perfect base camp for us to explore Seattle, and we loved how close we were to everything, including transit. Daniel even graciously handled a special request. We had to think hard to come up with negative things to say, to try to provide balance; the... More »
I don't know what I can say that hasn't been said in the other great reviews. The ideal location, friendly and accommodating host, and clean room made our stay excellent. Highly recommended and will stay there again.
I have to echo the reviews of past guests - everything was as advertised, Daniel was very friendly and helpful in all dealings. Great location - close to the market, stadiums, and there's a great little grocery store across the street thats open late. I will stay again the next time I'm in Seattle! Thx Daniel!
Daniel was very quick to respond to messages and was very helpful. The best part of the Virginian is the location. Its in the middle of downtown and within walking distance or a short taxi ride to the spots in downtown Seattle. The room itself was better than expected. We arrived to a clean room with towels, soap, etc. Highly recommended! Thanks Daniel!
We had a very nice stay at the Virginian. The apt.was clean, comfortable and met most of our needs- except for a hairdryer-but no big deal. There was a laundry room and Daniel provided detergent. We were able to get food at the market to cook or go out to eat at any of the restaurants on each corner owned by iron chef Tom Douglas. It was in a great location- very close to Pikes market, we walked everywhere! We also rented a car (found an enterprise in walking distance) for a few days and had... More »
Great! The room was great for the price, and the building is full of old charm. I've paid a lot more for a lot worse at other hotels. :-) Daniel was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back.
Well to say the least Daniel was the best. He is the reason for such a high rating. He had great info for restaurants, night life etc. He is quick to return your phone calls, if he is unable answer the call to begin with. The room was in a great location. All walking distance to everything or a very short cab ride away. The room was tidy and had great character. Its definitely not the Hilton but for the price its worth it. I don't know what more to say than, ditto! Daniel, and the Virginian (even the residents) were, as everyone else has stated, wonderful! I am slightly skeptical of reviews, but the nail has been hit on the head here. They are right on, as are Daniel's descriptions of the rooms. Thank you Daniel!
We stayed in #203 it was clean, comfortable, and convenient and the location of this building cannot be beat! We were able to walk to all the sites right from our front door. Daniel is such a thoughtful host not only is he personable and extremely knowledgeable of his city, he leaves a little basket containing laundry detergent, a first aid kit and playing cards in the room. Our bed was comfortable, so was our couch, and our closet was huge. Daniel provided tons of clean white towels, hotel... More »
Great location. We walked to all of the popular sites. The room was freshly painted and clean. The historical architecture was fun. In the future, we will definitely keep The Virginian in mind.
First off, Daniel was extremely nice and helpful and that made the whole reservation worth it. The apartment itself was very cool and cozy. It's in a really beautiful, old building and it was close to all the Seattle tourist attractions (while being set on a quiet street and giving you a feeling of actually living there -- instead of feeling like a tourist). Very close to public transportation as well. I will definitely stay there again when I go to Seattle!
We stayed in #209 - great little place. VERY central - we walked everywhere all weekend, and Daniel was super accommodating - he was there to meet us at 8pm, and let us leave our bags for a few hours before our flight. There is some noise in the room - old building with normal old building creaks and rattles, but earplugs worked a charm for us. Clean, bright, and well worth the cost.
Dan was incredibly gracious. I was in a bind coming into Seattle, he booked me in last second. The room was great. Thanks Dan!
Very nice location. Very friendly host. Had an awesome time walking around downtown Seattle. Close to the market, Thai and Mexican food and many bars and pubs. My wife and I had an excellent stay at the Virginian. Thanks Daniel.
We stayed in room #110 for the Bumbershoot music festival and it was perfect! Close to the festival, late night grocery store across the street, and Daniel was great. There were 3 of us and he even set up another bed, a totally unexpected treat.
I stayed in the Virginian for four days to attend PAX. It was a 15-minute walk from the convention center - very convenient! Daniel was very friendly and helped me settle in. The place itself is just right, the apartment is old but clean and comfortable. It's a no-frills place, but if you can take care of yourself (and you probably can) it's perfect for travelers.
Hello! We stayed in room 203 for Pax/Bumbershoot 2009 and were very happy. Location was amazing and Daniel was super friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay again.
Myself and 3 friends stayed in #209 for Pax 09 and it was great! It's a comfy place, not far from the convention center and close to so many great places to eat. Thanks Daniel.
What a fabulous host!!! The apartment was very cozy and cumffy. Walking distance to Pikes Market as well as in the free zone for public transit to hop on and head to Pioneer Square. Tons of restaurants, jazz clubs.. I will definitely be back!
My stay at the Virginian was fanTASTIC!! Daniel was a great host!! He was very informative and even had a list of Dvds available from his own personal collection! The room was clean and very comfortable - complete with a kitchen! The location was walking distance to the Pike market, space needle and so many other places. Also - I was going to call a cab to the airport but Daniel told me where to catch the train which was only 3 blocks from the Virginian. Thanks Daniel! You saved me 30 bucks!
I am so glad I came across the Virginian. What a great location and what a great price! Thanks!
My husband and I stayed in #211 for a few nights recently. The Virginian really does offer great value and location, and Daniel is a courteous and efficient host. Obviously someone has thought carefully about rehabbing the building, choosing pleasant color schemes, nice-quality bedding, etc. Our suggestions: (1) Carpet the floors, even if it's just indoor/outdoor stuff. The bare wood makes the whole studio feel unfinished and cold. (2) Install a good reading light over or nearer the bed.... More »
Our stay at the Virginian was superb on many levels. The location is incredible: smack in the middle of everything downtown & also close to trains, light rail, and buses. Daniel was incredible -- just like all the other reviews say. He's very friendly and welcoming. We couldn't have asked for more. As for the Virginian, the old building is gracious, with lovely woodwork and some details that show a bit of age, but it is well maintained nonetheless. This is not a luxury hotel, but... More »
Highly Recommended! Would do it again in a heartbeat, can't touch the location and price!
Went to Seattle for a weekend to do some sight-seeing. Hotels were expensive, but SO glad to find this place! Daniel was awesome, his service was first-class! I highly recommend staying here! Centrally located downtown, it was a breeze to walk anywhere! As an extra bonus, only a few blocks from the light-rail. Thanks again Daniel!
Our family had a wonderful week-long stay at #209 in late August. As everyone had commented Daniel is a wonderful and hospitable host; very helpful with all all of our questions. The apartment is old but adequate, and the location is the best!! It is a great place to unwind or regroup after a day of walking and exploring Seattle. We will definitely return when we visit Seattle again. Thanks! The Shang family, Ithaca, NY
The Virginian was a great location for exploring downtown Seattle. Daniel had lots of recommendations for restaurants and shopping. We got an amaing deal for the room as we booked it on very short notice. I would say the room was better suited for a couple, as our two teens found the pull out couch a bit squishy. We also found we could hear the street sounds quite easily, so ear plugs may be in order unless you are a sound sleeper. But given the price and location, it was an excellent option... More »

With its central proximity to Seattle's downtown/Pike Place/Pioneer Square, #110 is a great launchpad for a weekend in Seattle. Although the accommodations were a little sparse, it's the perfect place for students, young couples and backpackers.
Friendly, comfortable, superbly-located, simple... in short, I can't speak highly enough of what Daniel's doing with the Virginian and how pleasant our stay was. Make your Seattle stay as enjoyable as possible with lodging in the Virginian.
Daniel is AWESOME!!! 2 weeks before my trip, a different host was forced to cancel my condo reservation due to water damage. Daniel to the rescue! Not only was he somehow able to accommodate my family, he went the extra mile on everything. The rooms were great, the location is perfect, and Daniel made himself available to assist us with our every need, from extra towels to restaurant reviews. When I return to Seattle, I will stay at The Virginian, period.
We had a great stay at the Virginian. Thank You Daniel for your insights and help. In all a great place to stay while in Seattle, so central and affordable. The MacDonald family.
This apt. building was just a few blocks away from Pikes Place Market, movie theatres, shopping malls, a good variety of restaurants and bars. There was even a lil grocery store across the street on the corner that stayed open till 2 am. I thought that was pretty cool. 4 star -- great find! Thank you so much, Daniel, for making our stay in Seattle superb. The apartment was clean & quiet and we really appreciated the little extra touches (like the mini 1st aid kit and the candles) as well as the movie loan. We'll be back! Deena & John Calgary, Canada
Excellent location, wonderful and accommodating host who has a wealth of information about Seattle. Daniel efficiently coordinated our mid-stay room change. The rooms (202 and 203) are certainly not spacious, but no worse than a (much more expensive) hotel room would be and definitely sufficient for our needs - and we had three small children with us!
Awesome stay!! Great location and we had everything we needed!! Don't hesitate to stay here!!
It's great place. You cannot find better room than this one. Great location, great price and great manager Daniel! I really enjoy the staying.
This place is great. Makes the stay in a new town feel familiar. Close to everything. No need to get a car to see the city with the public transportation just steps away. Cant say enough about it. Will recamend to everyone I know.
Clean! Comfortable! Friendly! We were delighted with our stay at the Virginian! It was much like our own (actual) apartment in Boston, complete with: suberb location, abundant jolly noise from the street at night through the open windows (nothing a pair of earplugs can't address), thrifted decor, quirky plumbing, a well-appointed kitchen, and a "landlord" who was attentive and accessible but totally unobtrusive (Daniel was a peach about waiting for us as we got stuck in rush hour traffic,... Daniel was a very nice guy - he stayed awake until 3am to give me the key to the room I was staying in because my flight was delayed. The apartment was clean, and the towels and sheets smelled like vanilla fabric softener. There was a small kitchen with silverware, dishes and cooking supplies which were also very clean. Overall, I thought it was a good value for you money. Pros: central to everything, safe location, and quiet at night, ammenities. Cons: no air condioning (yes it was the hottest day on record) which made sleeping impossible and the carpet needs to be updated. Overall, I would stay there again.
I already spread this awesome find to everyone and even friends live in Seattle. Some motels lie about their locations saying near Downtown, and I can't find better place than the Virginian. It's actually in Downtown area with affordable price and neat accommodation in an old charm of the building. Daniel was such a welcoming and flexible manager. Definitely I'd look forward to coming back. Thank you for offering this great deal!
We highly recommend The Virginian. We stayed in rooms #202 and #203, which was perfectly coordinated by Daniel to transition from one room to another. It's the best location to be able to walk to the hippest eateries and the other attractions of the city. The rooms are clean and Daniel was a great host to accomodate our late arrival. Thank you and we'll be back again.

great building and host!central location walking to everything! I would definately stay here again!
Daniel is such a great host/manager. He answeres his phone responds to inquiries promply and clearly, meets you at the door with a smile and is the example of hospitality. All this just to spend the day in the city and have a room for the night which was clean, comfortable and a fun getaway.
This is seriously in the heart of downtown. I was surprised at how close it is to the Space Needle and Pike's Market. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in downtown. Daniel also has a collection of movies he lends out during your stay which is a nice touch.
Our stay at the Virginian was hassle free and comfortable! The room was stocked with clean towels and toiletries. Our room (#108) was not fancy, but we definitely feel we got our money's worth for our stay. The room is also centrally located, making it easy to walk to most of our destinations. Recommended!
Daniel kindly upgraded me when the room I asked for was not available on short notice, even though on a holiday weekend I'm sure he could have booked it for full price. Thanks! The place was clean, but the bed was awful! Very saggy and springy - I think it was as vintage as the furniture. From a sanitation standpoint, kitchen sponges should not be shared by guests, and there needs to be liners in the trash cans. Dishes are handwashed, which makes sanitation a little sketchy, as you are... More »

I could not have asked for a better stay. Daniel was extremely friendly and helpful. Clean rooms in a wonderful old architecture building in the heart of Seattle close to Pike Market, city center, and a bustling jazz community. Fantastic place to stay of the Highest reccomendation
Great Area thats near downtown. I was amazed on how big the place is for the price. The place was clean and towels were soft. I'd definety stay there again.
Daniel was accommodating and kind. The room was nice conveniently located. Sheets, towels and room were clean. For the value there is no reason not to stay here. My folks are visiting the area in the fall and I will recommend they stay at the Virginian.
We loved out little Seattle apartment. The location was incredible and Daniel was extremely helpful from the moment I arrived; very knowledgeable on where to go for everything. Our studio was very roomy, was clean, and supplied with fresh towels and even dishes for a home cooked meal. I plan to recommend this apartment rental to all my friends and family - or even use it myself next time I am in town. Cheers
The Virginian is a good stay for folks traveling to downtown Seattle. As an alternative to hotels and as a piece of Seattle's rich historical experience.
Home away from home experience. Daniel arranged and took care of everything beautifully, really made you feel welcomed. The building was classic with a modern remodel. Perfect location, right where you need to be. Wish i could have stayed longer. Highly recommended!
We could not have asked for a better stay. Daniel was extremely kind and helpful. The location was great, and it was within walking distance to many places downtown. The room was clean, and comfortable. All in all, it was very pleasant stay!
Excellent location - close to the market and lots of great places to eat. Having the entire apartment definitely enhances your stay - you feel more at home than in a hotel. I was in the unfurnished apartment, but Daniel provided everything I needed - I would absolutely go back.
Our 5 night stay at Daniel's place was just perfect. It's a really cosy apartment, nicely and modern decorated, the building is in the absolute center of Seattle, Daniel is a great host. An absolute top stay in Seattle. We would and will recommend it to all our friends!!!
It was really nice. We all enjoyed the building and Daniel's helpfulness. All around, it was a good deal and a good time.
